I thought I'd do a Xmas edition of the styling threads I've done before for anyone who is interested 🎄👠

Thank you so much, so helpful - especially the orange skirt!

Bunny2021 · 06/12/2023 13:51

@frillseeking thank you so much!

Shelaydownunderthetable · 06/12/2023 14:53

@frillseeking Still waiting for the shoes 😅 The curtains are twitching as I watch for the post lady!

Jellybott · 06/12/2023 16:21

@frillseeking excellent thread!

Do you have any ideas for comfy but put together maternity Christmas day outfits? I'm 5"3 and usually a size 10-12, but now have a rather sizable bump!

Oh my goodness - what a great thread - thank you @frillseeking!

I need some help on weekend casual wardrobe inspo. Have just got my work wardrobe back on track and feel like I’ve nailed my look (wide legged wool trousers from COS and jigsaw, silk shirts and cashmere crew necks) but have lost my way with down time clothes.

Kids are 2 and 5 so I’m still in sticky fingers/muddy park territory. Can you recommend any inspo accounts to follow? I’m especially looking for top styles as basically just wear shit quality shapeless bretons atm. I’m 5’7, size 10 and 36yo if that makes a difference 🙏🏻

Just bumping my own question on here! If anyone has any good insta accounts or clothes shop recommendations I’m keen to hear!

frillseeking · 06/12/2023 18:12

@Justnoidea Missy Elz is good for outfit ideas, she does a good mix of every day items and basics and going out styles. I think you'd quite like Anna Cascarina's style for inspo and what to wear for is great for shopping the high street but beware as they post so many outfits every day so your purse might not thank you! I'll link some ideas as well

For anyone looking at those red Hobbs shoes and bag, they're in the sale and you can get the two for £169, £10 less than the original price of just the shoes!

Hi @frillseeking - this is such a good thread! Hoping you might be able to help my endless quest for the perfect dress...

I’m looking for a maxi or long midi dress in a sort of boho, 70s style that can be dressed up for Xmas day/evening and down for e.g. walk to a pub. Printed, flowy but ideally fitted around bust or waist. Feels like the sort of thing French and Spanish brands do well but I haven’t found the found the right one - love the prints and vibe of these https://www.maisonh.com/collections/dresses but worry they will be a bit shapeless or dowdy on. Sorry for such a specific request but wondered if you knew of any likely candidates or just similar brands - anything I can easily order and return in uk would be a huge bonus!

kuime · 06/12/2023 19:25

Should have said, budget up to £150 but ideally closer to £100

Urgenthelplease · 06/12/2023 20:02

Thanks so much @frillseeking I love Sandro and Maje. I've been living in their check short suit and I'm obsessed. Could you share links for the other jackets?

Urgenthelplease · 07/12/2023 03:33

Also found some slightly cheaper silver trousers on Zara and I'm very hopeful.

Justnoidea · 07/12/2023 09:13

@frillseeking thanks so much! Love that Anna cascarina isn’t a tiny skinny model as well.

Think I’ll start making notes and try to plan a weekend capsule wardrobe.

frillseeking · 07/12/2023 10:03

@Justnoidea yes I really like her style and seeing clothes on an average sized person. If you like Cos and Jigsaw, I'd suggest Arket for a more casual look. They do really good quality knitwear such as this gorgeous chartreuse knit and they have some lovely casual coats/ jackets. Whistles is also worth a look and Other Stories

@Jellybott some ideas for you below. I've included a couple of maternity dresses. The other pieces are all super stretchy so would accommodate bump. I didn't want to link here as it's an image from her insta account but have a look at Lust Living. She recently wore a gorgeous silver skirt and pink knit outfit which looked lovely with a bump. A knitted dress is always easy to wear with a bump, love the embellished neckline one from H&M. Also love the velvet dress from Nobody's Child- the super stretchy bodice would look great with a bump and you could wear after too.

@kuime I think some of the dresses on the site you linked would work once on as they're belted which will give shape. Free People is a brand that always has a boho aesthetic to their design. High street wise sometimes the Spanish brands like Mango and Zara have things like this in their collections as the look is popular like you say in Spain and France but I couldn't find anything this season. Friends like These at next work with Millie Mackintosh so yoh might find something that works as that's her signature style. I love this style attached

@frillseeking thanks so much - some great ideas here, have found a similar skirt already which looks like it might work!

frillseeking · 07/12/2023 19:59

@Mumsanetta I find menswear quite tricky as most men are loyal to a select few brands and they can tend to be quite particular about what they like (generally speaking here of course!) couple of moodboards for inspo. M&S are great for affordable basics, I often spot celebs and tv stars wearing their stuff recently which I'm quick to point out to DH! Reiss are good for a very clean, smart aesthetic and tailoring. My DH likes Ralph and Boss but as I say, this is all down to personal taste and fit- he'll shop in M&S but wouldn't even set foot in Zara because of the small fit.

For a capsule wardrobe, I'd stick to the below:

Dark denim jeans
Chinos
Few knitted polo neck tops in neutrals
Couple of round neck jumpers
Smart trainers
Chelsea boot or similar
Puffer jacket
Smart casual jacket- bomber/ zip up or wool blazer

@Jellybott I got some really nice maternity stuff from Seraphine (this was a few years ago, I haven't checked them out recently)

kuime · 08/12/2023 09:25

Thanks @frillseeking! Free People is a good shout - always forget about it but they have a couple of styles that might work. And yep, I should just bite the bullet and order a couple of the Maison Hotel ones to try.

frillseeking · 08/12/2023 16:22

@kuime I noticed that Maison Hotel also sell via Monsoon, they might also be worth a look as sometimes they do this kind of look. This MH one for example has a drawstring waist so should give you shape

Thank you! Really like that dress. And hadn't clocked that Monsoon stock Maison Hotel - and some other brands I like the look of. Mostly out of stock but I've signed up for alerts and am keeping fingers crossed!

FinallyFinalGirl · 08/12/2023 22:46

Hi @frillseeking I'm tall and slim - around 5' 10 and just under ten stone, I have medium brown, shoulder length hair, pale skin and blue eyes, I have a 'lanky' physique with long arms.

I have my first dinner party this year coming up next Thursday. A friend from work who is also inviting some VERY wealthy couples. What do you think?? I prefer dark colours.

Thank you so much!

frillseeking · 09/12/2023 13:55

@FinallyFinalGirl for a dinner party I'm thinking elegant and smart rather than party, unless the host has specified otherwise. My first thought was an elegant trouser suit. This whistles crushed velvet one looks very chic and more designer than high street because of the unusual colour and fabric and the colour would compliment your eyes. I know you said you like dark colours but I love this Sandro green dress and it's a good price for a brand. The detail makes it look elevated. I also love the simplicity of this black dress from Ninety Percent at Net a Porter. Let me know what you think and what you had in mind

Thank you @frillseeking. Menswear is indeed tricky and I find that men are more likely to wear a “uniform”. Your suggestions are fab and I have booked a babysitter for all day next Saturday so that DH and I can hit the shops!
