As the title says. Give or take 10% either way. Looking for a really nice new luxury bag and in need of suggestions.

Didn’t take long for the ‘bag for life’ and ‘give it to charity’ posts to appear! So utterly predictable and pathetic

Isn’t it just.

I’d look at Chloe or buy 2 Mulberry’s (just!). A Lily and a tote.

I know. It's such virtue signalling. It's always a problem on handbag threads.
I don't know why a holiday is automatically more "noble", and it's entirely possible to buy a nice handbag and give to charity....

EmpressOfTheThread · 19/03/2024 07:28

The Acne one is nice - a bit different and no big logo. Slightly under price point as well.

teacrumpetsandcake · 19/03/2024 07:30

@EmpressOfTheThread @BlueLimeRun @sammylady37 Mumsnet is populated by a cross section of society - the vast majority of whom will not be spending £1500 on a handbag.

If you post this thread on this site then of course you are going to get these kinds of responses, because most people can't relate to the idea of spending so much money on something like a bag.

You would probably get better responses on a fashion forum which is populated mostly by people who are wealthy.

EmpressOfTheThread · 19/03/2024 07:35

@teacrumpetsandcake I never said people weren't free to post, it's a discussion site. These comments tend to be on handbag sites rather than high spends in other areas, such as wallpaper or coffee machines which always intrigues me. She's asking for recommendations, that's all.

teacrumpetsandcake · 19/03/2024 07:39

@EmpressOfTheThread It is interesting that it's more on handbag threads than other elaborate purchases.

There's nothing wrong with what OP is asking, but I just think that these kinds of comments are to be expected if you post it on a site like mumsnet.

I think that £1500 is a weird price point in the luxury bag market.
As insane as it is most high end brands eg Loewe, Bottega, Celine, Chanel, LV etc start at £2000 so £1500 will at best get a either a tiny nano sized bag or something that is basically overpriced for a small canvas / fabric bag.
Outside of the high end brands there is currently a big market for affordable luxury with brands making good quality bags in the £400-£600 range- such as Polene, Strathberry, De Millier, and personally I would look at these.

However two brands that could work are YSL and Ferragamo, and if I were to stick to the "rules" of your question would go for one of these:

www.net-a-porter.com/en-gb/shop/product/ferragamo/bags/cross-body/hug-small-embellished-textured-leather-shoulder-bag/1647597324970096

100% agree with this. I'd also look at Smythson and Aspinall. The Ferragamo bag previously mentioned is v v nice and much classier imo than the bags littered with shrieking initials.

BlueLimeRun · 19/03/2024 07:47

Well of course woman can’t spend money on themselves. Family holidays totally fine or better never buy anything for yourself and give everything you own to charity.
it’s pathetic, it’s jealousy.

enjoy your bag op.

BlueLimeRun · 19/03/2024 07:49

@teacrumpetsandcake it’s entirely appropriate to post on style and beauty.

Floofydawg · 19/03/2024 07:56

I'm a cross body bag person as well and I'd go for this at your price point. I have the original Gucci Disco and use it absolutely loads. Fits lots on and appropriate for all occasions.

For your budget I’d recommend a Gucci Marmont. The ‘small’ is surprisingly spacious. Different styles and colours to choose from but I’d say the black or cream are pretty timeless. Gucci has excellent customer service from their stores in comparison to other brands so if you’d like to feel a sense of occasion when spending this sum of money, I’d highly recommend The Sloane street branch in particular. Remember, if you are going abroad from a major airport such as Heathrow you can order in the one you fancy into an airside branch and save the VAT. You don’t have to take it with you, you can collect on your return.

I absolutely love these

A client of mine has one it's even more beautiful irl 😍😍

Also OP agree with another poster who's suggested Vestiaire collective if you wouldn't mind pre loved. They have an authentication service. EBay also now have the same and I recently bought a 90s Chanel single flap shoulder bag for a little bit less than your budget .

In orange. I have nothing to go with it and it’s too small. But I love it.

That is absolutely adorable I love it 🥰

Seeleyboo · 19/03/2024 07:58

20p carrier bag and holiday for the rest

DoggieMommie · 19/03/2024 07:58

£75 on something from FatFace and donate the rest to people in need, for whom that money will make a real difference to their lives.

Ireolu · 19/03/2024 08:07

These r the ones I would suggest. The mini puzzle is slightly over budget and the blonde has been mentioned earlier. Enjoy shopping!

But a nice bag from M and S and keep the rest!

I was going to say buy a big bag of Percy pigs (£4)!
I'll see myself out.

narniabusiness · 19/03/2024 08:10

What a great idea for a thread. Many designer handbags seem far too expensive to actually want to take out of the house and risk them getting damaged so your budget seems a more reasonable one. (Does anyone want to risk being mugged for their Chanel?)
The YSL quilted ones were on my radar but it does seem there is a lack of choice at this price point. Personally I’m reluctant to buy second hand as I’m worried about buying a fake. I think there have been problems in the US with some websites poor vetting process.
It would be interesting to make a post on another buying topic so see how many give it to charity posts there are. I’ve never seen one on a wedding outfit thread for example and that’s for an item which only gets worn once.
Im following with interest for more fabulous ideas. Keep the links coming.

If you can’t relate to the topic of the thread, which was so clearly outlined in the title, perhaps you should just scroll on by instead of coming on to give your opinion. You don’t have to post on each thread you see.

And as others have pointed out, it’s become an utterly predictable and so tedious a response on handbag threads, much more so than threads about other luxury purchases. It’s laughable at this point.

Edited to correct typo

Out of interest (and because it’s either do this or clean the bathroom). I looked at a thread from 12th March where the poster was wondering whether to spend £1500 on a wedding dress. Surprisingly no one suggested she give the money to charity instead. Nearly all the replies were ‘go for it’.

takemeawayagain · 19/03/2024 08:20

I don't understand quilted leather with chains handbags, they feel really dated to me - maybe they're seen as timeless? I like the Acne one.

For a dress that she will wear once! Yet spending the same on a handbag that the op will get years out of is criticised. Typical MN, unfortunately

Teentaxidriver · 19/03/2024 08:43

Slight tangent, but have you looked at J&M Davidson? More in the Polene, Strathberry, DeMellier market, I have a couple and they are gorgeous. I think a pp made a valid point about being mugged for your bag, and certainly with highly recognisable or over branded bags there is a risk.

Definitely timeless!*

*biased as I have two 😂

Another one in this price point for consideration
if you want something more capacious and/or casual.
I didn’t used to be a LV fan but somehow this one has found its way onto my wish list.
