WWW's six week 10 year younger bootcamp, WEEK TWO, MARCH 2008, all welcome

WideWebWitch · 02/03/2008 19:22

Welcome to week 2 of the second WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2008. Hello everyone.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's winter
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Oh hurrah, week one again, can start properly, but will have to be tomorrow, as have a bottle of wine in the fridge and some Waitrose crispy duck pancakes and apricot tart to make up for horrible Mothers Day!

Hope everyone has good weeks, and that people with work problems (www, marina) have good weeks at work! to everyone!

tortoiseSHELL · 02/03/2008 19:29

Ok, completely misread the title, feel very stupid, but HURRAH, WEEK TWO AGAIN....

WideWebWitch · 02/03/2008 19:29

OP posts:
unknownrebelbang · 02/03/2008 19:58

It might be better to draw a veil over the weekend, lol...

Croissants AND pain au chocolat for breakfast in bed, along with Schloer Bucks Fizz.

Thick crusty bread and pate/cheese etc for lunch.

Wine and Cake at a friend's for her 40th birthday

Fishfingers for tea (well it is Mothering Sunday, and it's wot I fancied!) followed my lemon torte and some real bucks fizz. DH would have cooked something decent for tea, but he's got manflu dontya know?

Currently stuffing a box of quality street, and I've had no exercise or any fruit today.

Managed to sneak an hour in the pub with two friends last night whilst the lads were at the After Show Party. Brightened our day, hehe, and have spent the afternoon watching the Show DVD. It's something I guess only a mother could love, lol.

Always a difficult day today, but received some nice flowers plus a made flower from DS3 (DS2 dropped his in the mud on Friday afternoon which upset me disproportionately). Also received a few daffs in church, which always cheer me.

marina · 02/03/2008 21:12

Hello all
Saw your posts in passing yesterday www and meant to reply. Only an incredibly strong and capable person could sustain the kind of routine you are in currently, and while that's what you are , you know your pals were worried about the toll it would take on your wellbeing. So onward and upward with job-seeking for a less grisly journey and lots of love XXX
Walking not good this weekend, plenty of water, have really almost cut snacking out of my life (handful of pistachios with a solitary beer last night), creams all in order, happiness variable due to colossal PMS, work improving in that we hit bottom and are now on the upward curve, hopefully
Dd was utterly adorable as a Siamese child in a scene from the King and I at her ballet show today, but the rehearsal and then the show drove a coach and horses through our precious family downtime at the weekend, alas
Good to see you posting again torty! Was beastly Mother's Day work related...
We got church flowers too rebel, and we had three tiny babies there for everyone to coo at. I find accidental damage to children's artwork really upsetting too
Good week everyone! Now work is slightly less horrific me and my Omron will be pounding the streets again

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 02/03/2008 21:28

Sunscreen - yes!
Booze - one large glass with dinner
Have run - yippee - out for an hour - didn't run all the way but did a fair bit.
Lots of water -yes
Body cream - yes
Use hand cream/foot cream - yes, well will do feet before bed.
Go to bed early - will do
Eat healthily - didn't do too badly
Be happy - am trying to think positive.

Have a good week everyone.

tortoiseSHELL · 02/03/2008 21:57

marina - not totally - I will email you the debacle that happened there - is actually quite amusing, and saved dh from a day of frustrated anger.....

tortoiseSHELL · 02/03/2008 21:59

Oh and I agree with marina about your schedule www - 4 hours commuting is bound to take a toll on you - is there any possibility of something nearer? (I know you're probably looking as we speak). I hated commuting just up the M5, which was only an hour each way, but was bad enough day in day out. I think the repetitiveness is the worst thing tbh. Hope something comes up soon! x

arfishy · 02/03/2008 23:53

Hello all [waves] Bama found me loitering on the Oz roll-call thread and shamed me into coming back. How is everybody? Still the commute from hell WWW? That's got to be draining the very lifeblood out of you.

Have we had any births yet? And Happy Mothers Day to all. Any other news?

Alas I can no longer train with Evil Victoria (TM) as DD has started school and I can't fit in with the session times due to school runs.

It's the time of year again when I am about to book my flights to the UK and must lose the 'nobody can see me' weight in order to jemmy myself back into my UK clothes.

So in a panic this week I am juicing. I am hoping this will give a kick-start and wean me off the wine, carbs and junk and start to restore my inner glow. In return for a week of purgatory I have booked myself in for some extreme body treatments tomorrow, including the 1,200 calorie per hour body wrap and cellulite/arse busting endermologie with the delicious Scott (a huge improvement on Evil Victoria (TM)).

bamamama · 03/03/2008 03:25

yeah my first bit of MN influence!

Hope you all had a lovely Mothers Day.

WWW - Whilst you look for a new job is there any way you can improve the horror that is your commute? [clutching at straws emotion]?

Marina- glad that work is on the up, have you opened your DVD yet

T/shell, nice to hear from you again!

Saggar, well done on your run.

Ureb, just why are men incapable when they have a cold??

Arfishy - Delicious Scott sounds far more condusive to exercise than Evil Victoria. How long are you back in the UK for? Will you be going to Marks and Spencers straight from the airport?

Well I'm bootcamping with a vengence now. All the cake I ate with MIL has settled out nicely and I've put on a few more pounds than I'd like.

Today I've been for a bike ride and will be going out for a walk later. Yesterday managed 27,000 steps but had heaps of wine on Saturday so they cancelled themselves out.

Hope you all have a good start to the week.

Gymtastic, batters Is this local or near work out of interest, well done XXX
It's my objective to get to this stage in the Autumn.
TS, thanks for the mail, it boosted my happiness quotient too
Arfishy, good to see you back and thanks for inviting Delicious Scott along too
Might manage a bit of square-bashing for the first time in a while today, happiness still a bit uppy-downy, as dd would say (she has also taken to telling us to "bubble off" if we are not up to scratch )
Well done on the run saggars

ChutneyMary · 03/03/2008 12:39

Hello everyone

Sorry to go AWOL at the end of last week. Had hormonal chaos caused by first period in nearly 2 years and didn't feel up to posting though I did keep bootcamping . Am working at home today and something which was causing me acres of stress turned out to be much easier than anticipated so feel very virtuous.

WWW, I commuted 4 hours a day from Oxf to London on the coach when I was 23 and it nearly finished me off when I had youth and vigour on my side. The fact that you turn up at all is great. Marina, so glad things are a bit better for you workwise. Hope things continue on an even keel for you.

Unknown, sorry yesterday was difficult. There are so many days which are challenging as well as birthdays etc. Your intake looks very modest anyway. Tshell, sorry your day wasn't great either - hope you feel better today.

Batters - am impressed on the gym membership and power plates are supposed to be FAB. Is it round here or in town?

Bama, 27000 is fabulous! I did 23000 on Sat and was impressed by that but you beat me fair and square. Am so glad MIL gone and you have your life back again.

Had a boozy Fri night, a high activity Sat (to walk off booze) and a lovely day yest making cakes andplaying with the girls. Beautiful card from DD1 which looks almost like a Klimt print (if you squint a bit!). So high on happiness and looking forward to another week. More later. Off to do some more work - am sitting in bed with the radio on and it's great

LoveAndSqualor · 03/03/2008 13:05

Morning all

Sounds like good mother's days were had by all (though unknownrebel, sorry to hear it was tough for you - I hope the fishfingers and DVD helped). Despite not technically yet being a mother, I managed to spend yesterday disporting myself in a most mothers'-day-esque fashion - ie eating non-stop and lying around. We had two friends and their two children (three years and six months) over for brunch and the handing-over of bags of baby-gear, so the day began with sausages, bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes, toast, eggs, juice, coffee ... then a short walk to the park and a stagger back home (my ligaments appear to have given up, now they know they don't have to go back into the office), a nap on the sofa, and then tea plus hot cross buns, malt loaf and choco leibnitz biscuits (several) with two other friends. Managed a surprisingly healthy spinach and chickpea gratin thing for dinner, but excelled myself by demolishing a bar of green and black's before bed. Plus various bowls of cereal throughout the day. Felt like a beached whale by the time I got to bed.

Today, enjoyed getting up slowly, having breakfast (muesli and yoghurt) with DP and popping out to buy the paper before tidying the kitchen, eating a couple of last slices of malt loaf and an apple and coming online to do a final final piece of work (for some supplement or other, one-off payment, couldn't say no!). Nearly finished, phew. Planning on lunch followed by a swim this afternoon, and then have a friend popping round after work. Verdict on maternity leave so far: not bad!

Batters, v exciting re the gym. Bama, 27000 steps?! I am in awe. And www, hope today's commute has been ok ...

Prufrock · 03/03/2008 14:04

I need a burkha to hide my end of week sins. I've also realised that my husband can actually lie to me - I craved chocolate on saturday night so asked if he's possibly ignored my exortations to not buy me anything and he said he had, but would see if he could get a galaxy or something when he got the papers on Sunday. Then Sunday morning I was brought breakfast, coffee, 4 wonderful cards (2 from school, 2 done with dh) 2 bags from space NK (relaxing candle and bath oil) and a box of Charbonnel & Walker champagne truffles, and a box of Cappucino truffles. I was spoilt. Then we went horse racing, which ds pronounced was "the most exciting thing I've done in the world" and we let them each have a bet (bad mummy) and dd won! Only £1.70, but she was very pleased.

I am already admitting that I will not be being good this week - out Thursday, Friday and Saturday but wll try to be OK the rest of the week to mitigate the disaster.

Prufrock · 03/03/2008 14:09

www - the commute is hell, and you are amazing to have managed it this long. Would it be feasable to stay over just one night a week, and work very late, and start very early the next am, and use the hours to leave early the rest of the week? You could promise to be contactable on the train in case anything urgent came up?

Batters - well done. Try to time you visits to co-incide with something you want to watch on TV, it makes the time go far more quickly. And make sure you avail yourself of all the classes you can fit in - they're usually free and a great way to keep motivated - it's far easier to exercise for an hour if someone is telling you what to do all the time than if you are alone with only yourslef to make you carry on running.

WideWebWitch · 03/03/2008 20:05

Unknwn, that sounds like a LOVELY day, esp the hour in the pub, those sneaked times are so delicious aren't they? I wanted fishfingers tonight but Tesco had run out and didn't deliver them during the last online shop so we're having pizza instead

Marina, thank you my love x to you too. I'm glad work is on the up and ikwym about downtime and resenting any disturbance to it but ah at your dd, that sounds sweet and v lovely. Well done on lack of snacks

Saggars, well done on the run! And on thinking positive.

ARFY, where tfkingf have you been woman? Welcome back! Juicing? You are hardcore, we are impressed. Tell us more aobut delicious Scott!

Bama, I do have to improve the horror, am talking to boss tomorrow and will almost certainly blurt out "this is killing me, I have to leave if you don't give me xyz" She is lovely, I need to tell her how hard it is I think and tell her what I want to stay. 27,000 steps? Are you SURE? That's loads! Well done.

ha ha batters, just got to your post and see you are also asking about Delicious Scott, we are a load of lechy old women on this thread aren't we? OMG at the gym, well done, I am scared of gyms, do tell us what it's like won't you? Once yu start going I mean, I know you've told us what it's like! Thank you too x

ChutneyMary, blimey, 2 years? How come? (don't answer if you don't want to) thank you for your kind words too and yes, I do feel too old for this kind of commute tbh. Your picture sounds lovely, in fact, all these homemade mothers day cards sound gorgeous. I had one too, with handprints, aren't they fab? One day we'll all turn around and they'll be grown up...

L&S, cor at that breakfast, sounds lovely! I'm glad your mat leave has started well!

Prufrock, that sounds like a lovely day too, horse racing hey? Ah at most exciting thing in the world, bless. Here's yer Bhurka love

Pru, yes, I think I can ask for that. And yes, everytime I've stayed with ex dh in London (well, when I've made it in, ahem) it's made me realise how HELLISH it is the rest of the time. So when I stop it makes me go omg how have I been doing it? Which is why last week was v v v tough after half term.

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 03/03/2008 20:09

Not great bootcamp wise

2 toast, butter, Marmite
banana
apple
Cranks houmous sandwich and salad, 400 cal iirc
then hungry at 3pm so tuna and coriander sandwich, 300 cal
packet mini cheddars, oops 150 cal
and about to have pizza

left work at 4pm in order to make it to parents evening for 6.30, rubbish innit? and that also made me realise it is madness. So will speak to boss tomorrow. But ds is doing fine, so said slightly swoony teacher (he is about 20, I must behave!) so that's good.

And lovely early night with dh last night and will go to bed earlyish tonight too
no booze
and in fact, just realised it was a fairly moderate weekend too
water ok today
forgot sunscreen
but feeling happy

OP posts:
Lulumama · 03/03/2008 20:26

drinking more water, eaten good meals, less booze, no excercise though , got nice body moisturiser for mothers day so have started doing that.... going to bed too late though

purple sprouting broccoli half price in lidl today so bought loads!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 03/03/2008 20:40

Hello everyone. Welcome back arfishy.
batters - can't wait to hear about the gym and all those fascinating machines!
saggars - of an hours run
L&S - glad you're enjoying mat leave. I don't get any!
Some very impressive steps on this thread. I have done less than 7000 today which is utterly crap.

Missed breakfast and instead had crab & salad sandwich at 10am , made chicken & sweetcorn soup for lunch, chocolate cookie, plum, lasagne, salad & treacle pudding with cream for dinner. Lots of water and not much coffee. Have not had a single raw carrot all day!

Face & hand cream good. Feet bad. Awful nights sleep, DH snoring on his back in the middle of the bed and dog letting off terrible noxious farts so I decamped to another room which was bloody freezing. At least the gas tank is full up now so it's lovely central heating again.

unknownrebelbang · 03/03/2008 21:10

Hello everyone.

TS, hope things improve, and Marina glad things have improved for you. DD's performance sounds wonderful.

www, the commute is hellish, I really don't know how you do it, so I hope you can sort something out with your manager.

Hello Arfishy - Scott is a definite improvement on Victoria, lol. When are you coming to the UK?

Bama, 27000? wow!

The daffodil sounds lovely Batters, and well done on joining the gym, I'm very impressed!

Chutneymary - it's the quantity that was the problem, lol.

Your days sounds lovely L&S.

Enjoy your week without bootcamping prufrock.

It was a lovely day overall www, and yes the sneaked time in the pub was great. A spontaneous moment - chalk it up!

Glad to hear you've got heating again Duchess.

unknownrebelbang · 03/03/2008 21:12

Enjoy the gym Batters.

bamamama · 04/03/2008 04:05

Hello all. Feel the need to justify/explain my steppage... We don't have a car while we're here so I just walk everywhere! On Sunday it happened to be an hours walk with dh and ds to drop off a bike then lunch then an hours walk back by which time ds was asleep so we had a detour up to the botanical gardens and a walk round there. Then coffee and cake, then home. I then decided that I wanted to have some time to myself so went for a brisk walk with ipod round the lake. Total = 27,000.

Mind you, I've been to my exercise class today - half hour walk there and back and running round for an hour and I've barely chalked up 9,000 so there you go.

Right, back later. I've nearly finished my essay and I have to go and decide it's all nonsense and probably need to start again.
