…..a “Rains” rain jacket.

It was the first rainy autumnal feeling day this season and almost every adult was wearing a Rains rain coat, including me.

I mean I didn’t buy it to be ‘radical’ or ‘different’ - but I didn’t realise they were such a thing?! Like a uniform. Made me laugh a bit.

Is it the same in other places?

I’m in an affluent town commuter distance from London.

ugly things can be ubiquitous.

Never seen an Ugg boot?

Or a puffer jacket?

StarlightLime · 12/10/2023 23:19

Are those coats ubiquitous in your town/city? I live in London and I'd never even heard of them. Comparing them to Uggs is ridiculous.

Why is it ridiculous? Ugly things can become ubiquitous. Hardly a mindblowing concept.

1035tg · 12/10/2023 23:23

They are/were popular where I live. It feels like they've been around a long time, I'm surprised many haven't heard of them.

StarlightLime · 12/10/2023 23:26

Uggs are extraordinarily popular (despite their ugliness). You can't compare such a huge brand to a raincoat few people have seen or heard of, there's no comparison to be made Confused

PangramAddict · 12/10/2023 23:26

How could you tell they were all the same brand? Do they have a tag or something, they look so plain.

Justleaveitblankthen · 12/10/2023 23:26

fearfuloffluff · 12/10/2023 18:47

Ha, I've seen a few of those.

I was once in a playpark and every single one of the other 8 mums was wearing Lucy and yak dungarees.

Crikey? Where is this?
They haven't caught on here up north yet thankfully
Haven't seen anyone in dungarees since Dexy's midnight Runners circa 1983

StarlightLime · 12/10/2023 23:27

NatashaDancing · 12/10/2023 23:22

Or a puffer jacket?

That really wasn't the point I was making.

Are you always like this?

MrsSkylerWhite · 12/10/2023 23:27

Not in mine. Never heard of them.

Do you work for Rains?

StarlightLime · 12/10/2023 23:29

MrsDanversChickenSandwich · 12/10/2023 23:27

Like what, exactly?

Wolvesart · 12/10/2023 23:31

It’s a bit like a variation on The Emperor’s New Clothes. No nudity involved but it sounds like fashion branding has convinced people these coats look any different from any other waterproof design based on practical ramblers wear or actual rambling/hiking jackets. The only important question is ‘are they breathable?’ Slightly doubt the £79 one is.

DennySaid · 12/10/2023 23:34

Oh I’m interested in this because I was thinking of getting one. Only seen on insta though, maybe I need to keep my eyes open in my centralish bit of London. Appeal for me is that they are more utility chic and less ‘wear with zip-off trousers’, but if they let water in I will pass. I do think they are quite chic though.

Dungarees seem to be in - Primark has some at the mo

bluedomino · 12/10/2023 23:48

They look a bit sweaty but I found myself looking into the Aline one wondering what it would be like to have a coat that would zip up around my county sized backside and thunder thighs. Most raincoat are mens straight shape just "pinked and shrinked" so no good for me.

Dry robes are boiling hot so I was amazed that people were able to wear them in the summer without passing out. They even had dry robe carseat covers. It's like a badge to show people how rich you are I suppose.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 12/10/2023 23:57

I'm wearing the Tesco version for £39 🤣

Puffer jackets are ugly and ubiquitous.

I've heard of this brand. A local independent shop stocked them last year but isn't carrying them this year. They're not very nice.

I really dislike that style of clothing and wouldn't go looking for it. I've heard of it.

I've just Googled too, as I have never heard of them.

Going by the website, they are aimed at zombies?

This made me laugh so much

Crucible · 13/10/2023 01:04

Just had a look at the website, they all look like they're working the wet fish market and they're all being made redundant.

pieintheski · 13/10/2023 01:10

how do you know? just googled and they look totally generic

Notateacheranymore · 13/10/2023 06:18

Never heard of them, looked at website and thought they were the kind of thing that would make me look like the size of a house. So shapeless.

MintJulia · 13/10/2023 06:19

I just had to google too. God, they're horrible.

Thankfully, no, I haven't noticed them. Here we have Barbours, trench coats or umbrellas with ordinary summer clothes, but when it gets cold they'll switch to wool coats and brollies, quilted coats or Gortex.

The OP is not excited..... she started a thread on a very valid Style & Beauty topic...

Why the unpleasant tone? The OP's post is appropriate, yours is unnecessary

Agree. It’s the Style and Beauty topic and she’s talking about what people are wearing.

TakingTheLowRoad · 13/10/2023 06:29

someone I know who works in a high end department store couldn’t wait to get their hands on one. I have both the micro and mini tote for work/carrying my lunch/ flying and they’re good quality - sturdy and lined. And I agree the models and styling on the website is bonkers but they’re pretty good quality for fashion raincoat but not if you’re looking for something durable. And they don’t smell!
