Lovers of Parisian style and fashion with a conscious mindset and lots of chatter in between.

I didn't even contemplate the length time, but indeed at 5"4 those trousers would aid me in keeping the floors dust free... Ah, well, at least it makes me feel better about not putting in the order. Did get an email from Linton Tweeds today so I might have a nose on their site, they probably got the tweed from there.

Flo, I'd have assumed the VW collection would be your top priority. It's definitely a once in a lifetime thing unless some billionaire decides to buy it all and magnanimously displays it somewhere which seems very unlikely. If you can go, go, definitely feels like one of those things you'd regret.

You could have just worn them with your platform sandals Bo
That is one of the main appeals for platforms to me- I can wear things I haven’t gotten around to hemming 😁

🤫 stop giving away my secrets of laziness time, I feel way too seen 🙈

For those of you up north, this exhibition curated by Erdem at Chatsworth House looks like a nice outing.

Interesting Red, I'm not sure I'm allowed an opinion on Carribbean style as it's been so long ago, or if there really is such a thing. I know Botter allude to it a lot in their work but imho because of the different colonial powers culture varies wildly from island to island so I always struggle to see it as a cohesive thing, especially in style where it just often seems to be colourful warm weather clothes 🤷 I do find a lot of men's collections have become so fluid they often look more like women's collections. While there are definitely some fashion forward men embracing it, it doesn't really move beyond that subset. I think the whole gender bending/fluidity/androgyny thing is on its way out which is a bit of a shame as the more interesting fashion shows for years have been the mens'.

I saw VW. What can I say other than is the best thing I have seen, or very much up there. And if I had to compare to something in terms of memorable exhibitions, is up there with the Dior one for me. I am just purely saying in the sense of memorable things and the feeling it will reignite every time I remember them.

You could see the clothing all around, details from the side and back. So much I loved about it, including her fight for what she believed and her messages. There was a short film too which was delightful and strong.
If the could only get something, but that is beyond reach and I suspect the lots will go for more.

Redandblue11 · 23/06/2024 09:23

I got the limited edition catalogue of the lots as it is really well done and there are photos of her wearing the outfits.

Floisme · 24/06/2024 09:33

Well I made it back to London for a day and to Christies, bit of a faff but that's what retirement, and Senior Railcards are for. Totally worth it and fabulous, partly because, as Red says, the clothes weren't behind glass so you could get right up close and walk around to see them from all angles. (No touching though - lots of very polite but watchful security staff).

But I also thought they managed to capture her spirit which is something even the grandest exhibitions don't always manage. That's what I'd meant about the Biba event falling a bit flat for me, but Christies (and I imagine Andreas who I believe curated it) got it absolutely right. They turned the occasion into something joyous.

The visitors played their part too - lots of them wearing Vivienne / Vivienne-esque outfits. At the risk of bringing angry people to the thread, I have to say it was quite thrilling to see London dressing up again.

I'd seen the catalogue online before going in and I'd thought, '£55 and it's not even hardback - stuff that'. But in the end, I couldn't leave without it. As Red says, there are some great photos that I hadn't seen before and, given that I won't be bidding, it's a great momento.

I might start wearing eye liner again. Be more Vivienne.

Redandblue11 · 24/06/2024 10:31

I am so happy that you went Flo.
I also enjoyed people watching, what a great and joyous occasion.

I came out very inspired, might start to be more Vivienne.

Floisme · 24/06/2024 11:19

Thanks Red and yes, me too, can you imagine Vivienne ever asking, 'Am I too old to wear this?' 'Is this dated?' 'Are my legs too short?'

botemp · 24/06/2024 12:00

Good to hear you both made it, any chance you snapped some pictures or was it not allowed? I'd really have liked to see it but I will have to live vicariously.

I've been going through my summer wardrobe ahead of leaving for holidays. Hadn't paid much attention to it as the weather really didn't call for it but I've decided I'm annoyed with it and I'm having those unhealthy itches to get rid of it all and start again. I got rid of some things last year that had stretched out beyond being wearable (I'll have to remember that next time I have a jersey dress in hand) but I'd kind of forgotten I neede to fill those holes. Perhaps I need a holey dress 🤔

I need to edit some of my pics to get rid of random unknown faces who might not appreciate appearing on Mumsnet. But, if I had a few grand to spare, I'd be bidding for this:

Hmm, I've always wondered if you were a time traveling dandy, Flo, I see it's now confirmed. Excellent choice, but since we're fantasy buying, question, would this be to buy to wear or would it be to admire in a special drawer and occasionally stroke lovingly?

Thanks for the pics, it looks really well presented. It's nice they put that on and it's so accessible to the non buying public.

Floisme · 24/06/2024 16:47

Just to show how erm.... multi faceted I am, here are some of my other favourites.

If I were in a position to buy, it would definitely be to wear, although that said, I've never managed to untrain myself from saving for best, so maybe that's delusional. Plus they were her own clothes so how well they'd fit is anyone's guess.

Edited to say, dammit I've just noticed there's at least one child on the 3rd photo and the app won't let me change it. I might report the whole post and see what they say.

Ok I've reported my post so will see what they say.

Floisme · 24/06/2024 17:12

Thank you MNHQ for that speedy response. Here's the 3rd pic again but cropped. This was the earliest piece on show, from 1981 or 82 I think.

There's also a tweed coat listed that I took a liking to and that looked just like Sherlock Holme's dressing gown. But it wasn't in the show unfortunately.

Redandblue11 · 24/06/2024 17:43

If I was buying to wear, which I was in my head while looking at all that I thought that any of the silk dresses would be wearable. I loved the blue velvet jacket and thought it was made for me.
and really liked the red and black dress, which I was surprised as I don’t normally like that colour combo or type of dress but I was really drawn to it.

I'll be very curious to see how much over the guide price things will go. It is a shame the collection will no longer be a collection after this.

Speaking of goodbyes, had a watch of Dries van Noten's last show. Very bittersweet, lovely choice of music.

Is it me or is that show as close to perfect as one can get.

So beautiful.

Just listening to Today programme (BBC Radio 4) article on a new Disney produced documentary about Diane von Furstenberg - directed by the new Star Wars director.

@Floisme I second @yesmen - and will be wearing my Be more Vivienne badge today. (My phone is determined that that word is … vadge. Grin) I spent so much of the 80s, 90s, early 2000s trying on and occasionally buying her clothes - the heedless abandoning and wearing to death is too painful to contemplate.

Will make another cup of coffee before worshipping Dries.

Floisme · 25/06/2024 08:44

Thank you @yesmen and @CrkdLttrCrkdLttr - what a nice thing to say Flowers
The whole event was uplifting. There's a quote of Vivienne's that I can't quite remember but it's something like, 'Getting dressed is life enhancing' and that's why I love clothes - not to make my arse look smaller but because I know of no better start to the day than putting on a great outfit.

Not sure what to make of Star Wars does Diane von Furstenberg!

Thanks for the Dries link bo, looking forward to watching that.
