Bloody hell Red that was some find!!! Will now scroll back to
look.

banivani · 26/07/2024 09:42

Congratulations Red! After looking through a few pages (because the DVN dress sent me on the chase of herrings red) I have now copped on. Well done!!! I hope you get much joy out of the outfit ❤️ It’s what DVW would have wanted.

I have to ask a question, is deep red back or coming back? There’s a particular shade I like and wandering through the local mall yesterday (was returning shoes 🙄) I spotted this colour in H&M’s young section and then on a t-shirt in Åhléns. See link for colour example. This is my red, so I have my fingers crossed for some stocking up. If it still suits me with age :(

Welcome back stranger!

I am pretty sure you do this on purpose Bani, leaving us without notice and randomly re-appearing.

Not sure if that red is coming back but I have a ballerina top in that colour (but I tend to wear it on the autumn).
is anyone watching the opening ceremony (Olympics) later on? Some French designers outfits promises? Although I have something at the same time , so might catch up highlights later on .

botemp · 26/07/2024 14:59

It kind of looks like a dark raspberry red? I've definitely seen a bit of maroon around because there's a US collegiate/preppy revival and I'm guessing that won't really catch on until the leaves start falling. Red in general has been trending for a bit now and I haven't seen much of it in the sales so I assume it's been selling well which could lead the way for more reds in autumn? Haven't seen it worn as much though Confused

I'm usually not that into Olympic openings but I'll tune in if I can or catch highlights as the whole boat parade thing appeals to me. Never considered it for outfit watching, I did see Louis Vuitton made some naff cases for some trophies or maybe it was an Olympic torch?

On the subject of outfit watching, I've been thrilled in the last few days with news of Kamala Harris entering the race, beyond the obvious, it also means something other than boring mens' suits to see although I did get distracted by that Tifanny's necklace that looks like a chain of penises (penni?) she was wearing the other day (she seems to like a bit of statement jewellery). I'm just going to assume she's in on that joke and channeling some BDE.

Ahh!

So many thanks to give! This is what happens when one posts and then buggers off for a week.

@botemp thanks for the Rohè tip, looks promising. The three NW boutiques you linked to are places I know and go, but excellent detective work, you've done as well as I have but from a distance.

@Floisme, WHAT! I was wishing for somewhere like Pollyannas in my 'fantasy boutique land', my mother used to shop there and I'd go with her, Rita Britton's edit was amazing and utterly unique for South Yorkshire, or much of the North at that time, it survivedand prospered because affluent women from all over the region travelled to her, she was extraordinary in what she did and where.

Alicia Kites was for the young uns @Papyrophile I always used the fatal words 'c'mon Mum, let's just have a look', she's as much as a sucker for beautiful clothes as me.

I miss the boutique days!

Galiana · 26/07/2024 17:18

I'd say that's wine @banivani, I'd agree with @botemp that red in all its hues is going to carry through to Autumn. I'm hankering after wine coloured leather skirts and grey cashmere.

I must have picked it up from somewhere...

I'm over summer, the fields that back on to me are now stubble, my rowan tree is laden, it always feels a bit blowsy and done by this point in the year.

botemp · 26/07/2024 18:25

No, no, no, don't start on leather skirts. I'm lusting after this one from Khaite but my wallet is safe as no way would it work with my waist to hip ratio (even the runway model is struggling) and I want it in a rich brown that leans slightly reddish/burgundy with a bit of a lustre/depth iykwim. I've seen this one from Tove but I'm not entirely convinced. The Khaite is extortionate money but at least it looks like its price tag, the Tove feels a bit basic for the price instead of the lush quality of my imaginary perfect skirt.

As for grey cashmere, I spotted this in the NAP sale recently, which, come to think it would go nicely with one of those leather pillar skirts 🤔 I bought a different jumper from this brand last year that I've been really pleased with. I'm taking their whole sustainable/ethical spiel with a pinch of salt though.

Ah @botemp we are singing from the same hymsheet.

I bought the ARCH4 sweater already (it's good!) and just got a Toteme grey cashmere delivered today.

Loving the leather pillar skirts, I think they would work for me as I have no hips to speak of, I am pillar-shaped with a broad upper, but ooft, that's an investment. Colour-wise, that's what I'm after, sludgy burgundy. I was thinking more a-line midi, I love the pillar but my lifestyle is generally quite casual, I popped out for lunch today wearing a Jil Sander black maxi skirt, a cropped Jospeh sweater a pair of Chloè clogs and electric blue sheer socks. That's considered to be quite outrè in these parts.

I know the skirt would look amazing, for the three times I wore it. Can't do it!

Papyrophile · 26/07/2024 19:43

I was fairly young when Alicia Kite was my first call in sales season, Galiana. But over a few years, until my DM moved from Sheffield (to Banbury which has precisely no fashion points anywhere).

The burgundy red is going to be a massive colour for AW24. Even the kitchenware companies are all over it. It's an easy accent.

botemp · 27/07/2024 08:34

Galiana, I got a wool pillar skirt recently and because the weather has been so shit I've been able to wear it with a linen shirt or oversized t-shirt and my ginzas or other platform sandals with a slouchy bag and it's surprisingly casual and easy to wear while still providing an interesting silhouette. In my head a leather version with soft knitwear and chunky knee high boots feels like it'll do the same for me come winter (although, admittedly probably a bit less casual but I'm thinking bright coloured knitwear will steer it away from being too severe). The wool one will probably do the job in winter but it's black so in that sense a bit limited.

Ahem, so I watched the opening of the Olympics, I... ehm... I think I can only express my feelings about the whole thing through interpretive dance at this point 😶 It was very French, let's leave it at that. Oh, and whatever kind of coats the Columbians were wearing, they were my fave of the sport teams outfits. Otherwise, aside from Cynthia Erivo's dress (the green one) it was low on outfits of interest.

Ah Red if only I did anything in life with purpose ;)

Sounds good if red (colour) is back. Esp the deep shades. Fingers crossed! What I would like is a pair of wool trousers that colour.

Can you ride a bike in a pillar skirt though?

I watched the opening ceremony too and yes, very French. 😂

botemp · 27/07/2024 08:51

Yes, it's bike friendly, it has a split at the back that goes up quite high and since it's basically as wide as the widest part of your hips it's a lot roomier than it optically looks. Strong winds and rain might become a bit of an obstacle come winter though 🤔

OP posts:
banivani · 27/07/2024 08:55

Oh I hate high splits - makes me feel very unsafe! 😬 I am not French enough!

Galiana · 27/07/2024 08:59

Ahh, I'm going to watch the opening ceremony with my coffee this morning, am intrigued by the 'very french', maybe I should have a pastis with my coffee for authenticity.

That green dress, the fabric, my goodness, that's beautiful.

You're tempting me eith a wool pillar skirt @botemp, I can see how that could work as a fairly relaxed piece.

(I don't even know why I'm saying this, I'm the least casual person ever, I don't do casual, ever, at all).

@Floisme, any dyeing tips? I buggered up my favourite Eres swimsuit in a hottub with too much chlorine. I've searched online for a replacement but no joy, is it salvageable? Probably not.

Galiana · 27/07/2024 09:02

I think everything is bike-friendly if you're Dutch@botemp, I was in Amsterdam a couple of weeks ago and very much enjoyed seeing glam women biking about.

Galiana · 27/07/2024 09:08

I've probably told you before @botemp that my husband has four Dutch siblings because his priapic father left his mother for a Dutch woman and moved to Holland.

The sister we all adore lives in Utrecht.

botemp · 27/07/2024 09:50

Oh if only that were true Galiana but there are quite some wardrobe issues that can turn a bike lethal or strip you of your clothing (I speak from experience, a dress got caught in the chain and ripped it clean off thankfully a nice man gave me his coat and insisted I keep it Blush).

Utrecht is a lovely city, I don't understand why more tourists don't visit it. It's a lot easier to navigate than Amsterdam and very charming.

I'm no dyeing expert like Flo but I think you should be able to redye a bathing suit with Rit dye.

Olympics with Pastis will definitely have you embracing the French spirit of it quicker, would recommend.

Although now I'm thinking of Flo's smurf hand and a certain 'Smurf' moment in the Olympics and I'm now left wondering if Mr Flo moonlights as Bacchus on Fridays...

I am chortling at your bike/dress story @botemp. Utrect is beautiful, it's a mini Amsterdam, we've sent both the teens over independently to visit their aunt, it's a great 'step into the world' for them. Independent traveling is really important for young people I think. Gives them confidence. My son had the best work experience a couple of weeks ago, I got him into Apple at the Battersea power station headquarters, he stayed with my sister and pounded the streets of London every day.

He's applied to Imperial because he feels 'London calling', I did say, I know a song about that...

Galiana · 27/07/2024 10:06

@Floisme, do you moonlight as Bacchus?

That would blow my mind!

Say yes.

Galiana · 27/07/2024 12:34

Eewww why Gaga?

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 27/07/2024 21:31

This was just too perfect to pass up today. I have several skirts, including a navy button through Sofie D’Hoore skirt, and very full black and silver brocade Baum und Pferdgarten skirt, which I stopped wearing because I'm now too fat to tuck anything in with them and I couldn't think what to wear with them. They still fit but they need a boxy, not fitted, cropped to just below waistband, top

Redandblue11 · 27/07/2024 21:56

Are we already talking leather skirts 😳I feel I have not had my summer yet. I refuse to end this summer. Anyhow, probably after I have my summer holidays I will be in a frame of mind to think about lush leather ensembles.

Very French. Absolutely. How else would the French do it.

castle that is a good shirt/jacket … I am actually tempted.

Galiana · 27/07/2024 22:22

Ooh, I like that @IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle.

Redandblue11 · 27/07/2024 22:59

Then again … I remember my wallet is dry … so I will just admire from afar.
