Have had the exfoliated, moisturised and slender baton passed to me tonight so here is the new thread as requested!
Hmmmm, I think the rules are:

  • Early bed, by 10.30pm if poss
  • staying off booze if possible, weekends exempt
  • Five a day and a healthy diet
  • Exercise - lots of us are ignoring using an Omron pedometer to attempt a good number of steps
  • Loving our trotters, most of us use Flexitol and a chisel
  • Taking care of our skin with 2l of water a day and a skincare routine (Liz Earle and Eve Lom high on many lists)
  • Staying happy

Welcome Iamdingdong, I saw you trundling through the Alps with Eric Sykes this afternoon (slacker's confession time, ds, dd and I watched Monte Carlo or Bust ) and all other newcomers

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend and is ready to wrestle Holy Week kicking and screaming to the ground until it begs for mercy!

Marina - Sound advice! The thing that's narking me most, I think, is that ours is a truly inner-city street in the sense that there is rubbish blowing up and down it and bits of furniture dumped on the pavement and so forth (don't you all wish you lived here?), and i do find myself tutting and picking up flyers from the turkish takeaway from the street sometimes ... so the idea that a few magnolia petals (they're the biggish, fleshy ones) could induce such ire is odd as odd. Not to mention the sub-issue of why the neighbour didn't knock on the door and ask me to do something about the petals instead of graffiti-ing the pavement ...

The other thing that's weirding me out is that it's done in such neat writing. My mother's a primary school teacher, and it reminds me of her blackboard writing - v carefully formed letters, equally spaced, for ease of reading. Odd-arama. DP has made me promise to leave it until he gets home (though I am experiencing real Margo-from-the-Good-Life shame) so he can have a look. He thinks it's hilarious. On the plus side, I am nicely distracted from impending Birth of Child.

oooh sobernow, that veg bake sounds delicious. Am salivating. Wine sounds delicious too

TheHonEnid · 18/03/2008 15:37

oooh its nice here

this is where everyone I know is

[looks round approvingly]

cant reeeeeeeely join though as have just bought a bottle of red and will almost certainly end up opening it tonight. But I have been abstaining during the week for the last few weeks [pleading]

Can I substitute Flexitol with body brushing? My feet are fine but my skin is all grey and pimply.

marina · 18/03/2008 15:54

Oh enid, do you even have to ask? Bundle was so hungover she couldn't move for a day last week. Bodybrushing? Red wine? You're in.
LAS, could you have been Banksyed do you think? Super-neat writing sounds somewhat prankish.

pmsl enid - a bottle of wine is SUCCESS! There are some very committed bootcampers, and some major failures (me), but is good place to hang out! It's our micro-community (this is what MN used to be like!).

LoveAndSqualor · 18/03/2008 18:38

Marina, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that we are in prank world, I agree - quite taken with the idea that we are the victims (performers?) in a piece of north-east London installation art. Another week of up-duff and I can see myself joining in, daubing slogans on the neighbours' front doors while they're out at work, cackling in a madwomanish fashion ...

On the subject of pregnancy/bootcamping, batters, am blushing at compliment - now watch the halo slip - how much fizzy booze do you think it's reasonable to drink when you go over your due date? A glass? A bottle? A case? Shurely nothing I do can have any effect on the young man at this point I'm thinking if he doesn't like the taste he might be encouraged to move out

Prufrock · 18/03/2008 18:39

That's nothing bundle. I counted 11 bottles from an afternnon/dinner for just 4 of us a few weeks ago. . And hnagovers of any sort seem to last all day for me now, even if I've only had one bottle of wine.
welcome to dingdong and momma. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but babywipes are terrible for your skin - they have alcohol on them so that the liquid evaporates, which dries your skin terribly. if you must use them, make sure you slather ona decent cream to couonteract the drying effect.
duch - is the raw carrot a pregnancy thing or have you always been such a rabbit?

L&S Rude definately. Good luck for Thursday. Lots of sex, pineapple and nipple tweaking.

Come on in Enid. I body brush every morning now and am a complete convert - it wakes me up and skin is definately smoother

TheDuchyEggOfNorksBride · 18/03/2008 19:11

arf @ sobernows 'Lament of the Chateau...'!

Hello Enid. Can you & Pru divulge your body brushing details pls?

L&S - pregnancy is crap. I've been 7 days early and 10 days late and I know which I preferred! And yes to doing 'officious neighbour' re the magnolia!

batters - how was SS? DH didn't sleep with the dog, but should have, because he came home empty handed and then worked until 5am so I didn't get a massage either. [miffed] And agree with L&S that our halo's will be in the dirt in a few months time.

pru - carrots are my pregnancy craving. At least they're healthier than Haagen Dazs and less scary than coal.

Measly 7000 steps today, spent too much time at schools (pre-sch cake sale and Road Safety Training at primary - the obligatory reflective jacket is not going to fit for much longer, they'll have to cover me with luminous hedgehog stickers instead).

I've eaten cereal, ham & coleslaw sandwich, mini-egg Easter cake, raw carrots!, pasta bolognese with grated cheddar, orange. Not enough water as have run out and our tap water is vile. I'd like more fruit too but there is only enough for tomorrows school lunches. The Noble Knight Ocado is coming in the morning though.

Everything else sadly neglected. Hoping for massage tonight as backache is v. bad. But DH currently on phone yelling talking to US colleagues so I think he's in for another long night.

iamdingdong · 18/03/2008 19:14

evening ladies, have had an odd evening so far, which would usually result in at least one glass of wine, but have managed to abstain (but I do realise its rather early to say that with confidence!) I got home from work having picked DTs up from nursery, knowing DH would be late home, and found I had no house keys on me so had to drive the 40 mile round trip to get his key and ended up buying DTs a happy meal on the way back to save time, stress and effort - on the plus side I rsisted the temptation to stuff my own face [virtuous] so have had coffee, juice, muesli, 2 clementines, shepherds pie, carrots and yoghurt at work and a salad in place of the burger but still not enough water...I can also join in the getting work to see things my way successes, having got them to agree to 4 days spread over 5 from Sept so I can do morning school runs and some afternoons too, so v happy about that, but need it writing before I celebrate

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 18/03/2008 19:15

Bloody hell you lot can waffle.

Re bootcamp. An stressed (blame Ofsted) but otherwise OK, even on the exercise.....and the feet, but not the water. Have two week Easter break from Thursday though so have much to look forward to.

Enid - I'm sure you're red wine will be fine. I'm on the whisky. I asked further down if it was a suitable alternative. No-one said no so I took it that it was OK. Does body brushing really work ?- it seems like so much effort.

Hello to dongdong and momma.

L&S - you have odd neighbours. I'd chalk alongside 'If you have nothing better to do than write messages on the pavement why don't you sweep them up yourself?' Good luck for the impending delivery.

Bundle must still be in bed lol!

iamdingdong · 18/03/2008 19:16

could do with improving my punctuation

iamdingdong · 18/03/2008 19:19

ofsted sympathy for you saggars, are they in now or imminent?

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 18/03/2008 19:19

Here now .

iamdingdong · 18/03/2008 19:31

oh dear we had them the penultimate week of the Christmas term - mean and evil! On the plus side, they'll be gone in time for you to enjoy the hols and the summer term! my hols don't start for another 2 weeks, April 4, but its nice to have the long weekend before that

ChutneyMary · 18/03/2008 19:38

Another flying visit from me.... hope all are well and very impressed by all the negotiating going on with jobs. I am sadly not at all indispensible so daren't even try.

Welcome Momma, Ding Dong and enid, good to have you on board.

L&S, I went over and the consultant suggested lobster and champagne. Apparently lobster has something in it which gets you going and the champagne was to ease the disappointment if it was unsuccessful. She also suggested sex, but by the time I was 10 days over, I said i'd rather wait! All power to you if you can face it. I don't think a couple of glasses of cava would do any harm now, but other more sober bootcampers (and the rest of MN and possibly the world) may disagree.

Too long in the car today. Too shouty in B and Q at errant DD1 who ran off, causing heart failure and was later found playing in the shower aisle. She enjoyed playing with the buttons and knobs but how I shouted. Not one of my finest moments.

Am off to finish some work now. DH out, so am debating a delicacy for dinner. Sadly had a huge salmon bagel for lunch so feeling a bit porky.

Is it easter yet - my lenten penance of no crisps is SO hard.

See you anon.

foxinsocks · 18/03/2008 19:47

I am lololol at 'officious neighbour' lolol. How hysterical that anyone could even be offended enough by your magnolia to chalk the pavement!

I haven't posted on here for months I think! Am now at work full time which is a bit mad but OK. Actually, surprisingly easier (work wise) than part time in many ways (though I never thought I'd say that).

Although home wise , we have the builders in doing the kitchen (they are taking AGES, largely our fault because we infected them all with the vile vomiting bug) and I got home at 7ish to find tired kids and absolutely NO food in the house because dh, on his day off (Monday), had managed to spend the ENTIRE day obviously not noticing there was no food arrghhh. The washing up is all stacked up in the bath and dh and I have been silent about the matter, as if both of us are hoping the dishwashing fairy might visit.

I daren't even tick off the 10/10 things but I have lost weight, largely from commuting (lots of walking) and not having access to a fridge full of stuff from M&S all day

foxinsocks · 18/03/2008 19:49

although the working has aged me 10 years, definitely. And the bags under my eyes, have their own bags who have their own bags. Like grandchildren bags.

Glad to see all of you on here still!

TheDuchyEggOfNorksBride · 18/03/2008 19:59

Welcome back FIS. Sorry about the kitchen, our house is beginning to fall apart round our ears but I can't face having work done whilst the children are small etc. But think how nice it'll be when it's finished.

Chutney - will Good Friday do? Or are you going to stick the no-crisps out until Sunday?

TheHonEnid · 18/03/2008 20:04

congratulations on new job foxy! Is it 'new' or extended hours at 'old' job?

Am about to open wine- have just cracked and yelled at dd1 over her reading (voice in back of head says that probably isn't the best way to encourage reluctant reader...)

Have bought Body Brush from Boots - I am planning to brush entire body in long strokes before shower every morning. Then to apply moisturiser (nivea one with a bit of glow in it) in desperate attempt to enliven pasty, slightly blue, skin.

Have done almost no exercise today apart from stoically trudging round Sainsbos.

Supper is Sainsburys sausages with chili in them, with a bit of couscous, spinach and a red pepper and tomato 'stew' that I cooked up during the dds supper.

Is it too much to ask to want to lose half a stone and become brown and much younger by Easter Saturday when getting together with my family?

Thought so.

unknownrebelbang · 18/03/2008 20:11

Hello everyone.

First day of my holiday and I feel yuck, but I guess it's self-inflicted from all the junk I ate at the weekend, tbh.

  • Early bed, midnightish last night, although had very little sleep.
  • No booze.
  • Five a day and a healthy diet. I've stuck to toast today.
  • Exercise - walk home from school.
  • Loving our trotters, lax.
  • Taking care of our skin with 2l of water a day and a skincare routine - done!
  • Staying happy. Well, at least I'm not in work!

Been looking at the weather for Holland next week, and snow is forecast for three days . Never mind, it'll be cosy in that teeny two-bed caravan which seemed such a good idea when we booked it, lol.

foxinsocks · 18/03/2008 20:11

it's extended hours at old job which is probably why it's easier as the part time was a ruse really and was full time in less hours iyswim

Many sympathies on the dd1 front. Oh it is so tiresome all this school stuff isn't it. I have lost the will with dd and her school work I'm afraid. I go through weeks where I think I really must get her to make an effort and then weeks where I think, oh fuck it. She'll get there in the end .

Now browner we can do I reckon. Half a stone, hmmmm
