@Dee1224
I like the dark navy vest they have paired it with although I would knit my own
White, soft grey, black and navy all work with this and khaki and the same colours work with the black.
Both so versatile.
I prefer dresses or trousers but both colours of the skirt are so useful and a perfect wardrobe staple.
I've got those crisp poplin sleeveless tops from a couple of summers ago in white, orange and ochre and plan to wear them with both skirts .

Dee1224 · 17/02/2024 13:20

Thanks @Alpacasoft - do you have the dark olive crinkle skirt? If so, have you washed it yet?

I haven't worn it yet, I only bought it yesterday @Dee1224

Dee1224 · 17/02/2024 13:29

I see @Alpacasoft - thanks

Qweesh · 17/02/2024 13:33

Dee1224 · 17/02/2024 13:17

Thanks @Qweesh - mine has a check lining. It really isn’t screaming ‘I will wash well’ to me. I did ask instore and the assistant said she had one ‘similar’ and it washed ok- but then, they would say that…

Were Toast ok about you returning it due to shrinkage? Did you contact CS first or just go into a store?

Edited

I just did a return selecting ‘Quality Issue’ from the drop down as I was in my return window. I phoned them to tell them I was returning it for a refund because I had washed it and it had shrunk. They put a note on my account and it was refunded a day or 2 after they’d received it.

I also returned the cobalt linen dress last year because it had started fraying at the shoulder. I had emailed to ask about a return because I was outside my window. They sent me a post label so that they could inspect it. I got lots of questions about how I’d washed it, temp etc. it took them almost 3 weeks to issue a refund.

So I would recommend the do and tell method if you are within your return window to save yourself any hassle.

Dee1224 · 17/02/2024 13:43

Thanks @Qweesh - I am wondering whether I should just return it OR wash it gently now and see what happens.

Re: The dress you sent back - it is probably destined for the mended section of the Toast website at double its original cost!

Alpacasoft · 17/02/2024 13:43

Oh just saw you are worried about shrinkage @Dee1224
I've got dresses and the black skirt in the double crinkle fabric and all have washed fine.
I washed on its own, cool wash , on its own to avoid snagging the outer fabric

Dee1224 · 17/02/2024 13:46

Thanks @Alpacasoft - I just have a horror of shrinkage as it’s happened to me so many times, even when handwashing in practically cold water. I like the length of the skirt as is - I wouldn’t like it if it shrank upwards at all. Plus, the waistband is just ok now. Any shrinkage of that and I would be cut in half!

Dee1224 · 17/02/2024 13:47

I am stressing because it’s a lot of money for a skirt unless I am practically going to live in it in spring, autumn and winter. Imo, it’s too thick and dark for summer.

Qweesh · 17/02/2024 13:52

@Dee1224 I’d washed the red crinkle dress on 30. I appreciate that the crinkles need a little relaxing again but this looked like I’d gone a size down. Anyway, if you really like the skirt and want to keep it, I’d wash it within your return window and go from there.

I love the Toast viscose dresses but I don’t buy any because I really can’t be stuffed with the possibility of shrinking.

Ha! Yes, probably. They have a Sunflower yellow poplin dress on there. I got it in the sale ages ago for £120 and this resurrected one is listed for £250; I think that’s more than the dress cost new 🤣

Dee1224 · 17/02/2024 13:55

I’m with you on the viscose @Qweesh - it always shrinks imo and I have stopped buying it as a result.

Qweesh · 17/02/2024 13:56

Clothes aren’t worth the stress @Dee1224 Would you consider making one instead? I think that type of skirt would be fairly straightforward.

Dee1224 · 17/02/2024 13:59

@Qweesh - if only I could sew😹. (My only foray into dressmaking was an unsuccessful attempt to make a skirt in Year 7 and 8 needlework.) I am very very jealous and in absolute awe of people who can sew their own clothes.

I know I am overthinking this skirt. I am off to have another look at it!

Alpacasoft · 17/02/2024 14:08

I've never had anything shrink, is your machine very old?

The other alternative is the fabric wasn't preshrunk before sewing but I think they would need to pull the whole batch.

The viscose relaxes with a gentle press.@Dee1224

Dark olive/ khaki is one of my favourite Summer colours 😅and I'm planning on wearing mine with tan sandals and a crisp white fitted shirt on a cooler summer day.

Dee1224 · 17/02/2024 14:27

My ability to shrink, even when handwashing is legendary @Alpacasoft - my machine is new-ish and has a handwashing cycle - my Toast pjs survived that programme but my lovely viscose dress from JL shrunk upwards a good four inches - it is now knee length and unwearable 😾

Oh dear!

ScottishMouse · 17/02/2024 15:51

I love that skirt @Dee1224 and would wear it with a classic Breton top in summer and knitwear in any sort of neutral, or perhaps orange (which I like to think is a neutral!) in winter.
I thought that skirt was a no brainier for me but it somehow didn’t work for me with the pleats at the front. You’re making me think I should give it another try.
I have booked to go to the Kindred event in Edinburgh on the 29th. Anyone else going?

Countmeout · 17/02/2024 16:26

I love white with olive @Dee1224 . I think it looks lovely in summer and @ScottishMouse is right about a Breton.
I don’t trust the handwash setting on a washing machine very often. That’s why I use the 14 minute low spin ( and discovered it’s actually 20C it can be set to once I was able to see properly)

Where are you all seeing the events to book @ Scottish mouse? I could be tempted to go for a wee weekend very easily.

There was an orange knitted vest in the new stuff I saw in London yesterday, would look lovely with it !

Dee1224 · 17/02/2024 16:37

Thanks @ScottishMouse - DH has just said it’s ‘quite nice’ on, which considering his general lack of enthusiasm for anything clothes related, is high praise indeed!

Funnily enough @Alpacasoft I am wearing it with an ancient orange woolly cardigan atm and the colours do ‘go’.

@Countmeout - the Kindred event details in Brighton, London and Edinburgh were sent to me in a Kindred email.

ScottishMouse · 17/02/2024 16:38

Ooh an orange vest @Alpacasoft!

I like orange with almost any colour @Dee1224 (except black - too halloweeny!).

Bummer. I’m going to be Edinburgh on the 28th so will just miss it. It’s ok though I’m big kid excited just to be able to visit a Toast shop! 🤣🤣

ScottishMouse · 17/02/2024 16:41

That’s a shame @whinsome. But good to be able to visit the shop anyway.
