Agree with this @sonjadog My issue has always been that I don’t know where else to look. There are some other nice small brands about, but it’s harder work to find them easily.

OftenOrange · 14/04/2024 17:56

@sonjadog @ScottishMouse Likewise am falling out of love, at least this season.

I bought the short sleeved chambray shirt and love the little details that set it apart , but that was all that grabbed me.
I really wish they’d do some lightweight denim shirts and jackets in a vibrant mid blue , I love indigo for jeans but it’s too draining near my face.
Since the pandemic I get no pleasure from clothes shopping in Central London and usually go to convenient local Toast stores , there are two within walking distance; so I’m quite a loyal customer . In fact I bought from the very first Toast clothes collection back in early 90s , lured by the great catalogues, and it was hit and miss in those days , wrap skirts blew open and cute tops shrank two sizes.

I haven’t had any recent quality issues except some silver earrings which they bent over backwards to sort out .
Last Winter’s collection was a winner for me , I went mad and don’t regret it as I’m a fussy shopper and usually difficult to please.

Maybe the staff changes are responsible for the lack lustre offerings this time?

@LoveFairIsleJumpers - I guess cities are where most people live, so they might only have small gardens or a community space? A friend of mine lives in Tottenham and they have the most amazing community garden where they all help with planting and clearing. It looks really nice! I'd love to move back to London, but I would really really miss my garden

About pricing of other brands, I think I'd always check if it was much cheaper elsewhere, although with something like Blundstones or Solovair I wouldn't mind paying a bit extra for the fast and free delivery and free returns

Having said that, the pretty red watering is available at TKMaxx in a smaller version, and in the same size in a very nice blue and green (for about a fiver)

Edited

Are the TK MAxx watering cans metal? If they are I'm getting in the car!

faustina · 15/04/2024 12:51

@canina - I'm so sorry I didn't realise the red one at toast was metal - assumed it was the same as my red Hawes one which is plastic. The TKMaxx ones are plastic too - sorry!

Stoic123 · 15/04/2024 12:53

I'm also not loving this season. I've bought the Garden Bloom bandana which is a nice new shape (so kudos for that), the new longer version of the loopback jersey trousers and a pair of the Novesta Marthon Trail shoes (returning from last year). No new Home items at all and I normally buy a few bits. My only keeper from the March sales in the end was a pair of Chup socks.

My current wishlist consists of a pair of Kathe Trousers and the only new thing about those is the name.

Oh well, will see what happens with the next drop. Maybe my wardrobe is now just full- though I've thought that before and then been inspired by a Live to buy more. Ho hum.

canina · 15/04/2024 13:25

Never mind, saved me a trip.
BTW the Toast metal one is not red.......it's nasturtium 😅

MrsRadichio · 15/04/2024 13:26

I’m conflicted about the lack of new clothes - it’s nice to see new things but also found the frequent drops at odds with their sustainability claims.

same issue for all brands I guess.

I don’t really have my eye on anything - usually I earmark a couple of things to look for in the sale.

Countmeout · 15/04/2024 14:26

I think the new stuff and the potential May things is all a bit out of sync. They’d have been better to drop in one go. I do think May is late for summer things ( I’m away towards the end of May and want to buy things now so I can plan.)

Ive bought the Island gingham scarf, the striped green dress and the Scout nightdress ( this sold out very quickly but it reappeared) . I’ll hold out for a sale to think about a coat. I’m in 2 minds about the waistcoat.

Really sorry to hear Nikki has gone. Disappointed yet again it’s Style in the Stix doing the live.

What a great colour! I have the Haws in copper in the same size, and I totally love it. It never drips.

MrsCat1 · 15/04/2024 17:48

Just popping by to say I have recently bought the V neck organic tee and the gingham seersucker dress, both of which I love. Tee is the sort of everyday thing that I will wear to death while I love the colour of the dress (quite bright!) and the style suits me. What does come through to me on this thread is how different we are and we all have varying ideas. I know that some people will find the dress too vivid - whereas I find a lot of Toast's colours too muted these days. But I think we all like good quality fabric and interesting design and that is what we have in common.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 15/04/2024 19:34

@MrsCat1 I have my eye on the V-neck tee, how deep is the V? It looks quite respectable on the models but that isn’t always the case in real life.

I was disappointed to see Style in the Stix are doing the live again @Countmeout , I would prefer to see Evie.

MrsCat1 · 15/04/2024 20:16

@Theteapotsbrokenspout
The v neck on me is pretty similar to the models - maybe slightly deeper. Quality is good. I have the deep blue.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 15/04/2024 20:47

Thank you @MrsCat1 that sounds promising.

AvaGardens · 15/04/2024 21:53

Dropping by after an illness, family dramas and a short break on holiday.
A treat to see all the posts I've missed.

I was very sorry to hear Nikki had gone, I had wondered why I hadn't seen her in the lives.
That's disappointing.

She had energy combined with years of knowledge and experience that the usual presenters don't have.

Unlike Nikki they usually don't point out details and have enough knowledge about the fabrics, texture, origins etc, or spend time on the back of items.

I liked the way she'd be fiddling and unbuttoning, changing the outfits on the 'models', rolling up sleeves and pushing and pulling!!
Evie's voice is grating for me, and the Style in the Styx ladies just waffle on about how lovely everything is.
I prefer the Graham Street mum & daughter duo, much more talent and depth.
Whinge over.

My favourite buy so far is the green striped dress and linen stripe A line blouse. Certainly haven't spent so much this season.. quality maybe, too many shapes exaggerated?!
I'd like to transport 5-6 years back in time.. that's my favourite Toast period, combined with John Lewis availability and sales, is it weird to admit I sometimes dream about those days
😳 😅

lordloveadog · 16/04/2024 09:55

Thanks for advice re shrunken skirt. I pulled and ironed it back to nearly its original shape, so it's only about 2 or 3 cm shorter now. I don't want to return it because it is still useful, but I did prefer it longer and feel the material has lost its lustre. I have other crinkle fabric things which haven't shrunk like this.

On the plus side, if you like the skirt but wish it was shorter, this may work out nicely for you!

oddandelsewhere · 16/04/2024 13:27

@lordloveadog I'm so glad your skirt improved! I'm sure that my dress has probably lost the same sort of amount of length, but like you I'm keeping it because it's so useful and comfortable. I couldn't work out at first the best colour for a cardigan to go with it, but I held up some very pale duck egg coloured lambswool yarn beside it and think it looks very good. So now I have to knit like a fiend. I would much rather have just bought one!

lordloveadog · 16/04/2024 20:44

Oh I do wish they'd do the cashmere boxy cardie in a duck egg! That'd be beautiful

neveradullmoment99 · 16/04/2024 22:02

@sonjadog How did you find the apron dress sizewise? Did you size down or get your normal size. I am a 14 and considering ordering it but not sure I should go for the SM or the LXL.!!

sonjadog · 16/04/2024 22:11

@neveradullmoment99 I am normally the XL and it fitted (usually size 20). It is loose fitting and with the tied sides, it is easily adjustable. I would think as a size 14 the S/M would be the right size you for. The L/XL will be too big.

neveradullmoment99 · 16/04/2024 22:12

Thank you!!! Such a speedy reply! :)

neveradullmoment99 · 16/04/2024 22:13

Is it quite secure?

neveradullmoment99 · 16/04/2024 22:16

Ive ordered it in the green as I already have a cotton linen pinafore in navy. Thanks again!

sonjadog · 16/04/2024 22:16

Yes, I find it very secure. Not had any problem yet at all.

neveradullmoment99 · 16/04/2024 22:17

I ordered the other apron dress but have been really worried about it opening [the one with the fine straps] so have decided to return it.

sonjadog · 17/04/2024 08:16

I did wonder about that when I order up the navy one, but I haven't had any issues at all. It looks best for me tied at the back, so for the ones that tie at the front underneath, I do in a double-knot so to make it extra secure and the ones at the back I tie in a single knot. So far I have never had to redo them during the day.
