Anyone up for some more general wardrobe chat while waiting for new things to arrive? I’ve spent some time this weekend taking out spring and summer items, thinking about having a wee clear out, and it’s making me muse more generally….
Does anyone (or has anyone ever) have a fairly neutral wardrobe, sticking to black/navy/white/cream/grey and just adding pops of colour here and there? No patterns or colour mixes? I realise that I am drawn to denim, navy, black, grey, white, Toast’s lovely slate colour, a nice mustard/cinnamon type brown, classic Breton stripes, simple but interesting shapes, good cuts and good fabrics. I often think I have nothing to wear because I pick out one item, say a top, and find that I don’t have trousers to go with it, or one pair of trousers that work with it but then no shoes that work with those trousers, or no jacket, or something else.
I have been struggling with terrible menopause weight gain over the last few years which doesn’t help. I have lots of things that are a bit tight or unflattering but not quite too small to get rid of (I’m working hard to lose enough to feel a bit more myself, so hoping I might get back into said things). I used to wear a lot of jeans, but have struggled to find any that work for my shape now.
Today I had to go out but was in a rush and threw on my oldest Toast sweater - a navy fisherman rib one from so many years ago. It is wearing away but I still feel great in it. A pair of very faded indigo Alix and a pair of Saucony shadow trainers plus a light grey shawl type scarf and my Francli phone case. A no frills outfit, but it felt so me and so fuss free. I am wondering if I need to try and create a more “capsule wardrobe” (hate that phrase!) and cast off the more colourful and fussy pieces that I like very much but throw me in terms of putting an outfit together. Plain simple items with a pop of colour in a scarf or beanie if I feel the need, and a variety of shoes and jackets to mix it up. These would obviously still more or less all come from Toast 😆
Just wondering if anyone has a similar approach or has thoughts….
Quite the essay, sorry!
