New thread, thanks for the brilliant title suggestion, as ever!

Kate looks like a mix of an inspector, Handmaids Tale and Carmen Sandiego today

Got it in one!!!! 🤣

I'm on the fence.... I want to love it but I can't! She needs a cape intervention from Max I think 😆

I’d love something old out of the vault for Sophie!

Queen Mary’s sapphire bandeau would be lovely! Last seen on Princess Margaret.

That is GORGEOUS! Would be fabulous on Sophie.

paradyning · 21/11/2023 16:39

Think the cape is too long

locketrocket · 21/11/2023 16:39

@Gooseysgirl that's exactly it! There's too much cape (material?) it almost needs to be a gilet? Style cape.

Hopefully you know what I mean 🤣

locketrocket · 21/11/2023 16:40

But full marks for mixing it up. Tbh I did not see a cape coming.

It's also the shoulder pads that make it look a little odd. I think as a cape looks quite dramatic, it's best to keep it simpler like Máxima here. No need for frills and furbelows!

Maireas · 21/11/2023 16:53

Maxima looks great there.

Yeah I actually detest the severe shoulder line having seen it front on, and it meant she had to wear a wide brim to balance it. Combined with the bow (would have liked that more if it wasn't a repeat tbh), the cape and the hat it's just a bit wrong. IMO it's well into Panto territory.

Shame, as the profile shot was lovely! I'm obviously quite keen on a flash of leg...

themessygarden · 21/11/2023 16:55

The dress is a coat dress, it looks gorgeous, has a beautiful cut to it, although I think the oversized bow kind of ruins it.

Sophie looks lovely, I like her hair in that casual style.

AllTangledUpInTitlesAndTiaras · 21/11/2023 16:56

I do like the cape though. Had it been styled differently I could have embraced that wholeheartedly (love a cape). But she gets many points for mixing it up again.

Catherine looking totally amazing in red today.

I just came on to say "what the hell....?" That bow! That hat!!

Huge miss for me ☹️

themessygarden · 21/11/2023 17:06

It does look really nice in this photo though !

KnickerlessParsons · 21/11/2023 17:07

Clever how the bow and hat are both at the same angle. I wonder if that's chance or by design?

Still think it's awful. She's in her 40s (just) not her 70s.

MotherofPearl · 21/11/2023 17:09

Love the colour but the proportions aren't quite right somehow, and that giant bow is not ideal.

chesterelly1 · 21/11/2023 17:11

I agree with Killingmedeftly, Max has shown us that a cape is impactful enough without big embellishments. Top marks for mixing it up but the bow was just a step too far. I bet she's added a few to her wardrobe - brown with a touch of "county" for Sandringham, green for St Patrick's Day......
Fingers x'd for some stinking jewels later.

MotherofPearl · 21/11/2023 17:33

Given Kate's love of literal dressing, maybe there is hope that she'll wear one of the ruby tiaras this evening, to keep up the red theme.

I think like @AllTangledUpInTitlesAndTiaras I prefer the Oriental Circlet. It's more delicate than the Burmese Ruby Tiara, which is a bit too 'dense' in design for my liking.

Women in their 70s are often chic and stylish.

Kate looks lovely in that photo @themessygarden. Very elegant.
I thought her brows were a bit darker than normal- I wasn't keen on them.

I get the "Handmaids Tale" vibe too though. Smile

Sidebeforeself · 21/11/2023 17:42

Love the fact we can see her in later shots without the hat and cape and with her hair down

And a shorter dress hallelujah I thought she was stuck with midis for life

Of course they are - almost that age myself. I wasn't implying they weren't and sorry you inferred that from my comment.
But there are clothes I wear now that I wouldn't have worn at 40, and vice versa.

I’d have mine on show all the time if I had a pair like that!
