@Snowyowl78 the embroidered dress is a beaut, what have your other Toastie sale buys been? (Living vicariously etc etc). I’ve been very restrained this sale - just this dress and a little pouch. I bought 3 dresses late summer/early autumn and nothing since, so there’s space for a new one. I’m erring towards keeping it I think, £85 is a good price and my Toast dresses are work horses.

Alpacasoft · 05/01/2024 13:40

Oh exciting!

There are a few new names, can we have a clue as to you are?

Yes agree @Alpacasoft .

My leach bowls are now on their way too yay!

@Countmeout @Alpacasoft I’m not sure if I’m included in this message but just in case, I’m a name-change oldie. You may remember me as SmaugMum? Apologies for any confusion, I don’t think I did the courteous thing of clarifying my new ID. I post on other, more sensitive, forums and I like to try to keep my identity as private as I can.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 05/01/2024 14:32

@Saurus72 I think the Greta looks lovely on you. I've seen quite a few of your posts trying on dresses and you have a really good eye for what suits you.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 05/01/2024 14:41

Has anyone bought this from the new drop? It looks as if it could gape slightly from one of the photos, but a review suggested it fits a bigger bust ok. I hate buying something lovely only to find it can't accommodate my bust.

@Saurus72 I think you look lovely in it.

oddandelsewhere · 05/01/2024 14:55

@spaceport@Alpacasoft @Countmeout I am so sorry I haven't got a clue where spaceport came from, but I also haven't got a clue as to how to edit it!
I haven't changed my name, I just don't post very often but I have always had this name. The last time I posted was probably when I was looking for a raincoat earlier in the winter and everyone was super helpful. In the meantime I always read about all the things everyone has been buying, and buying some myself but recently often returning them because newer Toast things don't seem to suit me so well. I am however delighted with the charcoal and ivory gingham boat neck dress in the sale.
I just need some warmer weather.

Snowyowl78 · 05/01/2024 15:23

@Saurus72 too much! I bought the a-line coat and the alpaca tank from uniform Research so that was a big order. Then the embroidered dress, some Sturlini boots, the ochre scarf and the frill collar chambray shirt! I feel justified as it’s all different stuff and not e.g 5 dresses. Sort of!

Saurus72 · 05/01/2024 15:26

@Snowyowl78 Definitely investments you’ll be wearing for years. The Sturlini Chelsea boots looked fabulous, couldn’t justify but they’re on my wish list.

sonjadog · 05/01/2024 15:26

I also have had the same name all the time. I have posted on this thread occasionally for a good while now, but there are long periods when I am not on MN or just read posts. Not sure what else you would like to know? Obviously name and address are out, but if there is anything less identifying, ask away! :-D

D20 · 05/01/2024 15:31

Well the broidery dress finally arrived today (ordered on the 27th) and it’s perfect! I was worried about the colour but it’s not too dark and will be a good multi season dress - tried it on with combat boots and clogs. Being short in the body the placket is long enough that I can belt it to give a different look too.

Love the table gifts as well.

@Alpacasoft Yes agree re: preferring side view.

Thanks to everyone who has commented, still trying undecided so will see what OH thinks.

faustina · 05/01/2024 16:06

@Saurus72 - if you wear dresses all the time and you like it, keep it! Especially if you've been restrained in your buying. It looks really nice on you - and lovely with those boots.

@WhompingWillows - didn't realise you were Smaugmum - not that it matters though, and thank you for the heads up about the Leach Pottery/Seasalt thing. I did look there and they don't have anything at all at the moment, but the mixing bowls are definitely on my wishlist, and have been for some time

@agnesmartin - I have the cotton wool pull on trousers and I definitely plan to wear them outside, but I haven't yet as it's been so wet and horrible. I seem to have retreated into a jeans shaped hole of despair

@Dee1224 - I had a look in my local TKMaxx for your coat and no luck - sorry! If you fancy something a bit left-field, I bought this for DS1 for Christmas - the large was too large for him so we're still waiting for the right size, but I tried it on myself and loved it! It is unisex, warm and water-resistant - also pockets galore and very flattering I thought. If I didn't have too many coats myself I'd buy one too - especially as it's in the sale now:

Noodle421 · 05/01/2024 16:19

@Saurus72 you look fab in that dress. It really suits you.

I’m extremely happy with my tasselled Sturlini brogues (sale) and black derby shoes (pre sale). The quality of both pairs is exceptional. I thought the loafers felt a bit snug to start with but the leather softened a little as I tried them out in my bedroom. They look great with all my clothes. I highly recommend.

No1Mousie · 05/01/2024 16:34

@Noodle421 I’ve been sitting on my hands trying not to order the tasselled loafers!

Do you think the heel is quite narrow? I might take a punt if it is …

agnesmartin · 05/01/2024 16:40

Thanks @faustina !

Noodle421 · 05/01/2024 16:41

@ScottishMouse Hi - do you mean the heel that comes in contact with the ground or the bit of leather that actually houses your heel - what is your concern ? - sorry if I’m being a bit thick 😆

I’ve got a high instep and my heel usually lifts out of this style of shoe but this pair are ok atm. I might run into problems if the leather relaxes too much.

PretLea · 05/01/2024 16:49

I’m with you @Snowyowl78 - have overspent and yet, there are still more bits I would like 😂 (like trying the Greta in a size bigger than originally bought). The items I’ve kept have been on my wish list for a long time, and I’m really pleased with them.

Snowyowl78 · 05/01/2024 16:55

@PretLea mine were things I was holding out for so not unconsidered purchases so at least there’s that! What did you get?

btw Uniform research have an extra 10% on sale with code 10EXTRA now. Think a few a line coats left!

PretLea · 05/01/2024 17:16

@Snowyowl78 my big spends were the Donegal grid jacket, the parchment wide leg trousers and the batik dress, but also kept a few other items I’ve had my eye on. And then bought another few items when new bits were added, though not sure what I’ll be holding on to. All considered items like you, but just a big hit, to me at least.

Snowyowl78 · 05/01/2024 17:38

@PretLea nice! I want the batik but I’ve already spent too much!

PretLea · 05/01/2024 18:18

It’s a beautiful dress @Snowyowl78 but I guess it’s maybe about prioritising what we need/like best. Sounds like you’ve made some lovely purchases that you’d wear for a long time.

Alpacasoft · 05/01/2024 18:26

Apologies @Saurus72 my nordic bluntness/ openness showing .
I will rephrase
Perhaps try different under garments etc
I'm glad to see someone mentioning a slip.
I have a few and they do give a nice line particularly under the viscose dresses.

Stoic123 · 05/01/2024 18:35

@Saurus72 - you always rock a Toast dress. Totally keep if the colour suits skintone in RL (difficult tell on posted photo) and you've not spent/overstuffed your wardrobe too much lately.
