I thought I'd do a Xmas edition of the styling threads I've done before for anyone who is interested 🎄👠

@MandaLynn they're from M&S here but most sizes are now sold out! I've seen them in my local store so might be worth going into a store to have a look.

River island do a similar pair but again they're selling fast. Also available in different leg lengths which is good for the petite and tall gals! - link

I think the jeans are a really nice wearable way in which to wear the look. I've got the Bershka silver PU trousers and I love them but it has taken me a while to wear them. Hubby still not sure 😂

Just popping on to say thanks again @frillseeking for the advice about styling short western boots.
I got a skirt today (inspired by your recommendations) that goes brilliantly. Best of all its dressy-up or equally happy with a band tee. So now I can wear my boots for everything!

lindyloo57 · 19/11/2023 17:56

I tried the harper, but found they had too much material in tummy crotch area, they were a pair I found heavily reduced, so maybe they were not made as well as the ones now stocked

frillseeking · 19/11/2023 19:56

@PowerTulle brilliant, thanks for reporting back! Where did you get your boots from?

blackdressy · 19/11/2023 20:36

@frillseeking
Is it cheeky to ask another?

..what shoes / boots would you recommend with this dress? I don't want to wear sandals in winter!

@blackdressy I'd go for a silver pump or for something a bit more 'party' something like these embellished kitten heels from Monsoon, love the velvet. Boot wise, I love these shoe boots from Carvela and the fluted front looks great with skirts/ dresses

They are from Topshop, but I found them in a charity shop on holiday in Wales!
They look like these ones. I’m in my (ahem) lateish forties so really wanted a bottom half with a bit of edge, which I now have. Skirt was from TK Max , not a brand I recognize - is slim, calf length in black shimmery fabric with a split.

@frillseeking thanks!

Where are the silver ones from? I'd have to try on as I have narrow feet and sometimes this kind of style tends to slip off, but I love the silver!

frillseeking · 20/11/2023 07:42

@blackdressy they're from Mint Velvet x

@frillseeking Thank you! X

frillseeking · 20/11/2023 12:52

@blackdressy no probs. The Spanish high street stores (mango, zara etc) tend to run narrow just as an fyi

That's good to know, thanks

Just to say there are silver pumps in M&S this season, the classic and platform - they are very like these

frillseeking · 21/11/2023 19:43

@Stripedfluffysocks I just had a look and the review says they come up small/ narrow too so could be a good option!

I'm looking for a structured bandeau jumpsuit please. Size 14.

Helenloveschat · 22/11/2023 08:09

@frillseeking I just wanted to say thank you for this thread and for your fantastic advice. I'm learning so much from others questions and your answers! Can I ask if you know of any comfortable undies that also hold in the belly overhang from old caesarian?? It's such a pain! I will also look at finding more structured stiffer jeans as you suggested a while back -hadn't thought of that. I'm 14-16 pear shaped but with a smaller waist so lots of stuff 'bags' at the waist -I loved the lower waist trend!!

BrassicaBabe · 22/11/2023 12:52

Ooh. Glad I found this thread. I stalked it terribly last time!!

I've lost my way. Maybe @frillseeking can help?

  1. 5'7. Put on a stone in the last year and don't know how to dress for it. The weight has gone onto bust and tummy. I think I'm rectangle shape. I've been weight training (hoping to lose weight 🙄) and I've now got a decent bum and thighs are muscled (hiding under the extra stone of fat 🙄)

I've got a wardrobe full of clothes that I can't wear. I like simple: no patterns, frills. I would live in jeans and a skinny jumper. No more!!!

I'm Autumn in colour tone.

I've got these in my basket ready to go. What do you think?! I've got other slip skirts I used to like in olive green

Oh. Think I've gone from a size to 10 to 12. It might not sound terrible but the tummy roll really makes me feel yucky!

BrassicaBabe · 22/11/2023 13:12

Also, @frillseeking Id be interested to be interested to hear about how you work in real life. Are you face to face or remote?

Bigmousestrikesagain · 22/11/2023 16:26

Hello @frillseeking - I was hoping I could be really cheeky and ask another question!

I’ve been bought this dress as a gift - it looks much much nicer in the flesh I have to say and the colours are prettier. I have a party to go to that I’d like to wear it at but am really struggling with what footwear could go with it? It looks good with taupe knee length boots but I need something to dress it up. On the GD website they have it with black boots but tbh I don’t think black really works. Any suggestion at all would be great ( I’m half thinking of returning it as it’s so tricky to match with shoes and boots!)

yesyesitsaparkingone · 22/11/2023 17:51

Just to say thanks so much for all of this @frillseeking ! I haven't bought anything off it yet but have rooted out my cowboy ankle boots and some other things from where they've been languishing in a bag since I moved eight months ago and been trying them all on, so you are helping me NOT buy things too!

Backinthedress · 22/11/2023 17:53

Wonderful thread! I'm wearing this dark green velvet dress to a Christmas party (casino themed, so fairly dressed up) and am not sure what shoes would work. In my wardrobe I have black patent courts, nude patent courts, black sandals that I feel are too summery and some gold sparkly platforms that I'm not convinced I can last the night in.
Any thoughts on a good shoe. Could be persuaded to buy something new if it's just right.

Loubelle70 · 22/11/2023 18:09

Id wear nude heels with that dress and nude bag but sparkly earrings. @Backinthedress
I love the dress btw

frillseeking · 22/11/2023 19:36

Sorry am super busy at the moment.

@Bigmousestrikesagain how formal is the party? I do think the dress is more of a day dress but I would smarten it up like this. Adding accessories pulls the look together and makes the outfit look smarter as it's styled. I agree that black looks quite harsh against the soft colours and I'd stick with the taupe colours to compliment and lift the print
