Everyday bag for under £2k

buckingmad · 29/01/2024 00:48

It’s my 30th and I’d like a nice everyday bag. Thinking something along the lines of a Mulberry Lily in brown or black with gold hardware but open to other suggestions. I want something classic and easy to throw on as often rushing around after young children! Big enough to put my phone, keys and a lipstick/small perfume.

Suggestions please!

@RockaLock but the comment wasn't nasty. The OP's reply was bitchy.

How on earth was it bitchy? She didn't insult anyone. She just made the exact crack you should make when someone tries to tear you down. "Did you mean to wear such a short dress?" "Ooh no, thank you, it's not what I wanted, I'll hack three more inches off."

pepperminticecream it’s my opinion and I’m entitled to share it on mumsnet
it wasn’t meant as rude but it’s up to you how you take it

hotpotlover · 29/01/2024 22:31

2k for a bag is definitely a rip off and you end up paying so much for the brand rather than quality.

That being said, it is the OP's choice to spend that much. It's also good for the economy when people spend money.

Not quite the same as Gucci and LV but Fairfax & Favor do some lovely bags for just a few hundred and are a bit more exclusive and unknown than the big names. I’m currently loving my Windsor, it’s gorgeous.

I love this. Is it secure enough, with just the small flap at the top?

FruitBat53 · 29/01/2024 22:35

I've got a Mulberry zipped bayswater and absolutely love it. I went for the oxblood colour as it goes with everything. Think it was about £1300 and £300 for the matching purse.

Datingquez · 29/01/2024 22:36

hotpotlover totally agree

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 29/01/2024 22:40

Ooh thank you! You’ve now got me looking at LV Diane bags and have also introduced me to Polene… 🤪

You did mean to be rude, you meant to belittle OP and to act as if you are smarter than her because you would never spend that amount on a handbag.

For whatever reason OP having the means and desire to buy an expensive handbag struck a nerve with you and instead of moving along from the thread, you decided to put her down with a nasty remark about how she isn't smart.

Supermarkets have plenty of bags for £20-30.

I got a nice small day bag for under £20 from Mountain Warehouse. Plenty of pockets, waterproof. Nice colour too.

Or as Swordtoflamethrower writes - pockets.

Each to their own but £2000……. That’d keep my Church’s foodbank going for a couple of months, reroof about a quarter of my son’s house’s roof.

Why would OP want to reroof your son’s house? Although the charity thing is predictable, at least you can make an argument for it. Objecting to OP spending her own money on herself rather than on home improvements for your son is a new one though 😂

I haven't Alexa in pink, love love that bag.. and everyone stops to look. Mind you it's bright pink!

I'm tempted to get a mini in the oxblood too.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 29/01/2024 22:45

I wish they'd bring the Roxanne back.

StSwithinsDay · 29/01/2024 22:45

I go to Paris regularly and often go to the Polene shop. I always hope I will find one I like but they just don't float my boat.

I've had my Bayswater for over 10 years. I doubt a supermarket bag will last me that long.

Comments like this are such a self-own. Envy, pride and sanctimony, pretending to be virtue.

Do you have a link for the bag?

I haven't found one that I like either. I have heard mixed things about the quality too.

If I was going for that price range I would do something from Demellier or Strathberry. I have tote from Demellier that has held up well and a bag from Strathberry that is just so beautiful.

@chocolatesaltyballs22

It's not the £2k it's the everyday bit, I destroy my bags in under 2 years, no matter the brand! My everyday bag is currently from a stall in Greenwich market, hand made, 18 months a day counting but beginning to look tatty

Toomuchleopard · 29/01/2024 22:56

@buckingmad i have a mini Alexa in maple. I absolutely love it as a summer bag and I use it on holiday all the time but it’s not really big enough as an every day bag. One of the reasons I like it is it sits really nicely with the cross
body strap on your body whereas the big Alexa doesn’t as it is too big. What I’m saying is it is definitely worth going to try on in a shop to get an idea of size and how it fits on you. Luckily I live close to a big Selfridges which is handy for trying out bags!

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 29/01/2024 22:58

And now you’ve all got me buying cashmere scarves on the Strathberry site (nb sale ends in 9 hrs…)
OP wishing you a happy 30th - I’m busy spending even if you don’t find anything 🙃😂

Do you always go through life buying the cheap stuff? Cheapest old car you can find that works. Cheap shoes. Cheap mass produced foods. Cheap clothing Ugh. What an unfortunate life”

No. But I appreciate value. Our income puts us in the top 10% but I abhor waste and would rather use our “fortune” wisely.

Most of our shoes were hand made in London 30 years ago. That’s why I know that anyone spending £2k on almost all of the brands mentioned on this thread is wasting their money on inferior quality goods.
