Botox is it worth it?

Im 50 and all of a sudden I have wrinkles and lines which are really aging, I also look like I’m permanently scowling or growling with collapsed eye brows. Also hate my 11 lines.

I just want to look like a fresher version of my self. Anyone relate? Did Botox fix it for you?

Im so pleased i found this post. I think its helped me make my mind up. I’m 55 and have never looked my age (not a brag) but i’ve had a tough few years and i feel like i’ve aged, and tbh it’s making me unhappy and feel it will help me feel more confident in myself. I have the 11 mark and a permanent frown line on the bridge of my nose, that i feel is quite noticeable (to me, no one else) and also the lines around the bottom of my mouth, also as though my smile is upside down, i don’t know the correct term. I know the forehead area is botex, would the mouth area be too or is filler needed to plump that area out? Filler makes me a bit more nervous as to if it can go wrong.
Im not doing this for vanity, in all honesty i’m a bit of a plain jane, i just want to feel more confident and a bit more like my old self. I look after myself, exercise well and have my hair coloured to hide the grey , and feel this may be the boost i need, I’ve booked in for dermaplaning with a reputable salon that i used to go to pre -covid (qualified nurses) and am going to get some advise. Is there anything i should be asking? I’m going on hols in April so thought i’d quite like it for then, is there a time period you should leave before sun etc. sorry for all the questions. thanks x

You can get botox at the sides of your mouth but it doesn't last as long as in other places in my experience. Filer can help lift the area too - I had 1ml of lip filler and it did help with my resting bitch mouth. Botox has very little down time, I think you're not meant to lie down for 4 hours afterwards or do any heavy workouts.

@anon1968 they might suggest filler around your cheekbones to pull your cheeks up and reduce the creases between your cheeks and chin. Then fill the creases themselves a little.

I can't really offer an opinion on whether that's a good idea, it's more than I'm willing to sign up to!

The problem with this is it's really quite impossible to put enough filler in the cheeks to lift the face enough to eradicate naso labial lines. We have all seen the result of attempting this. Massive cheeks that look odd especially when it squishes up the eyes.

Over filing the lines themselves is also not ideal as one ends up with a simian look pushed out of shape. It's not good.

You can see here when Courtney cox was over filling she lost the natural curves in the face. She looks miles better and fresher now that she has stopped over filling even if she has deeper lines now.

Botox is very popular but it's very normal now. I think most of the "weird" looks around nowadays are more likely to be from filler than Botox; I don't know if it's actually any newer as a procedure but I don't think it's as established with as much understanding about how to do it right. I expect it'll level out the way Botox largely has; of course there will always be people who overdo it but it'll get more established and people will be more careful about it.

GettingItWrong33 · 03/02/2024 19:48

Yes it's great but I do wish I didn't hate my lines so much.
I wonder if they look worse because I have a large forehead! So when the Botox wears off I really can't stand it.

Optic only looks weird if it completely freezes your face or over lifts your brows. Filler can look weird because it can change the shape of your face

If she's due a top up HER MUSCLES ARENT PARALYSED ANY MORE.

Seriously you're talking utter shit.

It’s a fact and mentioned in medical journals that Botox may lead to facial flaccidity and sagging. Not just my personal observation. So go and take your angst out with them and stop trying to abuse me because you don’t like the truth. There’s even treatment to try and fix it soooooo??? Waiting for your garbage response. 😚

WhenWereYouUnderMe · 31/01/2024 21:00

Botox doesn't pump up and balloon the skin; that's fillers.

It stretches it and it doesn’t snap back as tight as it was before.

If what you say is true (and people can judge from your posts how reliable a narrator you are), then she gets fillers, not Botox, and it seems they make a significant difference so it's not hard to see why.

Not your thing, fair enough, but poor girl, having to work with someone who is so horrible about her looks. Don't think I'll be taking morality lessons about What Really Matters from you.

Yes, it is. Go to a proper medical professional, though.

People aren't triggered, despite you being really nasty with your personal attacks, they're just correcting you because you're wrong @Stardancer89

Botox doesn't fix sagginess for starters, if this woman's forehead is literally melting down her face as you'd have us believe, a few muscle relaxing injections wouldn't make a whit of difference. Instead of doubling down and throwing insults around maybe just really think about what you're saying - it doesn't make any sense.

sounds more like fillers, botox doesn’t pump your face up 😀

Stretches the skin though which doesn’t snap back like it once did hence the saggy remark.

You’re making a lot of assumptions which suggests how rubbish a narrator you are. I’m telling you what I’ve seen and what I know and I’m not the only person to mention this. Didn’t realise I needed to use my A level English lit when discussing things on a bored woman’s website. Would a doctor’s piece in a cited medical journal prove you wrong? Unlikely as you come across as someone who likes to think they know everything when they DONT especially if someone has a different opinion. When challenged you then start to try and demonise me about ‘poor girl’. The poor girl is you. My friend is actually confident enough to admit the Botox helps …. But only for a while. So stop trying to make out I’m being mean when I’m just having my opinion and won’t be silenced by people who say I’m talking ‘garbage’ when the evidence out there also suggests saggy flaccid faces after Botox. It’s not me who made the words saggy up. It’s just the bitter truth that you seem to not like or appreciate. Doesn’t make it wrong. Just means you’re too ignorant to accept another POV and medical facts. You can find this journal at pubmed.ncbi.gov.

It's taken Stardancer a week and a half to discover the existence of PubMed but she still doesn't know how to use it and she's now decided that she's being abused when people point out her rambling, raging and really rather spiteful nonsense.

Isn't the Internet great? I've always wondered where it could go after the giddy heights of Nyan Cat and Shut Up Woman Get On My Horse.

You have mentioned that botox plumps, YOU ARE FACTUALLY WRONG.
Being told you are wrong when you are isn't abuse, you need to not take things so personally particularly when you are incorrect.

There is something known as 'botox fatigue' where a person has had so much for so long that the long term paralysis of the muscle can lead to sagging skin as the muscle hasn't been able to 'work out' making it flatter.

I can't believe you're a similar age to me and acting like a petulant teenager doubling down on being wrong.

She comes across as a prematurely bitter wrinkly who can't afford botox. 😂

A friend of mine does it, shes really good. I pay £160 for 3 areas only crows feet and above though. I also had tear trough fillers a couple of times, they look amazing but I have really sensitive skin so can look a bit battered for a while so I am debating whether to do it again, I suspect when they wear off I'll want them.

I have just had it so will go in 2 weeks for top up, I have one side that is a lot stronger than the other, also the top of my head doesn't take really well straight away so we are just tweaking it to get it right. It's only my 2nd time on my forehead, 3rd time for crows feet (which lasts absolutely ages)

It really looks natural and no one notices other than a few people my skin looked great.

This is what scares me. I have sensitive skin and am afraid I’ll develop a long lasting rash.

The botox didn't cause any reaction at all, even with my super sensitive skin, it was the tear trough fillers (I had it done separately before I had any botox). You couldn't really even see the injection sites half about half hour. My eyes were bruised and puffy, nothing a bit of make up couldn't resolve but more noticeable than the botox definitely.
