I always find the Mayfair branch devoid of stock and with the most unfriendly (sometimes downright sneery) assistants.

Islington is my favourite, but they seem to have given over a lot of space to the men's collection (and each time I've been in, there have been so many women customers, and no men - doesn't make much sense to me).

I do also like Marylebone, and used to find it really well stocked (sometimes bursting with stock) - but the last time I was there, there was hardly anything out at all. Yet strangely when one of the assistants opened the stockroom door, you could see it was piled high with quantities of lovely stuff. Surely they can't expect every customer to know what to ask for? It's such a strange way to run a business - hide all the stock unless the customer somehow knows exactly what they want.

OftenOrange · 11/12/2023 16:19

@FiddleFigs Absolutely, the Islington store was always my favourite and nearest ,but the menswear has taken over the front of the shop . I also appreciated the nice roomy fitting rooms , but now it’s a couple of curtained off alcoves in the main store .
I wish that they would go back to a separate menswear store , though my younger friends think I’m non pc for preferring segregation for certain things !

Having said all that I still enjoy popping in and looking at all the pretty things.

Countmeout · 11/12/2023 16:54

Shoreditch also had men’s stuff at the front when I was in last weekend. It’s was initially a bit confusing . I think their merchandising strategy is not to over load the rails . It’s all in the stockroom I’m almost sure.
was fortunate in Mayfair where the assistant was really helpful particularly giving advice about the new sizing. It was probably the best experience I’ve had in any store on the rare occasion I am able to go to one. Mind you I was the only customer and he was the only assistant. Tge changing rooms were more generous too. Shoreditch changing rooms are dreadful-so tight.

I think we met the same assistant @Countmeout. He was lovely, I thought, very helpful.

OftenOrange · 11/12/2023 21:57

@Countmeout I know , I hate these tight little fitting rooms , false economy in behalf of Toast .
It did start as mail order so I suppose that is the mainstay.

Snowyowl78 · 12/12/2023 01:27

Anyone watching Vigil? I think Rose Leslie has a Toast jacket and a Bleu De Chauffe bag in episode 2

@Snowyowl78 a colleague popped her head into my staffroom yesterday and said she'd seen one of my TOAST jumpers on Vigil in episode 1 😁 and yes, Rose is wearing the olive donegal for the entire episode.

lordloveadog · 12/12/2023 07:48

Has anyone started the new series of Slow Horses? I really want the outfit the woman in the first scenes of episode 1 is wearing! I feel like it ought to be toast, but it isn't.

Snowyowl78 · 12/12/2023 08:04

@mizu oh yes I thought that was a Donegal as well! I wonder what she’ll wear next!

mizu · 12/12/2023 14:41

@lordloveadog love Slow Horses. Haven't seen any TOAST but yes, know what you mean.

No1Mousie · 12/12/2023 15:36

Yes! The character called Shirley? I loved those trousers.

cathyandclaire · 12/12/2023 16:09

Hello Toasties- newbie here! Can I sneak in to ask a question? Dd likes a ferociously expensive coat, does the sale start before Xmas typically and are there ever voucher codes? Or am I a naive fool for even asking?

Stoic123 · 12/12/2023 17:25

@cathyandclaire - voucher codes are very rare.

The December sale normally starts before Christmas but after the last posting date - so won't arrive in time for Christmas. Not everything goes into the midwinter sale, quite a bit waits till March. I'm not sure whether coats go on sale in December or March normally. Hopefully others can advise.

cathyandclaire · 12/12/2023 17:28

Thanks so much for replying. I'm in London until the 21st so could go in store , but not sure if I've got the nerve!

Stoic123 · 12/12/2023 17:33

@cathyandclaire - ha, it's not that bad. Which one does your daughter like?

Stores don't tend to carry that much stock (except Notting Hill) so worth ringing ahead.

Snowyowl78 · 12/12/2023 17:55

@cathyandclaire i don’t think they do the sale in stores at all. I bought a coat in March massive discount like half price, still really expensive. I don’t think it went into the Dec sale which is why I didn’t buy til March and have only just started wearing it

Countmeout · 12/12/2023 17:57

I don’t think the proper winter coats go on sale this time. Is there a sale on in shops or is it all online , someone who has access to a shop could tell.

OP posts:
Stoic123 · 12/12/2023 17:58

Yes - sorry, sale won't be in store. Will be full price if bought in store.

AmethystMoonShine · 12/12/2023 20:07

Yes, the sales have been on line only for a few years now if I remember correctly. I think they like to avoid the messiness of sales in their beautifully curated shops Xmas Grin

lordloveadog · 12/12/2023 22:59

I'm toying with trying the v-neck cotton jumpsuit. The reviews all say it has a low crotch and is voluminous on the hips. That seems hopeful as jumpsuits never usually work on me because I'm very long in the body and generously hipped. Has anyone tried it?

From the sale I ended up sending a linen dress back. It fitted nicely but was drab. Also black voile dress was nice but see-through and only useful as beach cover up, which I already have.

Kept the Indigo Stripe Organic Cotton Trousers, which were fun and flattering. And that dressing gown with the fish on it, which was immediately nabbed by one of my teenagers, who will be allowed to keep it if he does all his chores without reminding until Christmas. Also two tshirts. Can't wear any of it until go on holiday after Christmas but am very pleased with the haul.

And in the meantime loving having plenty of nice clothes for the season, which I've never had before. So nice with options and not having to wash a few things immediately.

Snowyowl78 · 13/12/2023 05:29

@lordloveadog yes I have it! It’s great so comfy. It’s a bit hard to get on and off without undoing the top button. Nobody else has complained about this must just be me! I managed to rip the V and had to get it repaired. It does have a low crotch and it’s roomy. Be careful with washing as it’s faded a fair bit, I have a black dye in the cupboard that I was planning to use but I think I probably have to remove and resew the buttons and I’ve been too lazy so far!

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 13/12/2023 11:42

Just received a rather lovely Christmas card from Toast kindred Xmas Smile

Saurus72 · 13/12/2023 13:32

Me too @Theteapotsbrokenspout ! Wouldn’t it be lovely if they had included a little discount code?!?

Saurus72 · 13/12/2023 13:37

Oh! Also, there’s new stock on the website!
