I thought I'd do a Xmas edition of the styling threads I've done before for anyone who is interested 🎄👠

@frillseeking thank you so much. Green is my favourite colour so I love the dress. The trouser suit is my favourite of the three. It's gorgeous. I was thinking today of buying a trouser suit for it and this one is perfect...I think it will really suit my frame and physique.💚

frillseeking · 09/12/2023 20:39

@FinallyFinalGirl I think it will look really elegant with your height and look really chic without being over the top.

frillseeking · 09/12/2023 20:43

@FinallyFinalGirl pressed send too soon... I was going to say I've been invited to events before where I've felt a bit intimidated by the other people going so I appreciate that getting the outfit right is important for you to feel confident. I noticed it's in the sale so some sizes are sold out on the whistles website but selfridges have stock in some sizes so hopefully you can find the set between the two. You could also wear the pieces separately on other occasions. The trousers would look good with a jumper and boots for a more casual occasion and you could wear the jacket with jeans so it's not a one off outfit or something you'd find hard to wear again hopefully!

Thank you @frillseeking. Menswear is indeed tricky and I find that men are more likely to wear a “uniform”. Your suggestions are fab and I have booked a babysitter for all day next Saturday so that DH and I can hit the shops!

Brilliant! Have fun! Definitely agree men tend to stick to a uniform as such. I've managed to get my husband to venture out a bit with subtle tweaks- going for a tan suede Chelsea boot rather than black for example and trying other neutral colours for knitwear such as khaki. I know that's still quite simple but it makes a change from black, navy and grey 😂 enjoy!

I’m going to Claridges for tea just before Xmas. Meeting old school friends who I haven’t seen for a while (30 years!) I’m tall, size 22 and will have to wear clumpy boots as have broken foot.
Thinking bootleg velour trousers and black sparkly top. - dull? Dated?

frillseeking · 09/12/2023 21:57

@Queenofthesilverdollar I don't think it sounds dull or dated, do you feel nice in the outfit? What sort of coat are you planning on wearing?

OP posts:
Queenofthesilverdollar · 09/12/2023 22:04

@frillseeking I’ve got a leopard print 3/4 length one…… or a navy Seasalt anorak 😆Realised I’m a bit short of coats

frillseeking · 09/12/2023 22:07

@Queenofthesilverdollar perfect! That will set the outfit off 👌🏻 You don't want to introduce too many colours if you've got a printed/ patterned coat. If it suits your complexion, you can't beat a red lip with black and leopard print. Ps.. how lovely to meet up with old friends after so long!

@frillseeking frillseeking Definitely do red lips. I am so looking forward to it x

Absolutely love this thread, thanks so much @frillseeking - I’ve got so many ideas from it. You mentioned you have a silver satin skirt and recently bought some silver trousers, would you mind sharing where you got these from please?

frillseeking · 13/12/2023 10:26

@Tafelberg that's great to hear. Hopefully it's given people some ideas for things they may have already in their wardrobe, as well as new pieces. Here are the links to the skirt and trousers. The trousers are really soft and comfortable to wear. I wore them at the weekend to dinner with a striped tshirt and black blazer and cowboy boots. They instantly make an outfit on trend and a bit more dressy. The skirt I absolutely love. At the moment I'm wearing with black sock boots and a dressy black top but I'd wear in summer with sandals and a tshirt. I think sizes are limited now but I'd also recommend the Topshop satin skirts. The quality is amazing and the satin is really drapey and luxe www.asos.com/prd/205093507?acquisitionsource=pasteboard

@frillseeking thank you so much for the links - love those skirts, I have a few satin midis already but think the longer length looks fab as a change. And I’m sorely tempted by the silver trousers too. Have had my eye on some from Warehouse for a while - these - wasn’t sure how much wear I’d get out of them but I’m starting to think they might be more versatile than they seem.

@Tafelberg ooh yes those ones are cool. When I get a sec I'll do a couple of moodboards. It took me a while to get used to them but now I love them and they're actually easier to style than you think. I was going to wear leather trousers at the weekend but felt a bit boring and then put the silver ones on and instantly felt on trend and smarter. My husband still says they're like bacofoil but what does he know 😀

OP posts:
Tafelberg · 13/12/2023 11:39

@frillseeking haha! Well I noticed even Tu at Sainsbury’s have their own version of them now, so there’s obviously a market for the bacofoil look 😉would love to see the moodboards when you have time, thanks!

JonnyTheDogFacedBoy · 13/12/2023 15:56

Hi Frill, I want something to wear on Christmas day. Comfortable to cook in, but a bit special and glam.

The reason I'm struggling is because I'm in an unusual situation right now and don't know how to dress. I'm 2 weeks post cosmetic surgery - I've had a tummy tuck and (smallish) breast implants. So, although I was slim before, for the first time in my life I have a small waist, flat stomach, and actual breasts. BUT, I'm still prone to swelling post surgery and can't predict how slim or puffy I'll be on the day. I'm also wearing compression garments which have thick shoulder straps, start at above my (new) cleavage, and finish mid thigh. Which make short skirts and dresses or low cut or strapless things unfeasible.

I'm 5'9", size 10 but with a small waist, curvy hips and broad shoulders (hour glass but slim and long limbed) boobs a C cup. I'm currently living in high waisted wide leg trousers with stretch at the waist, with slightly cropped jumpers.

Don't want to spend huge amounts as my body will continue to change over the next few months.

That is a unique and challenging set of criteria, which is why I'm struggling. If you have any ideas, I'd be very grateful.

frillseeking · 14/12/2023 00:38

@JonnyTheDogFacedBoy I think you could make the look that you're wearing now work, just with a bit of a festive spin. What about something like these wide legs from M&S sequin wide legs with something like this knit from H&M.. or velvet wide legs with this lovely Mint Velvet jumper which is in the sale so not too £. The sequin trousers are v glam but elasticated waist so comfy. You could wear them with a black jumper if you already have one and maybe a hair bow if you wanted to accessorise. I picked go this one from Claire's recently and it looks much more expensive than what it is hair bow

Thanks Frill. I like the idea of a glam version of what I'm currently comfortable wearing - hadn't thought of that, but instantly feel less stressed about outfit plans. Thank you 😊

Urgenthelplease · 14/12/2023 08:34

This thread is bad for my bank balance. I didn't like the silver trousers from Zara but just bought the other ones linked from Warehouse along with a couple of silk skirts from ASOS.

Tafelberg · 14/12/2023 12:22

@Urgenthelplease I feel your pain, sorry (/not sorry) for bringing the Warehouse trousers to your attention!

This was an outfit I wore recently and I wanted to show how you can mix gold and silver with classic pieces to create an updated look

Hi there,
This is a super idea! I got a dress for my brother's wedding on NYD. When I tried it on I felt it just right!
Comfortable, nice length, sleeves, velvet as it seems to be 'in' at the moment!
Looking for inspiration on what shoes to compliment it, ideas on headpieces, ear rings and should I wear a neck piece or leave that put and go dramatic on the ear rings!

I am 5 ft 71/2 so tall.
Idea is to look classy/elegant/kind of funky!!! Maybe a big ask 😅

@Tafelberg it wouldn't be so bad of I didn't also buy the crackle skirt in silver and gold and a leather midi. I haven't bought warehouse since they went online only so I'm hoping the quality is still good.

Tafelberg · 15/12/2023 09:09

@Urgenthelplease there’s a skirt?! Might be my turn to be blaming you for breaking my bank account soon…! I bought some black jeans from Warehouse not too long ago and they’re good quality and fit well so fingers crossed.

Bacofoil is exactly the description - each to their own but the fake leather bacofoil trousers look horrible.
