Help with finding a gift for my wife

I had posted this in the Christmas thread, but wondered if I might get some help here? While my wife isn't hugely label driven, she does like nice things. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Mumsnetters,

Me again with my annual thread looking for gift advice for my wife. In return, I will give top tips on male gifts (no we don't want cheap cycling gear. Yes we do want expensive hiking boots).

My wife (46, outdoorsy, dog loving) has had a rough few months with the passing of her father, so I'm keen to get her something special. Holidays are out as we have one booked in Feb. All I have to work with this year is that she seemingly loves everything from Wolf and Badger, likes Penhalligon's perfume and I have a note in my phone that says "Rosa's T Gloves" but no idea what it means. Only that I made a note of it when she mentioned them at some point...

Help!

Ask her. Honestly, it's better than all this angsting. Everyone gets things they like and no-one has to stress.
Sure, it's lovely if your partner can magically buy you things to your exact taste, but it's too much pressure IMO and a bit rom-com fantasy.
Feel free to ignore if this is too Grinchy for you 😁

Carleatspeas · 27/11/2023 15:53

I did ask her, but all I can recall is that she wanted something called Rosa T Gloves that I think came from Wolf and Badger. I can't find them anywhere though!

Ask again

This.

Honestly, OP, it isn’t rocket science. Why on earth would you think a bunch of strangers on the internet who share only chromosomes with your wife are likely to be able to come up with more suitable presents than a spouse who (a) knows and loves her and (b) can actually ASK her?

MermaidEyes · 27/11/2023 16:11

Interesting how the responses on this are completely different to the ones on the
Christmas thread

Milknosugarta · 27/11/2023 16:11

Don't Penhaligon do a kind of selection box of perfumes? She'd probably like that. (I would, too).

indecisivewoman81 · 27/11/2023 16:20

I can't help you with the gloves ( I had a look on their website but couldn't see anything), but I can tell you the things I secretly long for for Christmas (which may or may not help).

A really lovely black cashmere jumper (M&S do some nice ones)

Jo Malone perfume

Cashmere socks

Cyber jammies jersey PJs

Moleskin or leather journal and a nice pen

Bubble baths

Scented candle

A good weather proof coat for walking the dog

Carleatspeas · 27/11/2023 16:20

Christ. I'm heading back to the Christmas thread. You fashionistas are a miserable bunch.

I didn't even get to tell you about the house in the Hamptons, with a massive red bow that I'll be surprising her with.

Thanks. I got her an Anthropology Cashmere jumper recently, so will probably avoid another one. Moleskin journal is a nice idea.

@Carleatspeas Was it anything to do with Titanic? Rose's Titanic gloves? 😂

CharlotteRumpling · 27/11/2023 16:24

What I do with DH is give him a list of 5 things I would like, and he buys one or two. That way I am surprised but no unpleasant surprises!

I hope not. I could get her a replica of "The Heart of the Ocean".

Yes. It's been a great success as I'm not actually able to talk to my wife and I imagine that all women like exactly the same things.

I usually surprise her with the gift recommended by strange women from the internet just after she's finished clearing up after everyone on Christmas day. You should see her face when push the box toward her as the soap suds drip from her fingers.

Re the gloves, might that be rose pruning gloves ? If so Gold Leaf are the best, the ones with gauntlets.
Penhaligons - lots to choose from so get samples and a voucher ?
Or a consultation at Les Senteurs to find a scent for her ?
There are a lot of things at Wolf and Badger, I don’t know how you would narrow it down, I suppose try and choose from one section, eg jewellery, dresses..
If she likes her garden- a small but beautiful tree, eg a crabapple or Witch Hazel. Roses.
Cashmere lined gloves are v nice always.
Glamorous wool thermals from Bella di Notte. Brilliant if you are outside in the Winter but still look gorgeous when undressing.
Really good boots.
A knitted cashmere scarf in a beautiful colour - Brora.
Also lovely knitwear in Toast.

SheTookChances · 27/11/2023 16:43

A man comes on mumsnet because he doesn’t listen to his wife well through the year, to get other women to do the work for him. And he tries, and fails, to be funny. 🤢

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 27/11/2023 16:46

Has she got a friend called Rosa, who has some covetable thermal/turquoise/thin gloves?

Not rose pruning. Some sort of fashion glove. I will subtly investigate.

The cashmere gloves are a good idea. As are the thermals. We do a lot of walking and she has some fleece lined leggings that she loves.

Yep. I’d hate if my partner did this.

Will you hate your Foot-spa Whirl more though?

Let's hope you're not on the 'bitterly disappointed' brigade on Christmas Day then...
