Botox is it worth it?

Im 50 and all of a sudden I have wrinkles and lines which are really aging, I also look like I’m permanently scowling or growling with collapsed eye brows. Also hate my 11 lines.

I just want to look like a fresher version of my self. Anyone relate? Did Botox fix it for you?

So due to having thick, oily skin and having used tretinoin and high factor SPF for 25 years I don't actually have any lines or wrinkles at 46. Does Botox have any other benefits I could benefit from or is it just for relaxing lines?

I've been accused of using botox due to my lack of lines so if it could actually do something for me then why not!

Edited

The only other benefit to me has been the reduction in headaches - I think because I don't frown as hard I don't get the tension headaches over my forehead. It's actually only when I start getting headaches again that I remember it's time for a top up!

wellydiver · 31/01/2024 09:49

@WhenWereYouUnderMe I do get migraines and have been offered botox by my neurologist (NHS) but I currently use a different treatment which kind of works and I'd have to stop that to get the botox from him, which I believe most goes into the back of your head! Something to think about for when I see him again in May!

Yes. I have it for 11s only and I can still raise my eyebrows etc, just can't frown. Now when I try to frown, I look pleasantly concerned instead absolutely furious.

Me too. Much prefer myself without the scary scowl.

FreezyFord · 31/01/2024 09:51

Yes, it’s brilliant. Stops people asking if I’m tired!

No, but then I'm someone who wouldn't inject something unnceccesary into my face to stop the muscles in it functioning.

If we acknowledge your superiority, will you go away?

Oh interesting! Worth considering if it might help. It took me a month or two to realise that my headaches had just melted away to be honest!

Whatever. I just feel sorry for you.

No you don't. It's obvious why you're here. You want to try Botox but you think it's beneath you. So rather than just deciding to do it or not do it, you plop into threads about it in a desperate attempt to make us agree that you're superior when in fact you're just jealous. And that is more obvious than any Botox I've ever had.

Just go get it if you want it. If you decide you don't like it, it'll wear off.

WhenWereYouUnderMe · 31/01/2024 09:58

Yeah @Fireflymeme come and join the dark side so other internet randoms can drop their faux sympathy on you 😆

InAMess2023 · 31/01/2024 10:03

Oh god hadn't RTFT but I see the usuals are out trying to make out like we can't make our own decisions or know our own mind (hmm it's a bit like when I kept being told I couldn't possibly like what I like in bed and I only like it because the patriarchy told me so)

I had Botox because I had wrinkles and I didn't like them. I don't have wrinkles any more but I can still move every part of my face. Oh and I was in an accident years ago which ripped most of my face off and it's done a pretty good job of filling in the scars as well 👍🏼

WhenWereYouUnderMe · 31/01/2024 10:08

That's what I don't get @InAMess2023

People generally say two things:

  • that faces become immobile - not generally, no! Mine never has, can still move my eyebrows just fine, the only effect is to melt the grooves away.
  • if you get it you can't stop. Makes no sense to me, who says that about dying their hair for example?

It's just unthinking basic regurgitated crap. But can they just scroll past.....

Women do in fact age OP, it's just that most have been brainwashed to pretend we don't.
I bet none of the above have ever lost a loved one young, because that alone wakes you up to the fragility of life and how insane to try to turn the clock back.

Augustus40 · 31/01/2024 10:11

Some people have very odd views towards aesthetics.

One acquaintance I knew thought I had fillers done owing to a self esteem issue because of being single. FFS!I

I can no longer afford them but I think using a good quality serum will be nearly as good.

I've lost several family members young. Actually, my face fell in after a particularly horrid double loss and that's why I started having Botox.

Are you weaponising bereavement to take pot shots about Botox?

LondonLass91 · 31/01/2024 10:23

I recently had botox for crows feet and he put 2 small injections under my eyes too (in the actual bags under my eyes). I deliberately didn't have it anywhere else because i have found that, previously, this made my eyebrows go up and gave me a bit of a joker look. Although i think probably only i noticed it. Anyway, i think it looks wonderful, very natural. I'd never had the under eyes thing and my doctor told me it was relatively new but also very common. Honestly i smile loads now, whereas just a month ago i would make sure my smile didn't reach my eyes.

I started getting Botox around the time one of my children started trying to kill themselves with alarming regularity.

Have I reached the level of human understanding required by you now?

Any recommendations for the Bristol area would be very much appreciated!

I wasn't interested until I met a client who just looked incredibly well rested all the time. When I complimented her she raved about Botox. I honestly had no idea! I've been getting frozen lines and eye lines done for a while now and I'm very pleased. I chose a clinic I knew friends used and made sure it was doctors and not just beauticians. It's not cheap but I now pay £50ish a month for 3 monthly treatments which includes some facials.
I wish I'd started earlier as once you're forehead drops a bit they won't inject upper forehead to smooth it out as it risks pushing your eyebrows down and making you look worse. Imo a conservative prescriber is a good one.

It's also incredibly fast - my top ups take 10 minutes and it doesn't even fill a lunch hour. It's almost painless and between appointments is zero maintenance.

I love it

Is that in Sutton Coldfield? I'd been considering going there after a bad experience previously.

DogsAreBetterThanHusbands · 31/01/2024 10:31

Any recommendations for North Surrey/west London/east Berkshire??

Nice try but I lost my father when I was 13 - he was 41 and had an undiagnosed heart condition. I'm perfectly aware of the fragility of life and so that's why I will live my own life how I wish, and that includes getting toxins injected into my face ✌

wellydiver · 31/01/2024 10:41

@BlueRidgeMountains If there is one thing certain is that we will all die one day and we will all lose those we love at some point though death. Your point is ridiculous. Why would you come on a style and beauty thread to make that kind of post. If you think women who care about their looks are all shallow and vacuous why bother with us?

Aesthetic clinic | Claudia's Cosmetic Clinic | Warfield (claudiascosmeticclinics.com)

Very good I found and a great eye for it - have previously used GPs, cosmetic surgeons and nurses for botox and the above is the best.

I only get my 11s done as they are quite deep and make me look pissed off. I don't have crows feet or forehead wrinkles. I do have deep nasolabial lines which I hate but botox won't help with that and I haven't gone down the route of filler.

My forehead and eyebrows still move but I look a lot less pissed off at everything.

aliceinanwonderland · 31/01/2024 11:18

Can anyone explain thd difference between Botox and filler? Is one more subtle?

wellydiver · 31/01/2024 11:20

@aliceinanwonderland Filler replaces lost volume or alters the shapes of your face i.e. bigger lips, cheek bones. Botox smooths out lines by paralysing the muscles to some degree.
