That's great yours only has gaps in a couple of places, @OftenOrange . It is such an elegant jumper, and the colour is amazing. Sadly, mine has the gaps all along the front of the neckline. I'll send it back but probably order another one if it pops up in another sale and hope for one with fewer gaps.

FitzLea · 25/03/2024 16:31

@faustina i took my usual size and thought it a nice roomy fit. The neck ends stand up quite a lot, really peculiar but I do wonder if they’d settle down at all, or need a gentle reshape with steam?

ScottishMouse · 25/03/2024 16:32

My orders just arrived and are mostly, if not all, going back.

Walnut jacket - same issue as you @faustina, sleeves are just too tight.
Blaze cotton merino cardi - colour is fab, sizing is small though, and the quality of the finishing in places is shockingly bad.
Neat cashmere wool sweater - colour is not at all what I expected and doesn’t suit me.
Navy mariner sweater - ordered both M and L and they are exactly the same size! It’s a good shape and fit, but is it a bit dull?
Gingham cotton wool trousers - I don’t think these are flattering on me at all, which is disappointing as so many people liked them, and I love the fabric. I will try again, but they give me a bad case of nappy arse I think.

ScottishMouse · 25/03/2024 16:34

I ordered two small scarves in the Jo Gordon sale and they arrived today too and are possibly the only things I am keeping!

faustina · 25/03/2024 16:34

@FitzLea - yes do you mean like this? But I think that's part of the mariner style?

@OftenOrange - I tried the walnut jacket with a thinner cashmere and it does fit fine, so still in the game! It's not generous though

on another topic, I washed my arc pants yesterday and tumble dried them in my more than useless Miele heat pump tumble drier. they have shrunk very slightly in length which is a lovely surprise for me, but anyone else who is taller might like to take note

@faustina thanks so much for the photos - that’s what I mean, and didn’t realise it was supposed to be like that 🤦‍♀️

sonjadog · 25/03/2024 17:01

@whinsome Is that the sweater in the photo? If so, I think that is very shoddily made. I would send that one back. Toast clothes are so expensive that I expect high standards in their construction!

whinsome · 25/03/2024 17:19

Yup, it’s the jumper in the photo.

And I’m only holding it up to get some light behind it, not to stretch it as the gaps are quite apparent without help.

It is disappointing, isn’t it?

I’m definitely sending it back. I must’ve just got a bad one as I don’t remember any of the reviews mentioning this - and can’t check them now as it’s off the selling pages.

AmethystMoonShine · 26/03/2024 06:34

Mixed bag for me, which is just as well or it would have been an expensive sale.

I’m keeping the mariner jumper, I will wear this a lot. It’s a great fit and I’ve been after a navy jumper for ages.

Also staying is the navy Alpaca cardigan which is a lot like my black Brora one but a bit more cropped.

The russet forward seam trousers are keepers but the khaki are going back as the colour is too similar to a pair I have from Finisterre. Then I am also keeping the tulip PJs as I need another pair. Had to size up from my last ones though.

Toast lost out on sales to me due to sizing with the rest I ordered as with most of them I ordered the size Toast suggested for me. This has always been accurate in the past…. Not now though! The boat neck top, wrap PJs, neat cashmere jumper and a dress were all too small. So I fear ordering multiple sizes again may be needed in future, which is a pain. A shame as I really wanted the other items but the shirt sale means I can’t reorder.

AmethystMoonShine · 26/03/2024 06:35

*short sale I mean 😳

ScottishMouse · 26/03/2024 06:40

@AmethystMoonShine it is so hard to predict sizing. I had to order multiples in a few items. I reckon you might be able to get the items you wanted in the right size if you contacted CS. I can vouch for the wrap pjs, bought them in the last sale and love them.

AmethystMoonShine · 26/03/2024 06:41

Oh that’s a good idea @ScottishMouse I might try that. Thank you

ScottishMouse · 26/03/2024 06:42

Sorry to enable!

Countmeout · 26/03/2024 07:15

So I’ve tried on the Alix wool check trousers. I had a discussion about these in store when I was over and compared 2 sizes. I ordered the S ( normally buy 8 in these when they were separate sizes as they were for a while). S is fine in the waist. They seem slightly bigger than my normal size in the bum and legs but not impossible. So will keep.
Agree multiple sizes in some things need to be ordered to be sure of fit which is annoying. The Emma tee is marginally bigger than my boat neck Tee ( first time buying Emma. I prefer the neckline on it to the boat neck.

I see there is a men’s early summer styling video soon, I assume there will be a woman’s summer drop shortly.

AvaGardens · 26/03/2024 09:57

@Countmeout I'm looking forward to the summer offering, my wardrobe is heavily autumn/winter based, as I recently discovered with a house move.
I need to add a few lighter items.

My sales purchases were very few but safe, I went for the Cotton Boy Indigo Tee, which I already had so knew it would be a useful back up.
Plus the Stripe Organic Gathered Shirt, can't find pic now, its the one with the short sleeves and little drawstrings at the front, it had a matching skirt last year.

I'm rather annoyed with myself, its much more vibrant than it looked online and I love it, I wish I'd ordered it, and the skirt, last year 😭

And that was it, two items, apart from this seasons Wax Green Gabi's, which are a beautiful green and feel very smooth.

I think the Gabi's are very good value compared to many other items at Toast!

Popplebop · 26/03/2024 11:00

I have kept the Ada double cotton pjs - really pleased with them. And the button shoulder cashmere sweater in cornflower - will be another staple wardrobe item for me. Returned the poplin olive beaded shirt as the collar was so heavy. I couldn’t see me reaching for it and I do have quite a few shirts now. The most expensive item has gone back which is good for my bank account!

faustina · 26/03/2024 15:29

It's exhausting, isn't it? Unless you've tried it on before, you have to take a wild guess at which size you might be in that particular thing. I think the 'new' sizing has just muddied the waters. It's really no clearer than before, and there's still an inconsistency between individual pieces.

Anyway, if I had had more time, I might have ordered the mariner jumper in a smaller size (XS) as the small seemed a bit shapeless on me, but then I tried on a navy Donegal Knitwear jumper which I already have and I prefer that, so the mariner jumper is going back because too big. The loopback cotton jumper in navy in a small is going back because it's quite fitted - would have sized up if I'd known, and the short padded jacket with a gingham lining is going back (XS/XXS) because it's way too big.

The walnut jacket is staying even though in an 8, the arms are quite tight With anything but a tshirt underneath. I can just about wear a thin cashmere instead but it's not roomy! It is very lovely though and I've been looking for something in that colour for a long time without success.

@AvaGardens - I am going to buy the wax green gabis soon. I don't suppose you could tell me how they compare to old size gabis?

AvaGardens · 26/03/2024 15:50

@faustina I personally found that they haven't changed at all!

I think someone mentioned that early in this thread too, but can't remember who.

This size 12 is exactly the same as my other pairs from over the last few years.
I've always thought they are generously sized as I'm between 12-14 and hate tight trousers.

faustina · 26/03/2024 15:51

Thanks @AvaGardens

FitzLea · 26/03/2024 16:11

@faustina I’m going to be sending back an XS in the next few days so something to contact CS about if you’re interested. I wanted to ask about the cashmere cardigan in midnight - is the sizing as expected? I’d really like to get my hands on an XS…

FitzLea · 26/03/2024 16:22

@RockaLock have you received your green bits yet? I love the boots but my sweater is going back.

faustina · 26/03/2024 16:57

@FitzLea - thank you! I'm not really sure it's worth another go at it for me as I tried on a jumper I already have (in navy) and they're very similar. Are you sending yours back because of the pointy collar? The sizing on the midnight cardigan was similar to the mariner jumper, except even though it was very unfitted in a small, the buttons were gaping - not because it was too small, just because of the placement perhaps? It was so so soft, but the length and colour didn't work for me

FitzLea · 26/03/2024 17:09

@faustina yes I just can’t get on with the collar, and whilst I do like navy I think the dark navy is just a little too dark for my complexion. That’s why I thought I might try the cardigan as it might be a bit of lighter shade - so might try CS in a week or so to check for any returns.

RockaLock · 26/03/2024 17:28

Hello @FitzLea, yes, my parcel arrived yesterday.

We are opposites!

I am keeping the flecky jumper, it's a great colour on me (the green one) and is nice and cosy. It's quite a casual style/fit, usually I prefer something a bit more fitted but tbf I already have plenty of fitted (green) jumpers...

The fracap boots however have already gone back. I didn't realise that the ones I had ordered were that sort of pebbled/dimply leather, but also they felt a bit too big, so I returned them. Which is a shame, because the alternatives I have been looking at are probably £100 more Hmm

sonjadog · 26/03/2024 17:36

I got my parcel today. The green cord skirt is going back. The cord is very nice and the colour is bright and fun, but the shape doesn't suit me (as I suspected). I am wider in the hips than the skirt is designed for. Yet again, the new Toast sizing has let me down...

However, I love the apron dress. It is even better than I hoped and I will wear it and wear it. It is everything that Toast used to be for me - interesting design, good quality, comfy and useful! I do hope they make more pieces like this in future.
