WWW's six week 10 year younger bootcamp, WEEK TWO, MARCH 2008, all welcome

WideWebWitch · 02/03/2008 19:22

Welcome to week 2 of the second WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2008. Hello everyone.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's winter
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

L&S - here you go - not worth losing sleep over, it's the name of an old occupation in the Potteries (from whence I'm born and bred). Apparently there's a Tweenies song about it

I must get a new pedometer for days like today when I've done no 'official' exercise. It'll either make me or make me . Apart from the exercise (again) it's all ticks for me.

Sorry about the sciatica Norks. Tis grim.

WideWebWitch · 05/03/2008 20:41

unknown, wow that your boy can cook, v impressive. hope you got your newsletter done, even 20 mins on exercise bike impresses me, frankly

Batters, hope dd sleeps better tonight, gosh, really re 15 minute walk? Honestly, children these days, mutter mutter. 14000 is good, as usual for you

L&S, yes, you must make the most of being on leave with no baby yet and def loll around a lot. and agree about practice not getting dressed! Did you have a massage? Not long to go now...

bouncingblueberries, of course you can join, welcome!

feetheart, glad your ds is better, how nice that he is lovely company again and ate the lasagne. do you feel silly doing the hula hoop or is it quite fun?

DofN, that's some fruit and choc war! I read through it going oh yes oh no oh yes oh no

Chutneymary, hope you had a lovely evening. Did you stick at moderate or did you gt shitfaced? Do tell!

Saggars, I didn't know about your name either!

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 05/03/2008 20:44

Hmm

2 pieces toast, Marmite
egg sandwich, 350 cal
hummus sandwich, 300 cal
apple
banana
and then found a packet of M&S choc eggs in my bag and idly ate them only to read the label and see that 100g = 500 cal and I'd eaten all but 2 of a 104g packet

oh well
came home nad had cottage pie and peas and v small glass of white wine
going to bed shortly

have had good day and proposal is in with a request to start sooner, asap so we'll see. I've proposed 4 x 9.30am starts AND 4.30 finishes, plus one long day at home, plus 5 hrs a week working on train. We'll see.

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 05/03/2008 20:44

OP posts:
marina · 05/03/2008 20:46

Evening all, have monster flu bug so am sitting here sweating without even doing any exercise
Came on last night. One moment I was fine, the next, NOT.
Will post again when not half-dead. Looks like many people have had productive and enjoyable days

bamamama · 05/03/2008 22:27

Hi all, Marina - sorry you're feeling crap. Wrap up warm and get better soon.

ok, well although I doubt anyone will believe me yesterday I managed 27,380 steps - that's well over 3 hours of walking. Today I'm going for a big bike ride and then will test the moron. Can't remember what my stride is but I'm 5'9 so will be more than 50cm!

Had our traditional Wednesday bottle of wine but apart from that have been bootcamping admirably. No sign of the weight I want to lose shifting though. Ah well.

Will report back later when I've done more than dance round the kitchen to dodgy Aussie rock music because it was making ds laugh.

unknownrebelbang · 05/03/2008 22:53

Wow, Saggars is that true? Tweenies has a song about you? rofl! That's made my day!

Sympathy though over DH changing his holiday. DH was asked to work an extra shift the other week, so rang me to discuss....as I put the phone down I muttered the word divorce...(and then plans went awry anyway, lol). I've also caused a bit of grief before now though with covering shifts, needs must and all that, but felt really guilty when I did it on a colleague yesterday. He obliged, thankfully, not sure how thrilled his wife (another colleague) was.

I'm also chuckling to myself about the discussion about length of stride. Must measure mine one day. Plus the discussion of wine in a sports bottle, and what it equals, another thing to try one of these days...

Welcome bbb.

Well done on the weightloss Marina. Sorry you're unwell.

White body stocking arfy? sounds delightful!

Well done mini-Batters. I like neglect laidback parenting (most of the time). Hope she sleeps better tonight.

Cute feetheart, smiley mummy. Glad DS is better. My mam was fab with the hoop, whereas me....

Hope the meeting was short Norks, and that the sciatica is being kept at bay.

Glad your event went well moonshine.

Sounds promising www. Fingers cross that you get a positive outcome.

Lol, L&S I am a pale midlander, and don't do heat. Trust the visit to the dentist wasn't too traumatic?

We have two cars (for one bizarre period last year there were four cars on the drive!) and we struggle to walk much, although I am making a concerted effort to improve. Need to plan a bit, but with DH's shifts and all the boys' commitments blah blah blah. Our walk home from school is two miles - all downhill and quite pleasant, except I'm usually rushing home from work (and therefore in the car).

Newsletter just needs a few amendments, just got to find a notepad now to find some notes of a meeting from 12 months ago, rofl.

Hope you've enjoyed your evening Chutney.

DS can also make home-made pizza (from scratch) amongst other things, and is very independent. Now, if only he wasn't so faddy with what he actually eats...(have to send a note when he's on scoutcamp, because he often won't eat what's cooked and he won't open his blardy mouth to ask for some bread or something!

unknownrebelbang · 05/03/2008 22:56

Have made a good start today:

Just dashing through on way to ante-natal appt, but must say two things ...

  1. saggar, the reason behind your name is better than I could ever have dreamed - thank you!!

  2. I bought two feeding bras yesterday. Went to the shop, tried one on, the nice woman explained that my rib-cage would shrink a bit and my breasts would grow a bit, and it would fit perfectly after the birth. Jolly good, I thought: have left glamour at the door, but I am very, very comfortable. "And what size is it?" I remembered to ask as I was paying (bear in mind that I was somewhere between a B and C cup pre-pg and am a D now). "34F, dear," she replied. I was literally speechless: couldn't even thank her. F??? Thunk.

Will update more thoroughly later! Have good mornings (chilly, gray and yuck here).

ChutneyMary · 06/03/2008 09:47

Batters, that man sounds delicious. Was it HH or TH station? >

L&S, you will appreciate the comfort once the baby is here. My bras look as though they need underground cables to wrest my bosom into position. Daren't hang them outside lest the neighbours think my granny has come to stay. You will get plenty use out of them though so they are a good investment.

Welcome BBB, good to have you on board.

Good evening yest. Half bottle of wine plus extra glass so escaped quite lightly. Have walked the DDs to nursery with DD1 protesting " but we've been twice this week mummy, so we don't need to go again" and now am sitting in bed with my books trying to work out how to teach my Monday session. This working lark is hard going at the moment, but only 4 more weeks of hell then it eases again.

Hope all are well - nearly weekend girls, hang on in there

Back later.

winnie · 06/03/2008 13:37

hi everyone

Despite my absence here online I am finally getting back into my stride bootcampwise. Am walking daily and clearing 10,000 steps again (27,000 is very impressive). Am eating healthily (Lots of fruit & veg) and I appear to have given up alcohol without intending too (It won't last).

Marina, sorry you are feeling awful. Hope you are better soon.

L&S enjoy your maternity leave.

-Sunscreen yes

  • No booze!
  • lots of walking
  • Lots of water/mint tea
  • Apply body cream as often as possible, yes
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, yes
  • Go to bed early, yes
  • Eat healthily - yes
  • Be happy, yes.
feetheart · 06/03/2008 14:36

bama - sorry if I cast any doubt on your step count, I was just SO impressed at the total. I'm even more impressed if you are a similar height to me
I clock up many of my steps dancing around the kitchen to amuse/annoy small children, wonder if it could become a new 'rule'.

L&S - LOL at reaction to 'F'. Those bras will become your best friend, definitely a good investment though by the end of it all they will be sad, grey shadows of their former selves. I had a ritual binning of mine after 14 mths bfing and went and spent a justifiable fortune in La Senza.

batters - at beautiful man

WWW - don't feel that silly doing hula hoop, I've done some much sillier things in public in my time!

feetheart · 06/03/2008 14:43

Hello Winnie, nice to see you.

  • Sunscreen - yes
  • Booze/chocolate (my downfall is pigging out on all things sweet) - rest of Easter Egg hunt choccies (about 5 little ones) plus last 4 Hotel Chocolat Mother's Day ones - very yummy but gone now
  • Walking - just over 8,000 including 5 mins with hula hoop
  • Water - not brilliant
  • Body cream - yes
  • Hand cream/foot cream - yes
  • Go to bed early - just after 10.30pm
  • Eat healthily - reasonably
  • Be happy - yes, decided to go out with children and friends rather than see self-absorbed SiL, MUCH better plan
moonshine · 06/03/2008 16:57

Hello all. I'm still knackered from my all-nighter but am definitely going to the gym tomorrow morning as I am desperate to start getting fit.

Batters - I find myself often leching after handsome men these days - am in danger of turning into a dirty old woman. But it is lovely when you see someone so lovely, sigh.

WWW - hope your proposals are met - they must realise that they are in dange rof losing you otherwise.

Welcome back to Winnie - I gave up alcohol for 9 weeks but got back into drinking very very easily - I just cannot give up the odd tipple.

L&S - sympathies at the 'F' cups. I hated mine when they were an E cup and just cannot understand why people want to go under the knife for huge norks, although admitedly I would happily have them lifted if I was a) not such a wuse and b)rich.

Food-wise I am concentrating on maintaining atm. Need to lose about half a stone to get to a healthy bmi and would love to lose just a little bit more on my wobbly tummy (thank God for spanx power panties!).

Still body brushing and moisturising but I'm not allowed to spend any more money on toiletries after my excesses this year. I've rediscovered the joy of Palmer's cocoa butter and they now do a firming one (which I am road-resting for the sake of other bootcampers).

Have a good evening all.

WideWebWitch · 06/03/2008 18:46

Oh no Marina, how are you today? I bet your immune system taken a stress related knocking, sympathy x

Bama, 27300is IMPRESSIVE, well done, wow. lol at dodgy rock and don't think about the weight, think about how good you feel

unkwm, iywym about findibng time to not use a car, not always easy and impressive ticks on your list, well done

That's a good first day bbb, well done. Bear in mind that if you haven't been doing lots of this you may feel rubbish for a bit before you feel better but then when you feel better it's usually much better for many of us

Batters, Bugger, missed Torchwood, hope dh recorded it...

spring is indeed here and lol and oo er at your sap rising re the young maaan! I think some men are to be admired, most definitely. I don't usually see dh in his work clothes (get home too late when he's changed) but I SWOONED on Monday when I came back early and he was in Paul Smith suit and tie and was all tall and smart and manly and then we had to go to parents evening and really I wanted to just go STRAIGHT out to dinner and chat and drink wine and then come home to bed and a lie in the next day. Reality was parents evenign followed by putting children to bed followed by quick supper followed by my collapsing with tiredness at 9.30. Oh well!

L&S, ha ha ha at F cup!

Chutney, amused at vision of you hanging around stations looking for divine looking men, glad you had a good evening

Winnie, welcome back and well done on walking and lack of booze, marvellous!

Feetheart, children much better idea than SIL, glad you had a nice time and well done.

Moonshine, wow, 9 weeks is impressive. I don't think I've done longer than a month (other than pregnancy when I've just had the odd glass, but dd is 4 now so it was a long time ago!) I have v wobbly tummmy, live in fear of being asked if I want a seat on the tube due to looking up duff.

WideWebWitch · 06/03/2008 18:49

Hmm,

2 pieces toast, Marmite
smoked salmon sandwich, 350 cals
banana
packet crisps, 180 cal
icing off a cake
a mini Twix
and having M&S sea bass with rosemary plus veg plus chips (M&S ready ones) plus Chablis tonight
Intend to drink small amount
was asleep by 9.45 last night
will be by 10 tonight

Reasonably happy although knackered.

OP posts:
TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 06/03/2008 19:01

Get well soon marina, sounds vile (caused by overwork no doubt).
batters - have you been to the gym yet? What did they do to you?
L&S - snort at F-cup! I was a D pre-pregnancy so I hope I don't run out of alphabet...!

arf @ www's 'icing off a cake' - are you 3yo?! Have you finished the Jilly Cooper - she's my comfort read!

I'm into my last 10 weeks of pregnancy and apart from the sciatica, feeling pretty good. I'd like to be doing more exercise but I guess it'll have to wait. Another pitiful 6000 steps today.

I have eaten 2 x toasted hot cross buns, ham & coleslaw sandwich, raw carrots, apple, some brie & crackers and will shortly have a baked potato with something.

Liberal amounts of face, hand & body cream. I had a late night (1am) because of work problems but will have to do better tonight because I'm very tired. Happiness high because both DD1 and DS1 had such good reports at parents evening. [boastful emoticon]

WideWebWitch · 06/03/2008 19:06

lol dofN, I dn;t actually like choc cake but I do like choc icing so I did just eat the icing! I like chocolate but not chocolate flavoured things like cake.

OP posts:
unknownrebelbang · 06/03/2008 19:07

Icing's the best part, surely?

unknownrebelbang · 06/03/2008 19:54
  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze
  • Walking. I made an effort today, and walked home from school twice - about four miles. Am blardy knackered now lol.
  • Lots of water/weak tea.
  • Apply body cream as often as possible, lax
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, yes
  • Go to bed early, stupid o'clock again.
  • Eat healthily - yes, good day today.
  • Be happy. Yes, but tired (self-inflicted - two vv late nights).

DS2 + DS3 looked fab as Thing One and Thing Two for WBD. Now just get rid of the blue hair....

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 06/03/2008 20:09

F&S - at the F cup - even breastfeeding I barely filled a C!

Batters - at the lovely man.

bbb - you sound like you've made a good start.

AArgh! I've put on 2 pounds. I need help - my perimenopausal state is increasing my waistline and apparently I need to eat 200 calories less a day to not gain weight, never mind lose it. And I am the original Carb Monster so I need snacks and breakfasts with less carbs. Any ideas?

I've run today though (just 30 minutes but it was uphill) and I'm drinking a pint of water as we speak. Have done all the lotions and potions too. I also realised today that I haven't had a cup of coffe since Sunday so that's a bonus.

Bed early as dh is on nights so I get lots of room and no snoring.

yoyo · 06/03/2008 22:18

So tired at the moment as have had unavoidable late nights. Will be another tonight but am looking forward to zonking out early tomorrow.

Despite moisturising religiously my face and hands are rather parched. Skin is very sensitive so can only use muslin cloth and not exfoliator on face but it is having no effect. Looks flaky and yuk. Top tips anyone?

Food has been rather mixed with a few mini eggs and some cake together with haelthy fare. A fair amount of water over the course of the day but am obviously dehydrated so need more.

No alcohol yet but may have a glass of wine when DH gets in.

Less walking than usual.

Not a good day really but tomorrow will be better.

Feetheart - I wear glasses too and am very short-sighted so make-up is even trickier to apply. Am going to book her soon.

Marina - hope you are feeling better soon.

WWW - good news re:proposal. How do you have the energy to even consider early nights with Paul Smith attired husband?

Batters - how long were you looking at the beautiful man?! He does sound rather splendid and just the eyeful one needs to make the day brighter.

marina · 07/03/2008 09:35

Hello all, am off to drs in a moment, think it is tonsillitis, ugh. Have been so ill (for me, I appreciate a couple of days in bed with a roaring temp is amateur stuff compared to what others have to endure).
Just poking nose in to say hi and you're all doing ver', ver' well.
LOL at the lovely man batters, get yourself some bromide (or a bout of tonsillitis, Johnny Depp could be capering about starkers on the end of the bed right now and I would tell him to sling his hook) and fab news on the revised timetable www.
Yoyo, are you using Eve Lom? I have sensitive skin and it does work well for me. It's not a strong exfoliator at all IME.
