Apparently skinny jeans are back 'in'!

All I can say is 'Ha! Ha!'.

I've still got them in my wardrobe. Won't be fairly embarrassed wearing them now. Will also keep on enjoying me wide legs and 'mum' styles.

It made me giggle, though. It seems that as soon as anyone approaching middle aged wearing any particular style happens then a new an opposite style has to occur! 😂 Well, 'Mwhah, ha, ha!It takes me a while to throw stuff away. So I will remain perfectly cutting edge.😁'.

I’d also like a low rise/mid rise jean to come back (heard they were) as I don’t like the high rise jeans

Poor Britney doesn't seem to have ever realised they went out of fashion so there's still a chance they will come back 😅

Yettisrus29 · 09/09/2023 16:12

Good. Mom jeans remind me of something from the 80s and early 90s. Absolutely hideous and so not flattering on most people above 20.

dontgobaconmyheart · 09/09/2023 18:21

I haven't worn skinnies in several years now and can't see myself wanting to, particularly on the basis of one opinion or article but I don't think any of it really matters. I don't think anyone's really won any moral or posturing victory by choosing to wear a pair or not. They are useful and necessary if you're someone who wants to tuck into boots in winter (not for me either so they don't fit into my wardrobe now at all).

I tried a pair on a little while back when I was doing a clearout - came across a rogue old pair - and yes they do make me look slimmer I suppose but my honest thought was that I would never want to wear them out at this point. I find my shirts/jumpers etc all look better/on trend tucked into other styles of jeans or trousers and that's what I tend to wear now - tailored trousers, wide leg or slim mom jeans as an alternative to skinnies. Jeans aren't something I reach for daily.

StevieFlick · 09/09/2023 19:14

I don't think they ever went "out" as they've been constant bestsellers at Next and other shops for years.

I'm also thinking Ha Ha but you'll get some dimbat declaring "skinnies are out" - the actual data says otherwise though 😉

User19543785 · 09/09/2023 22:01

I don't think they ever went out of fashion, I don't wear them as I have quite bandy legs and huge gap between them so they don't really suit me.

User19543785 · 09/09/2023 22:05

I never wear jeans if it's cold and wet, I usually wear walking type trousers.

WellPlaced · 09/09/2023 22:13

I don’t wear jeans or Boden.

not sure which pigeon hole I fit into, maybe an escapee

Mrs86 · 09/09/2023 22:25

I don't like skinny jeans, they've never suited me!

I love wide leg, like wide all the way from the thigh down or then the original boyfriend style jeans. Loose and wide-ish straight-ish leg. I have searched high and low for boyfriend jeans and can never find a pair 😔

I chucked all the skinnies I owned around 2011-ish. Also put loads of weight on so they looked even worse on me. I know some ppl live in them and they look good on them.

Mum boots and sketchers have always been available too but that doesn't mean they are in fashion. Fashion and what some shops sell are not the same thing.

meanderingbrook · 09/09/2023 22:49

@ohboohoo, 😁. I indeed it ironic that MN would coin the term 'mum boots' in a derogatory fashion! Well they're back in too! See the real irony is anything that 'MN self appointed fashionistas' hate is bound to become the next 'in' thing.

Because if there's anything the youth will want to rebel against it's their 'judgemental parents'! Judgemental parent types will also make lots of 'cool' stuff immediately 'uncool' by wearing it!😉 (and then start trying to change the language in an attempt to foil us!)

So consider justice to be done. It'll be sketchers next.....!

So @ohboohoo what (anti) fashion are you busy creating?

Mum boots have been considered uncool for about 30 years. If they become in again, it won't be because people just decided they were uncool.

I didn’t stop wearing them the first time! Recently bought some new pairs and they suit my height and frame so well, very happy.

I never chucked my skinny jeans out as I don't follow trends unless I love them and they're my style.
Skinny jeans will always be in come A/W because of the weather and the ability to tuck them in to boots- who wants sopping wet wide leg jeans flapping around your ankles all day?

ell87 · 10/09/2023 00:00

I've never stopped wearing them. Trends are for sheep!

StevieFlick · 10/09/2023 07:54

"Mum boots"..... woweee. Just when you think it's 2023 - someone comes along with another derogatory term.

Says more about your personality than it does about your wardrobe.

Yettisrus29 · 10/09/2023 11:01

What are Mum boots? I'm now intrigued.

Unless it's really cold I don't wear boots except with skirts.

LolaSmiles · 10/09/2023 12:54

I'm also curious what "mum boots" are.

I suspect it's going to be some form of Chelsea boot.

In my area a couple of years ago the mum uniform was skinny jeans, black or tan Chelsea boots and breton tops.

I like the look of those boots but they look bloody awful on me so I spent a few too many years in knee high boots long after they had fallen out of style.

PaulaZackMayo · 10/09/2023 15:17

I think they are flat ankle boots. I've seen them discussed before. I do have to have a chunky boot 👢

I hope they keep the high rise jeans as an option if they bring out low rise jeans. As a tall person low rise jeans just slide down on me and are incredibly uncomfortable.

Stripeypyjamas · 08/09/2023 14:42

They have to come in for winter because no one is stuffing their boots full of piles of material from mum or bootcut jeans. And you can't have jeans on the outside unless you want to wick water up to your knees.

You can if you don't live in the UK 😎
