Thanks! I think it will be very useful this summer. 😊

canina · 17/03/2024 10:09

@sonjadog They should employ you as a designer at toast, great alteration

sonjadog · 17/03/2024 11:50

Thank you! You are all very kind!

whinsome · 17/03/2024 12:41

Great design @sonjadog, you’re very talented. I’d buy one if Toast end up doing similar :)

Qweesh · 18/03/2024 09:28

Great Toasties, I need help please. I am flying soon and plan to wear the V neck jersey dress on the plane, I have it in black. But I want a jacket to go with it, (and all of my other Toast dresses throughout spring/colder summer days). Ideally I would like denim, but not the ubiquitous Levi’s trucker jacket (I don’t dislike it but have had one before and rarely wore it). I have been eyeing up the Toast Hal jacket, anyone have it? Any other suggestions not Toast but in that vein, and not necessarily denim, gratefully received 😁

fyi if it helps, some of the dresses I have and would wear it with include the new cabin check, marigold rounded hem, broad check, gauzy lime check, apricot check, neon yellow easy dress and the olive/tangerine blouson dress.

MrsRadichio · 18/03/2024 09:39

@Qweesh i feel like a chore jacket would work, they seem to go with everything though skew casual. Toast does them, also look at community clothing or for the real deal the french workwear company has some lovely ones. Colour wise they can be khaki or that lovely cobalt blue.

@sonjadog another one admiring your alterations.

I’ve been keeping an eye out for sale, think it will be this week fingers crossed!

@Countmeout the dark olive stripe dress has arrived and I'm wondering if I need a smaller size. I ordered the M even though I was recommended the S, and this does look slightly too large.
I do really like the dress, apart from a weird collar issue which I sorted with a quick iron. I think I may reorder in the S.

Countmeout · 18/03/2024 10:52

@Qweesh , I agree about the chore jacket being a better buy. The Hal is quite long for dresses I find.

@Theteapotsbrokenspout yes try the S I think it’s a generous dress. I will iron my collar too, I think it’s better slightly back from my neck, I thought I might put a tack stitch in it to keep it in place.

I'm v tempted by the nasturtium cabin check dress - v interested to learn that there might be a sale later this week as I was literally planning to go and try it on today (if it's in store).

Does anybody have it?

Qweesh · 18/03/2024 11:10

Thanks very much @MrsRadichio @Countmeout. I’ve found one I quite like on Community Clothing. I did go down a bit of a rabbit hole on the French Workwear page, there are some lovely reworked ones.

ScottishMouse · 18/03/2024 12:47

I have the Hal jacket and wear it with everything @Qweesh . I would definitely recommend it. Mine is a few years old so I’m not sure if sizing has changed on it, but I would say mine is about one size oversized (it’s a 10, I’m a 12, I can fit a chunky sweater under it).

Qweesh · 18/03/2024 13:19

Ooh thanks @ScottishMouse do you find it long? I was looking at the Toast images of the current Hal and it seems to hit top hip on the model. I’m only 5’5” and anything longer really just looks wrong on me. I might just order the Hal and the CC one and compare 🤔

Countmeout · 18/03/2024 15:23

@Qweesh my Hal jacket is 3 inches longer than my Darcy jackets. Darcy is discontinued but I think there must be something similar somewhere.

Darcy. I think this length works best with a dress.

It came in navy too.

Qweesh · 18/03/2024 15:54

Oh @Countmeout the Darcy would be perfect! Typical eh. I always look for something specific, find the perfect thing and then find it’s sold out/discontinued. The search is ON!

ScottishMouse · 18/03/2024 16:23

It Is a bit longer @Qweesh. I don’t mind that though.

Qweesh · 18/03/2024 16:47

@Countmeout@ScottishMouse@MrsRadichio I’ve had a mad day at work and I feel I’ve gone a little crackpot. But! I bought some fabric and a pattern 🤪 wish me luck!!!

Going to have a moan.

Fed up with rip-off prices at Toast.
Prices up and quality down.
Compared to 3 years ago.
Is because they are no longer family owned? Now they have shareholders or greedy corporates wanting maximum profit. it seems to be a case of how much can they fleece Toast buyers for?

Anyway I was further outraged today when I see that you can donate your old Toast clothes. Give them back to Toast. Who then repair them if necessary and sell on as renewed (at higher prices than the original) or as reworn. And the donater gets nothing. Effing unbelievable.i also think that Toast sell most of the donated items on eBay, the Facebook group or Vinted.

And is it just me but some of the styling videos they put up ... Just awful. My grandmother wouldn't have worn many of their suggestions. They looks so old fashioned and make most of the models look dumpy in them.

Rant over ... Got out of bed on the wrong side

SaffyRosie · 18/03/2024 17:42

@Theteapotsbrokenspout
I'm very wary of tops, shirts, jackets that finish at my widest part - my hips. The eye is them drawn to that area.

The stripe top and matching trousers do look rather like crumpled pyjamas to me.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 18/03/2024 18:15

@SaffyRosie thank you for your observations. I have spent some of today trying the stripe co-ords on with a selection of other pieces. I also think I am rubbish at taking decent photos so that doesn’t help.
Anyway I have come to the conclusion that the trousers work with a lot of things and are something that I know I will wear. Reluctantly I am sending the shirt back, although I did follow the advice on this thread to try the two pieces with a light top, which looked a lot better. I liked the shirt tucked in with jeans, but that didn’t work with the front pockets. I may repurchase if it appears in a future sale, but at full price I don’t think it will earn its keep.

Alltheberries · 18/03/2024 19:56

@SaffyRosie Thank you for saying that. I am inclined to agree with you. Toast was my go to clothes shop but in the last two years I have struggled to find anything I like and when I have bought I have often had to return. The exception is jumpers which still work for me. Maybe there is less to go wrong with a jumper? I just keep hoping there will be a return to previous form and so keep looking- I still want to like Toast.
My main issues are the prices of simple T shirts which are often very thin fabric , the inconsistent sizing and recent styles. And yeah their donation thing is bizarre. No incentive.

faustina · 18/03/2024 20:27

@SaffyRosie - I'm often quite surprised at some of the choices they make for styles - and I haven't seen their designer recently (Laura somebody?) - maybe there's been a change? Anyway, I thought I'd just comment about the Facebook group which I can 100% assure you has nothing to do with Toast itself. We try very hard to keep it free from resellers too and there are some lovely things to find there. Someone has just listed their entire collection of Toast beads - it's a real treasure trove and very reasonable priced. You should go and have a look!

Qweesh · 18/03/2024 21:45

Ooo thanks @Snowyowl78 🙌
