Are we going to buy or have we peaked?

Get it @MidnightMeltdown - it’s fab this year. It hasn’t remotely interested me for the last couple of years but this one has so much in that I either already use or would like to try, only 2 things I won’t use (CT eyeshadow palette and probably the retinal as I already use dermatica) - everything else I’ll use - including the dreadful augustinus Bader - it’s good on the knees!

Augustinus Bader on the knees?? I think it's amazing! But I have dry skin. Mind you, they have a rich version and a non rich version.

clary · 14/09/2023 15:51

I may also end up doing up a second one myself. There are a few edits that I could get and put them in an old box.

haha you’re my kind of gal @OchonAgusOchonOh. I’ve fetched out my F&M calendar box from 2021 (too pretty to sell) and filled it with m and s £25 box and a few other bits.

Must buy another tho. Almost decided!

CocoMascara · 14/09/2023 15:51

@SwordBilledHummingbird I think they normally do, there are some die hard Diptyque fans out there, but I’m not completely sure. Diptyque is another calendar that I obsess over and then regret not buying! There’s a nice Diptyque FB group, people on that often post each days draw content, so I make do with that and a Sapin candle each Xmas!

And it's recycling (sort of) so we can even feel extra virtuous😁

Georgieporgie29 · 14/09/2023 16:04

Is there such a thing as a mens aftershave calendar? Even one with just samples?

SwordBilledHummingbird · 14/09/2023 16:11

@CocoMascara I'd better not hang around deciding for too long then!

OchonAgusOchonOh · 14/09/2023 16:19

My boots premium one has been dispatched. That was quick!

Roundaboot · 14/09/2023 16:20

I was looking for one for my 16 year old DS but couldn't find any. I'm putting oje together with samples from ebay and the pick and mix samples from Sephora that another poster kindly linked to.
Have you ever used The Perfume Society? They do discovery boxes of fragrance samples and there are a couple of men's boxes

Georgieporgie29 · 14/09/2023 16:26

Ah yea good shout about the perfume society, I’ll have a look. Thank you.

CocoMascara · 14/09/2023 16:28

@SwordBilledHummingbird 👏it looks beautiful. You and your home will smell divine!!

Same. And even better, it’s with An Post 😆

Getting the sense that I am very much in the minority for choosing the LF one but it arrived today, so wanted to feed back to anyone who wants to know:
Bottom line - it looks... ok 😶 - overall quite heavy but the box material itself is not, so it has a slightly flimsy feel when pulling individual drawers out. Also some of the drawers are MUCH bigger than the drawer contents - adding to the flimsy feel and with a bit of 'promising but not delivering' IYKWIM.
I'm fine with it though as it's for me, not a gift, and I really will use all the contents (can't get enough NARS Orgasm!)... and I got a discount of about £18 so decent VFM too.

Growlybear83 · 14/09/2023 17:39

Has anyone ever tried any of the Arran products? I looked at their advent calendar last year and have just been looking at it again now. There's a 20% discount on the first order as well as a free gift for spending one £50, so the cost of the calendar and free gift comes down to £56.

I've had a couple in GWPs over the years. Not terribly impressed but I know a lot of people love them.

An FYI - the first purchase discount rarely works on the advent calendars. I've tried it on a few different ones over the years.

Growlybear83 · 14/09/2023 18:20

Thank you! I wasn't expecting it, but the discount is showing in my basket but I'm very undecided, although it would be cheap. There seems to be quite a lot of hair products, which I'm not sure I would use, and not very much fragrance.

I had the Arran advent calendar about 4yrs ago and unless they've dramatically upped their game, I wouldn't recommend it.
The products were like the old fashioned mini's you used to get in a basic hotel.
The box itself was lovely but I just wasn't impressed.

Tambatamba · 14/09/2023 07:48

I really do not like the Huda lipsticks - I've had countless ones in beauty boxes over the years and I find them unflattering and uncomfortable. Charlotte tilbury is my favourite for make up.

Does anyone remember when Eltoria decided to make her own advent calendars and charged £50 but just boxed up items from her gifted influencer advent calendars (and plastic crap from China) which people opened to find they had been used! People were livid.

I didn't know that but it's hilarious! She is so annoying.

CountryCob · 14/09/2023 18:51

I remember that! Having had 2/(3) various beauty calendars for a few years now my stash is huge and I have a cowshed one already. Nothing I really want at the moment although I would love a nice one with make up I would wear mixed in. Was considering M&S addition but don't like the make up colours, hmmmmm

Growlybear83 · 14/09/2023 18:59

Thanks eaumyword, that's really helped me to make up my mind. I've emptied my basket!

Nearlyadoctor · 14/09/2023 19:43

@Growlybear83 I had the Arran one 2 years ago, the packaging and design were beautiful and the products smelt lovely but it was just like getting lots of small hotel complimentary soaps, shampoo etc and all the same size. I wouldn’t recommend

Someaddedsugar · 14/09/2023 20:32

My F&M calendar arrived today and as PP has said it is gorgeous. Just a reminder with F&M to check each drawer before stashing away. Last year a poster on these threads shared this as a reminder after opening hers to find one of the bottles had leaked.

I'm ever so slightly gutted I didn't realise Daylesford were doing an all rounder advent calendar. Although I'm not a fan of the felted decorations, the rest of the contents look really good and a bit different with a mix of food and beauty.

narniabusiness · 14/09/2023 20:38

I didn’t know about the Daylesford either and I like the look of it, but then I think an average of £10 per item seems a bit steep for a few biscuits or a chocolate coin. If it gets reduced though ..,

Someaddedsugar · 14/09/2023 20:40

That's a good point @narniabusiness. Those decorations can't be £10 each either. If it does get reduced I might be considering it as a nice gift for post-Christmas to hold of the January blues 😂

Bananaman123 · 14/09/2023 20:51

I feel like I’ve gone full circle and decided to buy Elemis as I know I’ll use every product in it. Ended up buying a few next beauty boxes too

Bananaman123 · 14/09/2023 20:54

The fact the entourage got away with it was ridiculous. She even made a cheeky angry video trying to defend herself
