Botox is it worth it?

Im 50 and all of a sudden I have wrinkles and lines which are really aging, I also look like I’m permanently scowling or growling with collapsed eye brows. Also hate my 11 lines.

I just want to look like a fresher version of my self. Anyone relate? Did Botox fix it for you?

My husband says...

🙄🙄🙄🙄

Letsrunabath · 31/01/2024 08:06

I used to have it but decided at 55 I would stop and let nature take its course, my husband never knew so it was very light. I think it’s help hold back the years for me as I’ve very few deep wrinkles.

I’ve never mentioned mine to anyone in real life either.

I buy Elemis on EBay instead. Less maintenance.

TheOGCCL · 31/01/2024 08:27

Whether it’s worth it depends on how much lines and wrinkles upset you. There are lots of people happy to age naturally, who barely even bother with a skincare regime and ultimately we do all have to make peace with that.

There isn’t anything you can buy cream wise (or Frownies) that come close to the fresher look Botox gives you. It gets a bad rep because some people go too far, or have other stuff done like big lips so the whole face starts to look fake. Or keep using it to an age where it wouldn’t be possible to look like that naturally.

But done well in your thirties, forties, fifties, sixties, it’s just another way of holding back a few years, in a way nothing else can.

SisterAgatha · 31/01/2024 08:57

My mum told me she would never talk to me again if I “messed around with my face”

I have had my first Botox last month and she hasn’t noticed. No one has. Makes me wonder if it was worth it tbh 🤣 one friend said I looked bright today and that’s it!

I realise I need less in the 11’s, i want to keep a little more expression

chaosmaker · 31/01/2024 08:58

No, but then I'm someone who wouldn't inject something unnceccesary into my face to stop the muscles in it functioning.

LadyPoison · 31/01/2024 09:15

Absolutely love it until it stopped working on me!

NotObligedToArgueWithStrangers · 31/01/2024 09:27

Quite a few saying go for it, but don't overdo it. How do you know when you're overdoing it? This is my worry that I'd lose sight of what looks normal. Are there practitioners out there who will tell you when to stop, or are most just happy to take your money? How do you spot a good one from a bad one?

notlucreziaborgia · 31/01/2024 09:28

Love it. Got my top up tomorrow in fact. I pay £220 for two areas (East Anglia).

Would Botox help lift "hooded" eyelids?

Be very very careful if your eyelids are even slightly hooded. I went to a highly qualified and experienced practitioner and they got it wrong, I looked like something out of the Angry Birds game….Ive been better getting gentle fillers elsewhere on my face

It's a feminist issue for me. Just another way to take money, time and self esteem from women. Why the fuck spend so much of your resources trying to contort yourself into a fantasy version. Ever wonder why most men don't worry about this shit?

Well glad you dropped by this wholly irrelevant to you thread then!

Because we want to, we can, we can afford it, we like it, it makes us happy, we have agency and choice over our faces and bodies.

You know, the stuff feminism has provided us with.

So defensive... no choice is made in a vacuum.

You've been manipulated by this industry which seeks to take your £££ and nothing else.

Botanica · 31/01/2024 09:39

I'm mid 40s and resisted it so far as I'm worried it will make me less accepting of my true face and ultimately more unhappy when I haven't got it. It feels like once you start you'd need to continue, so am putting it off as long as I can.

CaramelEmporium · 31/01/2024 09:39

@Itsjustafly and @InAMess2023 would you mind sharing your NE recs please?

WhenWereYouUnderMe · 31/01/2024 09:41

Not defensive at all, it's just so fucking boring that every thread about Botox gets filled with this shit.

The OP asked about people's experiences, not their thoughts on the patriarchy.

wellydiver · 31/01/2024 09:41

So due to having thick, oily skin and having used tretinoin and high factor SPF for 25 years I don't actually have any lines or wrinkles at 46. Does Botox have any other benefits I could benefit from or is it just for relaxing lines?

I've been accused of using botox due to my lack of lines so if it could actually do something for me then why not!

Whatever. I just feel sorry for you.

Hahaha well you know...you do you love.

Waitingfordoggo · 31/01/2024 09:44

I have a question- what difference (if any) can Botox make on a face that has a fair few static wrinkles? I have noticeable 11s that are always there and a few lines on my forehead which, again, are always there (albeit faint). I’ve read that Botox helps with the lighter lines but can’t change the deeper ones. So does it do nothing at all for the deep lines or does it at least smooth them a little bit?

No problem - I go to Teesside Aesthetics in Middlesbrough (if you book make sure it's with Helen). Don't be put off by their low prices - I was recommended by a friend who's been going for years. Also just a note if you do book, be prepared for a long wait - they're not the most organised but it is definitely worth it!
