The sale/full price conundrum, it’s a tricky business! I used to buy most things in sales (Toast and not) and I definitely got some excellent deals but I also had a wardrobe full of random pieces that were lively by themselves but didn’t necessarily play well with others. During the last 5 years or so I buy far more full price things but my overall spend, while still a lot, is down overall.

I’m trying to be a grown up 😒 so now I keep an ongoing wish list which at least provides a bit of focus for sales. Totally can’t wait for the next Toast one - I reckon the Thursday before Christmas.

Countmeout · 01/12/2023 06:14

Who’s good at predicting what will go into sale? I am generally hopeless. Quite often buy something that then goes into sale which is irritating.

One of my parcels has taken a detour to Chester yesterday so is unlikely to make it here today and then I am away until Tuesday. I think it might be the Maeve.

I recently discovered Toast while on a brief visit to Landeilo and my dh bought the linen tunic dress for me as I 😮 at the price! I’ve ordered a couple of things in the sale but am expecting to send them back-however, I have also ordered the Gabi cords and the raspberry candlesticks! The nice things in the sale seemed to go very quickly and had disappeared by the time I got home to use my card. But am a bit hooked now. Am very tempted to buy a beautiful jumper-but do they go into the end of year sale? Is it worth buying now or shall I wait?

MsDastardley · 01/12/2023 08:23

@Saurus72 I agree. I went a bit mad after I lost weight a few years ago, but I think my style has settled a bit now. I’ve become a bit more adventurous too. I’ve sold a lot of my early buys on eBay.

If I see something I absolutely love then I will buy full price. I bought the Dotty and Bryn dresses, and even though it was towards the end of summer I’ve worn them loads. I’m glad I did as I think they have both sold out in my size in colour I liked. I bought this seasons denim skirt, and that has been a better buy than my sale bargains as it’s a slimmer cut and suits me much better. I’ve also worn that loads.

I am trying to be more considered now, both sale and full price, as I don’t really need much. I’m not doing that well though!

I’ve bought a lot from Brora over last few years, almost all in the sale. My list for this year is quite small now, as I don’t need a lot. I like a lot of their stuff, but find they repeat same designs in different colours and fabrics, so you only need so much.

Stoic123 · 01/12/2023 08:43

@MrsRachelDanvers - jumpers do go on sale but mostly in late March (at least that's what my buying history shows). End of year sale last year tended to have the summer knitwear - the cotton linen jumpers. For the Lofty Yokes and Mohairs, my guess would be late March. All of this is subject to Toast's whim.

Sale stuff goes quickly but a lot of returns are added as people order multiples to try on - so do regularly check in.

Countmeout · 01/12/2023 11:36

Well it wasn’t the Maeve that did the detour to Chester. It arrived. Both colours. I really like the shape but neither colour did anything for me. Nice fabric light enough for holiday. The green brown was too brown (dark) for me and the mango made me look washed out. Too much of the green pattern. I would buy this shape of dress again as the fit was good but in some other material.

Vejas perfect, sized up as a round toe is uncomfortable so pleased with these. I’m not unhappy as it gives me more spending money for London this weekend.

@Countmeout thanks for the new thread.

Have been away on business all week and just home so will open my sole sale purchase shortly and see if it fits and works.

Have enjoyed catching up on all of your sale purchase successes and misses.

OftenOrange · 01/12/2023 12:52

@Countmeout I imagine that a lot of people found the Maeve colourways difficult to wear . Although orange is one of my best colours , apricot / peachy tones I find really washing out . Hope that the Summer will bring some interesting colours and fabrics.
I have the Maeve skirt from the last sale ,I can see that it’s going to be tricky to pair with my existing Summer tops .

faustina · 01/12/2023 14:00

@MrsRachelDanvers - mind you, they did have a thing last year where the current fair isle jumpers were all discounted (I think it was last year?)

They are definitely restocking the sale because a jumper I had in my basket which disappeared, reappeared today so I have ordered it to try - it's the mole recycled cashmere

I've kept the clogs and sent everything else back

Noeggsontoast · 01/12/2023 14:26

Well the asymmetric Ikat top is going back. So loved this but didn't do me any favours at all in real life. Didn't sit properly, flared far too much. Itch scratched. So no purchases in this sale. Now to wait to the Christmas one where hopefully a couple of the items I'd like are included.

PretLea · 01/12/2023 15:27

Thanks @Countmeout for the new thread.

I had three parcels arrive, including the poppy dress (terrible around my broad shoulders) and the navy tee (neckline really shabby), amongst a few other items. I’ve only kept the Annie ecru jeans, which I’m sure will be useful in Spring.

Dee1224 · 01/12/2023 15:42

Hi, I am sending back the clogs - they were lovely and tts but hurt the soles of my feet even more than they did yesterday- quite sad about that😟

I quite liked the poppies crepe dress and it was surprisingly flattering, (my sister loathed it when she tried it; it’s definitely a marmite kind of item!) However, it’s going back as the sleeves were far too short. I only have short arms, but these were ridiculous. The description says ‘sleeves regular length’ - no, they aren’t!

The trapeze in small was far too small, (whereas I returned the medium in summer sale for being too big). I really really hope I haven’t put that much weight on 😱

Just sent DH off to the PO, (just managed to catch him going off to the post with the parcels, but without the labels and with my address still on there, but that’s another story…)

mizu · 01/12/2023 19:02

Shame about the clogs @Dee1224 but they've got to be comfortable!

Dee1224 · 01/12/2023 19:23

I can’t afford another clog error @mizu 🥲

faustina · 01/12/2023 20:15

@Dee1224 - big sympathy and complete understanding about not wishing to make clog errors. I have quite a few of them in my wardrobe! I tried on the flat kitty clogs once and they were so so uncomfortable and I have some from Lotta from Stockholm - less painful but still not great.. I could go on ! For some reason the high ones seem ok on me. I tried them again this morning with thin socks and it felt like they were worth keeping! I hope there's something nice that you found worth keeping to make up for it?

Dee1224 · 01/12/2023 20:41

I was sorry to let them go @faustina - that was all I ordered and I wasn’t unhappy about sending it all back, (but at least it was only three things).

Saving myself for the Xmas sale now 🤞

faustina · 01/12/2023 20:44

I'm already getting sale emails from other brands ( a bit depressingly soon after Black Friday!). Hope you find something you love in the proper sale!

Dee1224 · 02/12/2023 13:37

Thanks @faustina - better for my cc anyway, (and I am supposed to be on a diet…so maybe I feel better about clothes shopping 🤞

ToastCosILoveIt · 02/12/2023 17:38

So most of my sale stuff is going back, a first for me. I don’t know whether it is because i have already bought all of the bits I love or the glass is slightly fading on my Toast love, or a bit of both, probably the latter.

The denim jumpsuit in 10 and 12, both fit but too bulky and cut revealingly at the top for me to be wearing in weather that allows for strappy tops. The cotton linen peacoat in a small was still very oversized. I would have kept it if i had loved it more but it didn’t wow me and perhaps the current cold snap isn’t the best weather for trying it on.

The random rice spoon i bought for my daughter is going back: not great quality and does she really need another rice spoon…?!

I kept the Flora Check Seersucker dress in a 12 after deliberation and having tried a 10 too. Both fitted but I preferred the looser sit of the 12 on top but will probably need to get it altered to remove a bit of the volume in the back. At £55 and a beautiful dress, I think it worth it though.

I also kept the Garment Dyed Pinafore Jumpsuit in bottle green in a large. A preposterously generous size for my neat 12 frame but you really need to size up just to get the bust size in, even with a moderate boobage (and having had a breast reduction): crazy. Again, I may get it slightly altered, pulling up the straps a little so that it is less skimpy on the back and around the arms.

I am also sending the Dip Dye Silk Dress in green back. It is too big and too flimsy for me.

So, an odd sale, not much ‘new’ stuff in it, plenty of rehashing of past sales. Toast, give us loyal customers a sale with impact (and a 20% off as a sweetener for spending literally £1000s with you each year).

In other news I popped into the Margaret Howell sale shop on Margaret Street on Thursday and picked up a couple of cashmere beanie hats (£40 each) and some wool gloves. There were other things to tempt me, including a wonderful wool kilt but it was still £375 and so I passed in the end.

Hope everyone else is enjoying their sale purchases or living vicariously through the joy of good Toast buys on here.

Popplebop · 03/12/2023 08:14

Well my sale Pond is going back (second time of trying the dress). Just not for me. The denim jumpsuit with the drawstring waist is however an unexpected keeper and I kept it on yesterday after trying it with a polo neck so really pleased. The legs are full length on me but great with boots/winter shoes. I did a quick return via the post office as well so fingers crossed for a quick journey back to Toast!

Firesideknitting · 03/12/2023 15:16

Just had a last minute check on sale and ordered the molloy dress in a hope it will be alright for summer …. Not sure if the colour is me, but will find out …

Brackenfield · 03/12/2023 16:22

Bought a lot of trousers, mainly to try out sizings and styles, I never found their trousers (linen ones aside) suited me but following the success of the Gabbis I thought I'd retry.

All fit well and suit, but only keeping the mariner hemp cotton ones, love the Prince of Wales check ones as well but can't justify both pre Christmas.

Also got the smocked gingham top in bark which I love, and goes well with the trousers so that's how I'm justifying it 😅

I always ditcher over these "past season" sales, can never bring myself to buy summery stuff in the depths of winter but I'll probably be kicking myself when I want the shorts come May/June at full price 🙄

Stoic123 · 03/12/2023 16:28

@Popplebop - I have been sitting on my hands to stop myself trying Pond again. The seams on the one I tried were fine (some have had problems) and the style suits. I also love the material.

The colour just washes me out. I could it wear with a top/jumper over it but I would be buying it to wear in hot weather. I like the pattern so don't want to dye it. Hope it reappears in richer/deeper colours.

MrsRachelDanvers · 03/12/2023 17:54

I’m keeping the easy linen dress-beautiful cut and weight-looks very classy. Pierrot collar shirt horrid. And Gabi cords a bit meh for the price.

Popplebop · 03/12/2023 18:26

@Stoic123 i agree - I still really love the dress style but it is the colour. Despite trying it twice it is still a no (sadly!). Seams and gathering all fine on the one I had - I did check as well- but it just wasn’t quite right.
