Are we going to buy or have we peaked?

What is the bloody point of 12 day advent calendar?

They should call it a '12 days of Christmas' calendar if intended for that period. A 12 day 'advent' calendar just doesn't make sense.

Agree

@QueefofSheena stay away from TOYL! She's an absolute crook, the woman who runs it.

Don't ask me how I know personally as I'll
Never tell but google her name and 'All
boxed Up' to go down a bit of a rabbit hole

Thanks! I'll have a look

clary · 15/09/2023 22:58

Ok I have created my table of good things and big negatives. I'm not fussed about (for example) AB cream as tho I don't like it, I know others do and it always sells on ebay.

I have realised the things I use up are serums and night oils, plus fragrances. Quite a few have Sunday Riley GG which I love, also Spce NK has the SR CEO serum which I liked to much last year I RPd it. No fragrance in that one tho ...

I am not much nearer a decision tbh but it's between JLP (new colours in palette, nice edp, SR GG tho small, Neom candle and pillow spray); Liberty (three fragrances! like the sound of the Berlin one; SR night oil which I also like and Votary serum); and possibly Harvey Nicks as it has such a good range of fragrance (tho some are small). Space NK is an outsider - no fragrance at all but SR serum and amazing Farmacy cleanser as well.

Ahhhhh decisions!

QueefofSheena · 15/09/2023 23:10

Having seen the full list for Glossybox I'll definitely get it if it gets reduced as usual. I've already ordered Liberty so I won't need anything for ages.

I really like the look of the De Bijenkorf one shown on https://beautyadventcalendar.net/de-bijenkorf-advent-calendar-2023/
Does anyone know if we can ship it to the UK?

It looks like there are atomisers in it so very unlikely.

It looks really good though and very reasonably priced.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 16/09/2023 10:11

@Fancyateapottea I threw it in my basket and went to checkout. They only deliver to the Netherlands and Belgium.

Fancyateapottea · 16/09/2023 10:15

Thanks for looking 🙂Such a shame, it looks like a great calendar for the price.

Oooh. I'm off to the Netherlands in November. Wonder if they'll have them in store. Definitely a contender.

clary · 16/09/2023 10:28

hmmmmm have narrowed it down to Liberty or JLP. Drawn to JLP for the colours in the CT palette tho I have MANY, plus the fragrance you all say you love. But Liberty has more fragrances and Votary plus SR night oil...

On a positive, I have put four AC boxes on ebay and have sold the two Liberty ones for £10.50 and £11 currently, which is some very handy money for nothing.Grin

Hopefully we'll see you on the waifs and strays thread with it in December.

Wouldn't it be great if there was a spreadsheet where you could put in your criteria, e.g. full size moisturiser, eyeshadow palette, perfume and items you don't want, the AB cream & nail varnish? There would be lots of preferences, price etc & it would narrow down your perfect AC. There would be choices, e.g Liberty is an 89% match. If you click through you'd then get a discount code.
I know a lot of the fun is reading through descriptions & watching videos too, but this would be fun. The information gleaned on preferences/popularity/demographics could be sold to AC companies so they could make them even more perfect.

SoloCat · 16/09/2023 12:45

I succumbed to the Space NK.
I’ve never tried the KS goat milk cleanser, been wanting to try it for a while. I do also like the BS cleanser, plus they have quite a lot of products I already use, or have tried before. There are a couple of DOD’s, but thankfully not many. I watched an unboxing….it swung me!
I really like Dyptique, but not sure if I’d prefer the Christmas full size candles.

Feeling all festive now 🎁🎄🎁

moimichme · 16/09/2023 13:51

I really don't need any this year, but feel tempted by the Next Beauty one because it's got a lot of products I know I'll use and several that look interesting. Plus the price is more in my range.

I'm also quite tempted by Sephora, but might wait to see if they offer a discount - and if it sells out meanwhile, then it wasn't meant to be! Will hold on until I get paid at the end of September I think, and then try to decide based on whether Next and/or Sephora are still available.

BaconAndAvocado · 16/09/2023 14:33

moimichme I received the Next AC last week. It’s beautiful.

I’m trying my hardest not to have a look at the leaflet with all the products in it! Want to have a surprise each day.

Also got the Boots Macmillan as it was half price and might get the M and S as it’s reasonably priced, although I’m not keen on the bag it comes in.

DD is considering getting the ASOS one.

rubyslippers · 16/09/2023 15:33

I have bought the space NK calendar today
the CT eye shadow looks lush

ferretface · 16/09/2023 15:52

How likely is it that Glossybox will end up discounted, do we think? Does it usually happen or only sometimes?

Tambatamba · 16/09/2023 16:10

Things only get discounted if they don't sell well so it's hard to predict. I would think that the cost of living crisis will affect enough people but it's hard to say isn't it. Because when people are broke, they still spend on beauty. The JL one was discounted last year until it sold out I remember.

I usually find that the best solution to an advent calendar buying dilemma is to buy both, in order to avoid the discomfort of having to make a decision Grin

Yes it's very hard to predict. My guess is that they'll struggle to shift Cult Beauty this year, so we may well see a discount on that. Look Fantastic usually has a discount code, and I think we'll see one again this year. Possibly also John Lewis. JL reduced last year, and this year they've made it more expensive, but haven't improved the product selection. I wonder whether they've priced with a discount in mind.

It's very hard to predict though, and obviously risky to wait if it's the one that your really want!

Ah yes that may be the way forward lol. I mean I had three last year Blush so I would be getting better...

magneticmoon · 16/09/2023 18:39

I've been pondering advent calendar purchase this year. None really standing out. And I'm packing to move house, have realised how many products I have, both new and half used. Has given pause for thought, do I really need more. Might set a challenge to use what I have for advent instead.

moimichme · 16/09/2023 20:41

Ooh that's good to hear, @BaconAndAvocado - but it's my DH birthday this week, and what with gifts and a birthday dinner, I'm trying to hold on budget wise until my next payday! If Next sells out then I'll be disappointed but I really don't need one...or so I say now...!

My Plan B (or C?) is to hopefully pick up the Lumene one if it is discounted like last year, because although sizes are small, their stuff is good for my skin and there's a couple of makeup items too - in the right ratio for me. So we'll see.

CinnamonCoffee · 16/09/2023 21:54

The surprise product for liberty is released. I have ordered but now I'm having second thoughts and may cancel. One door is a teeny tiny soap which I thought they may of paired with another product but no, just soap! And day 25 is actually awful.
