As the title says. Give or take 10% either way. Looking for a really nice new luxury bag and in need of suggestions.

Good question @BritneyBookClubPresident ! On the smaller side. Possibly cross body.

@Optimistic66 those are beautiful!

Gucci Padlock bags can be nice.

Dior saddle bag and Prada Hobo remakes are classic, I think some of them you can get in this range.

Have a look at Jacquemus also.

if you want many bags in one place try Cocoon.Club, they sell slightly used bags with a discount also so you may get more for your money.

Thank you @BlueLimeRun 😊 I didn't feel the need to mention it but I am fortunate to already have a holiday to Orlando booked for the summer and I own a couple of LV bags already! Plus, I shop regularly in my local charity shops and donate. My husband had an unexpected bonus and work and has insisted I treat myself with it, so why not 😊.

@whitenoisemachine enjoy your holiday and your bags and don’t feel you have to explain yourself 😊

whitenoisemachine · 19/03/2024 09:39

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll have a good look at the recommendations above 😊.

Didn't realise bags were such a point of conflict on mumsnet, especially with the point raised that no one suggested donating the vast majority of a wedding dress fund to charity!

It wasn't intended to be a post in any way bragging. I genuinely wanted recommendations as it's a lot to spend on a bag and don't wish to make the "wrong" purchase. I'll report back when I've made a decision and bag is on the way!

Do you have any local artists you can support? You may just be able to nab both a matching bag and wallet (or other accessory). Just thinking for something a little different a little unique. Enjoy that bag. Who says you can't spend that much on a bag and not donate to charity. MN is just a snippet of one's lives.

MariaVT65 · 19/03/2024 09:44

i am definitely on the wrong thread. Just realised the suggestion i posted is a man’s bag 😂. Just goes to show my practical style!

Have a great holiday in Orlando op! That’s my favourite place to go! Nice of your husband as well. My DH just got a bonus and has treated me to zero!

StarsByThePocketful · 19/03/2024 09:56

🤣🤣🤣 Bag for life and donate the rest to charity. MN is bonkers.

Now seriously, treat yourself and enjoy your new bag. The Gucci one upthread is gorgeous. I’ve sent the link to my DH as a little hint. 😁

GettingStuffed · 19/03/2024 10:01

I'd replace the Kipling bag I left on a train and spend the other £1400 on some really nice clothes.

Newgolddream70 · 19/03/2024 10:02

I like the Mulberry Pimlico satchel. And you'd have a bit of change left over 😊

You absolutely don’t need to justify yourself here, op. Ignore the detractors and enjoy choosing and using your bag.

For your budget I’d recommend a Gucci Marmont. The ‘small’ is surprisingly spacious. Different styles and colours to choose from but I’d say the black or cream are pretty timeless. Gucci has excellent customer service from their stores in comparison to other brands so if you’d like to feel a sense of occasion when spending this sum of money, I’d highly recommend The Sloane street branch in particular. Remember, if you are going abroad from a major airport such as Heathrow you can order in the one you fancy into an airside branch and save the VAT. You don’t have to take it with you, you can collect on your return.

I have this bag and would agree it's great! The size is big enough for your typical everyday things. I usually have my phone, keys, small purse and a brush in there alongside smaller bits and bobs like hand cream, pen, painkillers etc. It's not big enough or soft enough to be a "chuck everything in willy nilly" bag, but not so small or rigid that it's hard to get things out of.

The leather is nice and firm so it holds its shape really well and stands up to being treated a bit carelessly (I have a toddler who often plays with it, or it's swinging on my shoulder when getting him in and out the car etc)

whitenoisemachine · 19/03/2024 10:11

@ClonedSquare @Netaporter that one was on my shortlist!

Not a cross body but I love this one www.gucci.com/uk/en_gb/pr/women/handbags/shoulder-bags-for-women/gg-marmont-small-shoulder-bag-p-443497DTDIT1000 I'm just not sure which would be more practical.

DH works right near to Sloane Street so perhaps I'll meet him for lunch. All my other lux purchases have been online so it'd be nice to have a browse in store.

I come on these threads specifically to read the holy posts.

BTW I'm a Mulberry fan, I know its a bit marmite on MN. I did also quite like the LV twistlock (I think its called) but I think that's a bit over budget.

DrJoanAllenby · 19/03/2024 10:11

It's an odd price point.

I'd be looking at a secondhand Prada Galleria. You can get one in a lovely colour for summer and the bag is easy to carry and practical to use.

£500 bag £1k holiday!

Their budget is their budget. They probably have enough for a holiday. Some people have more money than others, and 1.5k for a bag isn't anywhere near ridiculous in the luxury market.

also a lovely choice! Allow enough time when you visit the store. They offer drinks nowadays which is nice. They also spent a lot of time like Rowan Atkinson in Love actually wrapping it all up 😂

I think that £1500 is a weird price point in the luxury bag market.
As insane as it is most high end brands eg Loewe, Bottega, Celine, Chanel, LV etc start at £2000 so £1500 will at best get a either a tiny nano sized bag or something that is basically overpriced for a small canvas / fabric bag.
Outside of the high end brands there is currently a big market for affordable luxury with brands making good quality bags in the £400-£600 range- such as Polene, Strathberry, De Millier, and personally I would look at these.

However two brands that could work are YSL and Ferragamo, and if I were to stick to the "rules" of your question would go for one of these:

www.net-a-porter.com/en-gb/shop/product/saint-laurent/bags/cross-body/lou-medium-quilted-leather-shoulder-bag/1647597321587277

www.net-a-porter.com/en-gb/shop/product/ferragamo/bags/cross-body/hug-small-embellished-textured-leather-shoulder-bag/1647597324970096

That said, you have a point that 1.5k is sort of bag limbo. I might be tempted to set it aside as a bag fund and add a bit more to it.

ClonedSquare · 19/03/2024 10:19

Aside from the Gucci marmont, I'd probably be looking at Mulberry for that price range. A lot of people don't like it as much anymore, but I think they still have some gorgeous pieces.

I used to have a Lily and really regret selling it! It was a nice leather that held its shape but was also soft enough that you could push the limits of what you fit in it.

I also have my eye on the small Bayswater satchel. Again, I had one and sold it and really regret it. It has a shoulder strap and fits in everything that you could need for a day, including things like sunglasses. I bought an Alexa as my "carrying more than the essentials" bag and it's just way too big compared the Bayswater satchel.

whitenoisemachine · 19/03/2024 10:22

@LovelyTheresa I chose that price really because I thought people might suggest more expensive ones to be honest. I have a larger budget than the £1,500.

Another nice bag! I personally prefer the camera style as I find it less faff to get into quickly and I like the simpler look of not having the flap. But most of the other things I like about the marmont still apply to that bag too!

Me too! I am not interested in spending £1.5k on a bag, but I always look at these threads to see how quickly the sanctimonious posters turn up.
Just waiting for the ‘bench’ posters and we’ll have the full house…😆🍿🍿

whitenoisemachine · 19/03/2024 10:29

@ClonedSquare I've watched a YouTube review and I think the camera bag is more practical to be fair with the zipper.

MotherofWhippets81 · 19/03/2024 10:37

If you can stretch a bit more or you don't mind second hand I would go for one of these all day long.

www.loewe.com/eur/en/women/bags/flamenco/xl-flamenco-clutch-in-nappa-calfskin/A411X12X38-1100.html?cgid=w_flamenco&p=37

Ignore the sanctimonious crew. I can't see how £1500 on a holiday that lasts a week is more noble than a bag that will last you a lifetime and the charity suggestions are hilarious (as someone who works for charity). I would rather have one beautiful bag I use for everything that keep buying cheap ones that eventually will add up to that anyway! I can't afford the Loewe but I hope you enjoy whatever you buy.
