Apparently skinny jeans are back 'in'!

All I can say is 'Ha! Ha!'.

I've still got them in my wardrobe. Won't be fairly embarrassed wearing them now. Will also keep on enjoying me wide legs and 'mum' styles.

It made me giggle, though. It seems that as soon as anyone approaching middle aged wearing any particular style happens then a new an opposite style has to occur! 😂 Well, 'Mwhah, ha, ha!It takes me a while to throw stuff away. So I will remain perfectly cutting edge.😁'.

@Furryrug I think I got the 'embarrassment' gene big. Strangely enough my DH is lacking in that department. Uni aged son takes after me. We have some fun!!!😂

I've been wearing bootleg & flares but just bought a pair of black skinny for winter.

Stripeypyjamas · 08/09/2023 14:42

They have to come in for winter because no one is stuffing their boots full of piles of material from mum or bootcut jeans. And you can't have jeans on the outside unless you want to wick water up to your knees.

meanderingbrook · 08/09/2023 14:44

@Stripeypyjamas I managed in the 90s and early naughties by wearing massive platform boots. Not going to do that now. The reason I liked pleathers sooo much was they are waterproof in the rain!!!👍

I know I thought this too but they’ve been out of fashion for years. Don’t know how people style other jeans in winter. Think they have their Mum /baggy jeans sitting over a boot or stopping just short of a trainer. Then you need to add a warm coat.

I can’t bear that silhouette- baggy trousers, baggy chunky top. I look like a bag lady. I took to wearing sports leggings last year (though that is my workwear) so I could wear my warm chunky boots and massive puffer.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 08/09/2023 14:48

I've never stopped wearing them and never
I have a very small frame and they fit me perfectly
They are my daily uniform
Denim shorts or dresses in summer

NearlyMonday · 08/09/2023 14:49

Please can I carry on wearing my boot cut jeans??????

dikwad · 08/09/2023 14:51

I've never stopped wearing them! They're the only jeans that suit me and I cannot stand the 'mum' jeans look! I'm not sure who decides whether a certain style of jeans is 'out' and who are these fools that listen?! I'll continue with my 8 pairs of diesel skinnies happy in the knowledge that no-one tells me what to wear!

Wishimaywishimight · 08/09/2023 14:52

I never stopped wearing them, they are absolutely the most flattering jeans in my opinion. I always thought those very high waisted jeans are hideous - they make the nicest of figures look inflated belly-wise!

BookHereNoFee · 08/09/2023 14:52

An outfit I really like (and that is flattering to my non flat stomach is skinny jeans with doc martens with an over sized t shirt left untucked and a blazer. Super comfy and feel put together.

Also wore the low Ugg boots with the fleecy socks and an oversized jumper as well.

Bring on autumn - my favourite style time of year.

I still have a pair of those too - along with my skinnies they are my favourites!

Delatron · 08/09/2023 14:53

I fully admit I’m a slave to fashion. I will pick and choose the trends that suit though. So instead of Mum jeans that look awful on me I have just been wearing wide legged trousers a lot this summer.

Dontcallmescarface · 08/09/2023 14:57

I'm late fifties and never stopped wearing them.

meanderingbrook · 08/09/2023 14:58

Tbh I have all the styles and I like them. I just don't like chucking perfect good clothes that I like!

I only doubted when I read posts on here!🧐

I think sometimes people on here will declare something as out or old fashioned when they don’t particularly like a style themselves and are trying to influence others.

They really have been out for a few years. Nothing to do with whether anyone likes them or not. Around me, the only people I see wearing skinnies are (i'm going to get slaughtered) chavvy types and the sort of mum who wears Boden.

NearlyMonday · 08/09/2023 15:30

@ohboohoo I wear Boden ...... does this make me a bad person?!

My SD wears them. She's young, looks like a model and has a professional job.

@ohboohoo ooh, tell me more!!! Who decides? Is it some sort of 'Fashion Magisterium'? ....are 'chavvy types' the arch enemies?

Which am I?🧐

..probably neither. Not always good at stealth fitting in mode...

@PaulaZackMayo oh, like your SD I'm a absolutely gorgeous specimen too!😉 Well, I am for 'my type' at least..

Nope. It says nothing about how nice or awful you are. But it does suggest a certain disinterest in what is new and current in fashion and style. But that's ok. Not everyone has to give a fig about trends.

Who decides what? What's in fashion? Have you seriously got to adulthood not understanding what fashion and trends are? No one needs to follow fashion but lots of people love fashion. We have all seen those people who are stuck in their heyday and wear the hair, makeup and clothing trends that were big when they felt their best. They no doubt are convinced that massive sprayed hair, whatever makeup trend they are still rocking and whatever dated clothes they love are classic and never out of fashion. But we can all see how out of step they are with current trends. Is that bad? No!! People can do whatever they want.

meanderingbrook · 08/09/2023 15:43

@ohboohoo

"But it does suggest a certain disinterest in what is new and current in fashion and style. But that's ok. Not everyone has to give a fig about trends."

I beg to disagree! I will pick 'trend' pieces up from almost any shop or second hand. An eye for the styles and what suits you is all that is needed. I started this thread because it really made me laugh after all the rule based nonsense that goes on here.

What I absolutely love is the street watching YouTube channels from across the world. Where you can see fabulously dressed people of all ages and backgrounds. 🙂
