…..a “Rains” rain jacket.

It was the first rainy autumnal feeling day this season and almost every adult was wearing a Rains rain coat, including me.

I mean I didn’t buy it to be ‘radical’ or ‘different’ - but I didn’t realise they were such a thing?! Like a uniform. Made me laugh a bit.

Is it the same in other places?

I’m in an affluent town commuter distance from London.

I've just Googled too, as I have never heard of them.

Going by the website, they are aimed at zombies?

That's a genius comment

Who on earth looks at that website and thinks "oooh that's the one for me! So flattering and well fitting, everyone looks so happy in them"

🤣🤣🤣🤣

dc1 is now 13 in year 9. When he was in reception, the first week it was rainy at drop off, I looked round the playground reception parents dropped off in and realised that more than 10 woman were wearing the Boden “rainy day Mac” - in a selection of patterns and colours, some from that year, some from the previous collections. ( I’d just placed an order for one and suddenly regretted my choice.)

I’m not sure Boden do it anymore. Which is a shame as it was a bloody good coat, just most of the pattern options were quite busy .

Am assuming Rains is this years sensible coat of choice amongst middle class people who’ve decided they need to prioritise being dry and warm over stylish.

They look like plastic sweaty raincoats to me, nothing special. Funny what catches on. I hadn't heard of the brand either.

Here shackets are still the go to for fall (very popular last year). Over 30's are wearing them with their leggings still, under 30's with wide leg jeans. Blundstones and Birkenstocks still most popular footwear, or black and white runners, mostly Adidas and Nike.

West Coast Canada area. We get a lot of rain, but raincoats don't come out unless it's a downpour! Lululemon or Helly Hansen are most popular.

Had to google - they're awful!

They really are! I hadn't heard either so had a look and they are rotten looking things.

I also am not sure about affordable - I mean I am seeing the € price as in Ireland - but they are €80 which I don't think I'd say is 'affordable'. I'd want to like it a lot to pay €80!

EveryKneeShallBow · 12/10/2023 19:13

Horrible. No accounting for taste, eh?

SirenSays · 12/10/2023 19:14

They look like they have that horrible plasticky smell

Fishandchipsatthebeach · 12/10/2023 19:14

Nope not trying to flog them don’t work for them.

I actually first heard about them on here when I was looking for a non-hiking type waterproof jacket over the summer.

I got mine on Vinted for a good price so if I decide against it it’s no great loss, I can re-sell or re-home.

i guess it was because it was Raining?

Mynewnameis · 12/10/2023 19:17

Not sure they would stand out enough for me to notice them. A bit boring.

Justletpeopleenjoythings · 12/10/2023 19:18

No one I know could even afford one.

This summer in North Cornwall every man, woman and child was wearing a Dry Robe. It was like being surrounded by penguins.

Easy to spot the locals though.

ThickSkinnedSoWhat · 12/10/2023 19:22

I had to Google it. I had a coat almost identical last year from New look at about a quarter of the price. I don't think it looks worth that price, no offence.

StarlightLime · 12/10/2023 19:23

I've never heard of them. They look like generic raincoats to me, nothing remarkable about them. Why are you so aware of what brand everyone around you wears in the rain?

SarahAndQuack · 12/10/2023 19:23

Never heard of them.

Raincoats are very practical and I'm sure there is a time and a place for them, but I'm an adult who works mostly out of doors and is a keen walker and I've not owned once since I was a child. There's a reason for that.

GunboatDiplomacy · 12/10/2023 19:25

I have been driven by your comments to check out the website, and indeed the models don't exactly exude the sense of warm dry cosiness I ideally want from a winter coat.

I am reminded of my favourite historian's family holiday tweet.

Today almost every single adult in my town was wearing …..
NeverDropYourMooncup · 12/10/2023 19:26

What's so special about a beige, grey, pink or black Cagoule that they can get away with charging over a hundred notes for it? They're not even properly waterproof, going by the 'light rain' ratings.

Lonesomefetter · 12/10/2023 19:27

I think this is an advert Hmm

That doesn't sound too bad imo 😂

SloraceHughorn · 12/10/2023 19:28

This often happens to me with my yellow Joules raincoat. So very yellow and popular.

IncognitoMam · 12/10/2023 19:30

I'll stick with my haglöfs thanks. Expensive but looks decent and keeps out a lot of rain.

Lilibert456 · 12/10/2023 19:30

Just had a look at them. Ugly.

TomatoSandwiches · 12/10/2023 19:30

Just had a Google, pretty sure they exude old dirty flasher vibe.

LaCerbiatta · 12/10/2023 19:32

GodDammitCecil · 12/10/2023 18:54

Odd thread, to be honest. Imagine being so excited about wearing the same raincoat as other people, you were moved to start a thread about it.

Are you trying to flog them, OP?

The OP is not excited..... she started a thread on a very valid Style & Beauty topic...

Why the unpleasant tone? The OP's post is appropriate, yours is unnecessary

Breakingpoint1961 · 12/10/2023 19:33

Never heard of them so off I went to google..🤦🏼‍♀️I've never seen such a sorry website..do people actually wear those clothes🤔😮

Money can't buy class..
