That's a beautiful shade @Laska2Meryls ! Thank you for sharing your dyeing exploits previously too, you inspired me to give it a try with a sale Uniqlo denim jacket and I love the result!

Ah great, so glad it worked out ...

No1Mousie · 27/09/2023 18:49

So I had finally decided to order this, I think it’ll be really versatile with different shirts and tops under …

But then I spotted this, which looks lovely too, but completely different sort of dress and I always struggle to get cardigans and jumpers on over cord …

No1Mousie · 27/09/2023 18:53

And here’s the photo Cord dress

Love to know what you think of that - it's one I've my eye on.

I very rarely post these days as I am determined not to buy any Toast until at least the Xmas sales and this thread makes me do expensive things! (But love the dyeing chat and am going to check out Uniqlo now as never really looked there)

Had to laugh today though when I tried on the blue and navy check culottes with the skirt bits from last year/year before to try and figure out how I could make them work - only worn them once! - put my hands in the pockets and they were the wrong way round! I thought, ah, I've read about this on the thread bloomin Toast QC ... and then I looked more closely and saw that I was actually wearing them back to front. Tbf its a bit difficult to tell with those - and funnily enough they'll be easier to make work the correct way round! 😆

It only goes up to 14? 😡Toast are definitely sizing people out !!!!!

Omg! So utterly does! Why are they doing this???
Shocking!

Ha! Don't know if I can hold out that long.

No1Mousie · 27/09/2023 19:22

@agnesmartin that made me laugh! Will report back on the denim dress … and possibly the cord one too if my self control fails

No1Mousie · 27/09/2023 19:24

@Stoic123 what would happen if the model raised her arms? Can see it rolling up or popping off!

Snowyowl78 · 27/09/2023 19:28

I’m wondering if that’s some kind of error, no other dresses stop at 14

Maybe supply issues?

Who is wearing a 6 anyway, I thought we were all getting larger?
(Apologies to any lifelong size 6's.)
Is this newfangled Toast 6 more like an olden 10, so a 14 is still an 18?
Or perhaps Toast is becoming popular in more petite/svelte territories, and sizing accordingly?

clowniform · 27/09/2023 19:33

@agnesmartin 😁Not a mistake I could ever personally make, but I do frequently put tops on back to front. A sewing friend even got me some 'This is the back' labels for Christmas.

In adjacent brands news, Poetry has lots of checked, cord and artsy print dresses at the mo, but in silks rather than viscose and some interesting wool blends (and up to size 22). I tried on this checked hemp-cotton-yak one which has a similar subtle crinkle and bib yoke/cut-on sleeve to ones Toast is also doing currently. Would have bought it if I were shorter or it longer!

Poetry - Checked button-through dress

Featuring an exclusive texture check design on a new fabric that blends cotton, hemp and yak, this versatile relaxed fit dress has a gentle A-line from the waist, three-quarter length sleeves and a neat collar. Fastened with corozo buttons, it also has...

I might have to pop into a shop this weekend for a mini experiment!

I think it is the other way around! I have a couple of pairs of old Gabis and Alix in a 6, though I am most definitely a 10 on my bottom half. But new sizing trousers I tried on recently I had to try a 12! So if that is the way it is going, then a new 6 is more like a real life 4! And a new 14 would be a real life 12.
But….this would be too simple. I think the sizing of individual items is still ridiculously inconsistent, if not more so than previously.
I noticed a review on something today (can’t remember which piece it was) that was praising the new sizing as being much better and very consistent. I wonder if that person had not tried on many things, because that has not been my experience.

Not sure I'm a fan of this one. Thoughts?

I had something rather similar to this from Jigsaw many moons ago (probably 20 years). I do not feel in any way nostalgic for that period in my life, so this would be an absolute no for me. Besides how impractical it is.

I think there is a denim dress in the same shape as the cord one. I might also have my eye on that one … 🙈

I think you'll find it depends on the phases of the moon. Are you even a 🍄 forager? tuts

Although I have recently spotted 2 (smaller) colleagues wearing Toast items who would previously have definitely been sized out so maybe it does represent a deliberate shift, which would be disappointing. And weirdly counter to what other upmarket brands are doing.

No1Mousie · 27/09/2023 20:04

@clowniform that poetry dress is nice! Was it very short?

faustina · 27/09/2023 20:12

That poncho looks odd and I can't think of a situation where it would work - too short to be useful, but too long to wear under a coat. How odd!

The new sizing is still just as inconsistent as the old one - some things are tinier in a six and some most definitely aren't. I would love to see what their fit model is like

I like the new donegal jumpers but two out of three of the pics of them being worn make the model look a bit uncomfortable - like it doesn't fit properly at the shoulders? I might try one in store if I make it to London on Saturday

If anyone else is like me and enjoys preloved, there's a good company online called Nearly New Cashmere where they buy, wash, debobble and resell preloved 100% cashmere. They often have Brora, Loro Piana and some new Scottish Cashmere though you pay a bit more for that. I've only bought one thing - last year a black Cos cardigan (and that was fine) but I follow them on Instagram too. Anyway! They do this thing called 'bestsellers' collection which they release on Sunday if you sign up for the pre-release. It's quite good if anyone is on the hunt for something nice. I also had something similar from gap. It was completely impractical for Scottish weather which mostly rains. Maybe fine for those that live in dryer conditions. I just got no wear out of it. On days where it was crisp and dry, my outfit didn't suit it and on days where it did, it was pouring. Not warm enough to wear on its own outside and won't work with a jacket. So would also be a no from me.
