Lovers of Parisian style and fashion with a conscious mindset and lots of chatter in between.

Arf.

Brigitte looking very sharp there.

botemp · 09/07/2024 17:04

Poor Brigitte has been battling a trolling campaign claiming she's transgender (I think it's even a court case now) so I kind of liked that she went with a sharp somewhat masculine suit. I'm reading it as a f u to the trolls, anyhow.

Where's mm, there's going to be an immersive show about fashion shows (are we still following ?) in London in October. It sounds really good but I'm also cynical as these immersive shows are often more commerce than art. I'm assuming the tickets will be double that of a museum exhibit anyhow.

I have never been to one of the immersive exhibition, because of the perception they are very commercial, as you pointed out Bo.
but never say never, I might be proven wrong … after all I like many things which to be honest are mainly for commercial objectives

botemp · 10/07/2024 12:33

Yeah, I think my main issue with these immersive exhibits is that they're presented as art art. A projected version of painting feels a bit of a sad substitute to the real thing in my mind, but as I've never really seen one I'm perhaps being overly harsh. It kind of reminds me of a 'fake' museum in Amsterdam that exists entirely for tourists who think it's a legitimate museum (with a very hefty entrance fee) but it's just a very random collection of lesser known works of recognisable names with a lot of allowances for selfies and the like. I mean, it perfectly performs to the audience but a true art snob would be horrified.

Anyhow, this Vogue immersion experience isn't pretending to be anything high brow so I'm less averse, I guess 🤷 it's on until March so if anyone's willing to be a guinea pig and report back I might make the trip (especially if there's something else on of interest).

Have I got this right...you're all so worried about me you're coming to Dublin to see if I'm still alive? Come over please!

Still here, just about getting over the news of Dries' retirement. I loved the catwalk of the final men's show. I caved and bought a very impractical coat that is lightly padded and has an overlay of silk organza. It only really makes sense to wear it in cool, dry, clean conditions so not my most sensible purchase. It looks great with jeans and a white t-shirt though.

That impractical coat has all my approval elle.
The colours and fluidity look perfect. I can really see it would look great on you.

I have to also admit to impractical purchases on things that I just could not let go as I felt I only had one chance … and I have an item that belonged to VW….

And I am also all in favour of continuing my Dublin exploration!

botemp · 11/07/2024 12:11

Red you can't just casually drop you've bought something from the VW auction and not tell us about it 🫨 😲 🫨

Hello Elle longtime no see, I had to Google the coat a bit to see it on a model, apparently you can wear it inside out as well? I do love his layering of transparency. There's a few silk shell tops from Dries in the Net A Porter sale that would go well with if you want to continue being reckless...

I wouldn't object to visiting Dublin (even though my grandparents once got cursed there and I'm not sure if it's a multi generational curse 🙈) although I'd really like to go to Belfast too just to visit Envoy of Belfast. Although in my mind these cities are a stone's throw away when it's more likely a bit of a distance... Are you still heading to Dublin regularly for work Red?

Redandblue11 · 12/07/2024 08:16

😎😐
I know Bo … wasn’t sure how to break the news.
it is one the very few pieces that went for less ie in hundreds.
Not any of my favourite shortlisted, but a knitted 2 piece which is wearable (I intend to wear it in special occasions only).

Yes I still go to Dublin, but less certain of my next few trips as it also looks like my next two may be Spain and not Dublin.

botemp · 12/07/2024 08:56

How exciting, Red, (Spain and new purchase) were you planning to bid or did the frenzy of the auction suddenly have you bidding?

OP posts:
ToEllewithIt · 12/07/2024 09:36

Oh that's really exciting red pics please.

Are curses multi generational - not usually, even in Mayo. https://www.bbc.com/sport/gaelic-games/67612202

Belfast is about a 90 min drive or train journey from Dublin, they're pretty close.

Well done on digging out model photos. The flat lay ones don't look great. It does get compliments in person, however I'm sometimes wary of that as a mark of a great outfit as I think people feel compelled to compliment statement pieces so it might not be a great bellwether.

timeisnotaline · 12/07/2024 10:02

This is pretty exciting red! And I love the coat. I also love the AM dress, I don’t know if I’d call it marmite. It’s perhaps more La doublej than political wife but I just can’t care about that. I like it and love the label, a few pieces I could wear.

Floisme · 12/07/2024 10:04

Oh Red I'm so pleased for you! Which one, which one? I remember a knitted suit in the exhibition which I think had diagonal stripes and a bit of a Missoni vibe... off to check my catalogue now to see what else there was.

And congrats on the coat Elle, I loved them in the catwalk show.

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 12/07/2024 12:23

Congratulations Red! I don't think you will regret it.

Redandblue11 · 14/07/2024 20:25

I had planned to bid, I am not a person of impulse buys.
but it was the second lot, not the in person bidding (which were the more expensive, although most went by quite a bit anyway)
is not in my possession yet, so patiently waiting !

Floisme · 18/07/2024 14:54

I've just been trying to hand dye a jacket of indeterminate fabric, wearing rubber gloves but didn't notice there was a hole in one of them Blush

Plus I don't think any of the colour has taken 😡

botemp · 18/07/2024 18:00

Flo you look like you tried to crack a cash machine and triggered the dye pack, or, alternatively, a lacklustre audition for the blue man group (do they allow women in?).

Has it arrived yet Red, I'm not usually into unboxing content but I'm actually kind of curious how a fancy auction house packages clothes. I hope not in a jiffy bag 😱

OP posts:
Redandblue11 · 18/07/2024 22:16

I thought I was looking at a Smurf when I saw flo’s hand.
Not yet Bo, tomorrow …

Papyrophile · 19/07/2024 12:02

Pictures, please red!

New user name, Flo? Along the lines of SmurfingFlo?

Galiana · 20/07/2024 10:35

Bloody hell @Floisme! That's some hand dyeing there.

(I'm also impressed that your hands look younger than mine, years of gardening have given me the hands of a well-worn woman!).

I met Fran L once through a friend, I liked her more than she liked me, I was of no interest to her. And that's no bad thing. I'm not that interesting...

There was a timely article in the Telegraph last week by Lisa Armstrong about the death of Internet shopping. I've been feeling it for a while, availability used to feel great, now it feels 'ho hum'. I'm feeling in the mood for finding a great independent boutique and developing a relationship. I live near footballers wives land though so most indies cater to that very specific crowd.

Any suggestions for the NW, I'm all ears!

Galiana · 20/07/2024 11:03

And I bought THE perfect dress from CO, and I bought it thinking 'that's the perfect dress' (it definitely is, I wear it back-to-front, and the right way, and it gets so much love), maybe it's too good because it's sidelined everything else. It just works, for everything.

I went to Amsterdam to see the Pet Shop Boys a couple of weeks ago and DD loves doing a 'wardrobe workthrough' before I go away. So we sorted a capsule, but I just wore my CO dress and MaxMara trousers and halterneck on repeat with different shoes and bags.

And it made me think, Internet shopping is brilliant BUT, I always look for things and brands I know I like. I always look great, but I think it's ultimately made me a bit bored with clothes.

I feel like I need to develop a relationship with someone who knows me, I used to have that and then had my head turned by Massenet and the interwebs.

CrkdLttrCrkdLttr · 20/07/2024 11:32

I used to have that sort of relationship with Wardrobe in Conduit Street in the 90s, @Galiana. (Not sure the place even exists in the same form now.) It slightly ruined me - both in terms of bank balance and patience with other stores where they didn’t know me.

When my overdraft became less elastic in the early 2000s I had to revert to ‘lesser’ shops. Harvey Nichols seemed to assign me my own personal security guard who followed me through the Edinburgh / Manchester / Birmingham (thankfully not London) stores - always at my elbow. To the extent that I sometimes said hello … So I guess after half a century of repeatedly having to convince shop assistants that I’m ‘good enough’, online shopping has been a blessed relief for me.

Which Co dress?
