As the title says. Give or take 10% either way. Looking for a really nice new luxury bag and in need of suggestions.

That said, you have a point that 1.5k is sort of bag limbo. I might be tempted to set it aside as a bag fund and add a bit more to it.

I might do that too. Or perhaps I might buy two bags, one Aspinal (I love the small Lottie) and either a Coach or DeMellier.

But I also have a hankering for the Gucci Ophidia tote.

FigAndOlive · 19/03/2024 11:25

Any Gucci Marmont is very comfy to wear and very resistant to wear and tear. I also love LV marmont for everyday wear and the canvas is veeeery resistant. It's above your budget but you can easily find pre-loved ones in very good condition!

LondonTraveller · 19/03/2024 11:27

I'd suggest Saint Laurent as a brand for a price point of £1.5k to £2k. I have a few bags and they're well constructed, have a classic look and wear well.

Someone suggested the LouLou but it's such a soft lamb skin leather I don't think it will wear as well as the others. The structured leather bags such as Sunset, Solferino or sac de jour are great.

PersephonePomegranate23 · 19/03/2024 11:33

Agree it's not a large budget for a luxury bag. I'd go with an Aspinall, Coach, Kate Spade kind of budget and put the rest towards something else.

£75 on something from FatFace and donate the rest to people in need, for whom that money will make a real difference to their lives.

Oh bore off.

I've got a loulou and it's had some right hammer! 😂 I take it everywhere

It's tougher than it looks

I’d buy a vintage Celine which I would hopefully get for under the limit.

bunnybunnybunnybunny · 19/03/2024 12:36

A Loewe Flamenco bag, every single time. That said, I'd not say no to a vintage/early 2000s Bottega Veneta intrecciato hobo.

jay55 · 19/03/2024 12:45

The Gucci tote shopping bag. It's ridiculous a price for the fabric and I usually hate big logos and the colour is impractical. But I keep eyeing it.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 19/03/2024 12:51

What an interesting and lovely thread.

I think the best idea is yes meet your husband for lunch, and I had already felt the budget could be tweaked :) before the op said it.

Will you come back and let us see what you buy ?

Lavenderandbrown · 19/03/2024 12:57

Louis Vuitton south bank. I know MN doesn’t favor LV but it is the perfect crossbody. It’s large enough for everyday and yet small enough for sightseeing/ traveling/walking about. I need phone sunglasses reading glasses wallet tissues lipstick and keys at a minimum and it holds it all without bulking yet has petite proportions suitable to my frame. And my shoulder ache went away when I switched to cross body. As pp mentioned “I think they are fake” I don’t care if others think it’s fake I know it’s not and it’s for my enjoyment not others acknowledgement. And I like brown. I do see it’s no longer available from store but many on resale.

@LovelyTheresa I chose that price really because I thought people might suggest more expensive ones to be honest. I have a larger budget than the £1,500.

If you have some flex in your budget, how about https://www.bulgari.com/en-gb/bags-and-accessories/womens/bags/shoulder-bags/serpenti-forever-east-west-shoulder-bag-calf-leather-green-292103

I would hop on a train to Bicester and go to the Loewe and Ferragamo shops (because they’re my favourites). As a present to myself on completion of my protracted divorce that’s what I did, though sadly the Loewe bag I’d been lusting over was sold out, and I ended up with a beautiful Ferragamo instead. Five years on and it still looks good.

As an aside, I used to do quite a bit of work in France. My agent supplied many of the French fashion houses, and always said the only handbag he would buy (if money was no object) was Hermès. He’d signed confidentiality agreements with them all, so couldn’t go into details, but the gist of his argument was that you want a company that specialises in leather work, such as Hermès, Loewe and Ferragamo, if you want top quality.

Toteme t lock. Just bought one and think I might get the other size too

Back in 2008 I lusted after the Stam by Marc Jacobs but as a broke 20 something there was no way I could afford one. A couple of weeks ago I noticed Marc Jacobs are reissuing the Stam (at circa £1500!) so I had a look at the 2nd hand market and found a pretty perfect 2008 edition for £200. Might be worth shopping 2nd hand to catch a bargain?

Oohh I absolutely love this and now I want it😥

ThisAmberFawn · 19/03/2024 13:53

All these suggested bags look gorgeous, but personally I could never justify purchasing a bag that is in the 1k price range

But I do hope you find a lovely bag x

krustykittens · 19/03/2024 14:18

I recently spent 4K on a pony, who comes with ongoing maintenance costs. If only I had spent £1500 on a bag that wouldn't cost me even more every year, I would be the richer for it. But that's what makes me happy. I also donate to charity and pay a pretty decent sum in tax every year. But I have this funny notion that the money I work for should also make me happy.

I have no advice to give you OP, because my pony addiction makes me impoverished in all other areas, but some of these bags are just gorgeous, so enjoy! I would be a total fashionista if I wasn't covered in mud all day long!

Seconded, get yourself to Bicester and aside from the likes of Chanel, you can browse numerous designers with discounts. Even if you don't end up buying one, it's a lovely day out and will help you pinpoint which brands you're drawn to. I have a few bags and they're all from either a designer outlet or the airport. Makes your money go further.

Thedogsdindins · 19/03/2024 14:29

Who needs a bag worth that much money? Surely you could get a £30 bag that would do just a good a job of holding stuff.

I'm guessing that the retailer of such an expensive bag is laughing all the way to the bank!
