@Dee1224 Yes it must have been me! Lovely young assistant in a fair isle jumper (generic description of many Toast assistants!). Hello!

I tried on both the orange Harlequin dress and shirt plus navy culottes (nice but slightly weird as one leg is much winder than the other due to the wrap over) and a navy jacket and the silk linen sleeveless dress. Plus a few things from past seasons.

I then retreated to the cafe and drowned my sorrows in a lovely cheese scone. But that dress is still in my thoughts....

faustina · 28/10/2023 19:23

@clowniform - I'm pretty sure it was Wonderwood he got. CDG2 is the very first grown up scent he chose! When he was a teen we spent a very happy couple of hours in Liberty while he chose it - it is a lovely obsession interest that we share and a much nicer memory than the endless hours I had to spend sitting on the floor at Urban outfitters and top man at Oxford Circus with my head in my hands, bored witless.

Dee1224 · 28/10/2023 19:26

I didn’t get to the cafe @MrsCat1 as it was raining and we had the dog, (if you saw a fed up bloke disconsolately walking round with a bouncy husky, that was my OH🤣).

I loved that grey Fairisle she was wearing - we had a chat about it later. I have no intention of paying full price for - yet another- Toast jumper, but it’s definitely on my sale wishlist!

Dee1224 · 28/10/2023 19:32

Ah @PretLea - that makes more sense. If memory serves it was very similar, if not identical to the one in your picture, but the colour was called Oil.

ScottishMouse · 28/10/2023 19:33

Thanks @clowniform. I am sadly not small of bust, so sizing up might be required. Has anyone else tried/got the crinkle pinafore?

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 28/10/2023 19:50

@ToastCosILoveIt I wore my drawstring collar tunic dress for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and I agree it is a lovely understated piece and really comfortable. Although I still don’t understand why it was priced so high originally.

BrontëParsonage · 28/10/2023 20:21

Fascinating thread but I think I need training at Bletchley Park to be able to decode some of your acronyms! Please will someone shed light on SM? I’m about to blow an insane amount of money on the velvet pinafore dress but if there’s a cheaper version - albeit in a different colour way - then I would be supremely happy. Thank you! 🙏🏻

I tried the summer version - the big ecru check on black, after I fell in love with MathildaWears wearing it. I’m a 32G, size 10-12 and despite trying S,M AND L I couldn’t get one to fit. Small had my boobs popping out the side, Medium just wasn’t comfortable, large offered scope for breastfeeding a large baby via the armholes. I gave up.

ScottishMouse · 28/10/2023 20:34

This made me laugh @ilovecherries . I tried the black/ecru one in the summer and had the same issue as with the new version - M was almost perfect but just ever so slightly snug on the bust. But I love the fabric on the new one much more than the black/ecru one so I would really like to make it work. I may order the M and L online and try again.

Dee1224 · 28/10/2023 20:38

🤣@BrontëParsonage SM is Toast’s outlet at Shepton Mallet! I am staying ten minutes away and have been today, (and yesterday).

They have several of the velvet cotton pinafores in various sizes in Oil. They are happy to sell to you over the phone and might - if not busy - let you see an item over Zoom.

However, my understanding, (albeit limited- so I might be wrong - others will know), is that if you order an item over the phone from SM they will only give a credit note if you want to return it.

Dee1224 · 28/10/2023 20:43

I can’t edit my post @Snowyowl78 COTTON not city 🙈

BrontëParsonage · 28/10/2023 20:52

@Dee1224 thank you so much for decoding. I will phone SM tomorrow (see how quickly I catch on!) I already have the velvet skirt in Oil (last year’s model, I think) so I will be happy with that colour. Do you happen to know how much the velvet pinafore was there? I have a thing about Toast velvet, probably because the best things I have ever owned from there were cotton velvet velvet wide leg trousers, about 20 years ago.

Dee1224 · 28/10/2023 20:54

Hi @BrontëParsonage It’s £115 at SM for the velvet in Oil. It fitted tts for me.

dudsville · 28/10/2023 21:22

This thread is so fast moving! What's everyone been wearing? I was in the andy pandy trousers today. The elastic was so tight and stretching didn't help so i made two cuts inside the front waist band, scooched the elastic back by an inch either side. I think that was too much and I'll adjust it again but they are comfy. Wore them with the mango tee under an ecru tee. Very comfy home wear! What's everyone else been wearing? Its v rainy here but still mild so so not really into proper jumpers. Reading about those of you boiling in the wool knitwear got my sympathy!

Thank you so much. I will be on the phone tomorrow. I hate paying full price for anything, let alone Toast!

Countmeout · 29/10/2023 04:38

Rained all day @dudsville . Wore indigo Alix and a lilac shirt bought via John Lewis - so long ago. Quite a weighty shirt. This one.

All this talk of velvet pinafores has me rethinking my aversion on the basis of it being Christmas frock , I do love the idea of it dressed down for daywear.
I’d love to know how the transaction with SM goes @BrontëParsonage
Last time I went there it was in my Mulberry craze 25 yrs ago , not on my trajectory these days .

Stoic123 · 29/10/2023 08:54

@dudsville - yesterday I wore the Kimono Colour Block Jumper in Orange/Wine.

Toast repaired the moth eaten sleeve for me this summer. Holes looked really ugly beforehand - so it's the first time it's been worn in years.

clowniform · 29/10/2023 12:37

Morning all, happy return to Real Time 🕰
Wearing this Toast cardigan with beige Uniqlo C skirt (the shade matches the embroidery detail on the cardigan exactly, by happy accident) and sheer off-black tights with converse hi-tops. Just back from routine farmers' market/library trip and planning a very domestic rest of day. Making mincemeat, baking something apple-y from Juergen off Bakeoff's book and hopefully finishing sewing imitation Annies in burgundy cord, with M&M Quinn pattern. (I tried the real Toast ones @Alpacasoft posted about but the pocket openings were very bulgy on my hips).

So I know exactly what you mean about the bulge on the jacquard dresses @MrsCat1. Having inspected the insides in the changing room I don't think it could be addressed by ironing, would require unpicking and redistributing the gathers and/or sewing down the side panels which would mess with the pockets. It is a bit cheeky to have only photos with models' hands in pockets or carefully angled away.

@ToastCosILoveIt which is the tie-neck dress you mean please? My next outfit for the painted skirt will involve this COS wool jacket but I'm also excited to pair it with basically every jumper I own 😅

@faustina So lovely that your DS is a fellow scent-lover (with precociously excellent taste). I inflicted some real stinkers on my parents in my teens. Was a goth, Saturday job in Camden, will leave it there....😁

@OftenOrange I have just ordered a velvet pinafore dress in Oil (last winter’s model) from Shepton Mallett for £115, instead of £195. Even better, I was able to use my Kindred free postage! Thank you so much for the tip-off @Dee1224! I am most definitely not saving the pinafore for Christmas.

Dee1224 · 29/10/2023 13:39

You are welcome @BrontëParsonage - so glad it worked out!

MrsCat1 · 29/10/2023 13:51

@clowniform Thank you for your wise words and I'm reassured that it wasn't just me. I'm still thinking about that dress but maybe it is one for the sale when I could unpick the waist seam (I've done quite a few alterations in the past on Toast purchases). I've got quite a few nice events coming up and wanted a lovely new outfit but I've just rifled through the Toast 'smarter occasion' section of my wardrobe and have come up with a couple of possibles!

ToastCosILoveIt · 29/10/2023 15:41

@clowniform , this is the dress, it really is lovely in real life. I like the way it has been styled in this photo too with a stripy tee underneath.

faustina · 29/10/2023 17:11

@ToastCosILoveIt - I was so tempted to buy that dress- the only thing that stopped me was the length. What do you wear with it? ( for me I think with ankle boots it wouldn't do my legs any favours)
