WWW's six week 10 year younger bootcamp, WEEK TWO, MARCH 2008, all welcome

Welcome to week 2 of the second WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2008. Hello everyone.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's winter
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

marina, hope you're feeling better soon. I did lol at Johnny Depp (we are in a PotC obssession here and ds1 said to me in all seriousness the other day that 'every night Johnny Depp comes to me in my dreams' - I thought you and many millions of women!). We were doing a Pirates jigsaw with him last night - it is a 300 piece one so he needed help with it and it made a very pleasant change to be building up a picture of JD and Orlando Bloom instead of Bob the Builder....

Hope everyone has had a good week!

yoyo · 07/03/2008 17:08

Batters - glad you enjoyed the gym and that you feel you will be returning for more. Congratulations on losing 6 stones - that is absolutely amazing. Will see if I can get a sample of the Dermalogica stuff as I am fed up of buying things that I then find I can't use.

Marina - what did the Doc say? Antibiotics? Am using all the Dr Weil stuff from Origins so will get through that before trying anything expensive. Usually have oily skin so not sure why it is so prune-like at the moment.

Am having a good day so far.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 07/03/2008 20:33

yoyo - I know nothing of sensitive skin so can only suggest drinking more and more water to help yours from the inside-out. Hope you get an early night, I've been up late most of the week too (and it looks like it)!

arf @ marina & t'shells Depp stories. Hope you have a good rest over the weekend and feel better soon M.

ureb - how goes the blue hair?

saggars - well done on the run. More of that and you won't have to worry about carbs... (that's what I tell myself anyway).

batters - I am very impressed. The gym actually sounds quite nice (I hate gyms). I'm not even making low-moderate at the moment!

Another measly 6000 steps for me today but I have been swimming - about 15 lengths of slow breaststroke. Feel great in the pool but sciatica crap as soon as I get out. DD2 had a lovely time and is learning to jump in.

Have eaten croissant, orange, apple juice & iron, ham & salad & crackers, raw carrots, apple and due to 1.5hr long phone call at dinnertime was forced to cook burger, chips & beans one-handed whilst cheering up soon-to-be-divorced friend who's rather challenging DSs are surpassing themselves. Poor old stick.

This evening will consist of champagne truffles and a soak in the bath and hopefully an early night.

Happy Friday.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 07/03/2008 20:35

who's? tch! I meant whose.

unknownrebelbang · 07/03/2008 22:16

saggers. Most of DH's nightshifts now mean he comes in sometime between 3-5 am unless he's really unlucky...but guess who gets disturbed...

Never been much bigger than a C cup myself, even when bf (though I'm very broad, so still a reasonable size, lol).

www, you always make DH sound fab.

Aw Marina, sorry you're so unwell.

Well done Batters! First step is so daunting isn't it? My activity rate is shockingly low (apart from the odd burst, but even then it's still not much).

Champagne truffles and a soak sounds lovely duchess.

The blue hair has gorn, apart from one teeny patch around their crowns. (They washed their own hair, and I only noticed DS2's as we walked home from school tonight, slack mummy, hehe).

unknownrebelbang · 07/03/2008 22:25
  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze
  • 20 mins ex bike, plus two mile hike home from school.
  • Lots of water/weak tea.
  • Apply body cream as often as possible, lax
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, yes
  • Go to bed at 8pm, asleep by 9.30ish.
  • Eat healthily - chippy and magnum for late tea tonight
  • Be happy. Hmm. Bit of a crap day really. Started with DS1 missing his school bus and DH having to take him when we were due at DS2's IEP meeting which concentrated on his forthcoming SATs. Crud day at work (nothing specific tbh) and having words with DH.

Thank fk for my email buddy.

Still, tis Friday, DS1+2 are on scoutcamp, DS3's got a cub activity day tomorrow, and a karate competition on Sunday, so got a few hours with DH tomorrow, and a morning to myself on Sunday (although I do have work to do).

Have a great weekend everyone.

moonshine · 08/03/2008 09:28

Good morning - are you all up exercising madly or increasing your happiness quotient ? I am doing neither as dh has gone off on a day's jaunt and I have fractious kids to deal with.

Batters - well done on the gym, it sounds lovely (and I want to weigh myself on those scales too!). I went myself for the first time this year yesterday and am decidedly stiff this morning but I rather like the feeling as it means I achieved something (even if it wasn't only a sprained muscle!). Still can't get over your fantastic weight-loss - tremendous.

WWW - your description of you dh in his suit was so lovely and made me feel very jealous, sigh...

Duchess - champagne truffles, a soak and a bath sounded lovely. Should have done that myself instead of drinking the best part of a bottle of wine (yes it really has been that easy to get back into drinking).

Marina - poor you. I'm of the generation that had their tonsils whipped out at the earliest opportunity.

I am now going to attempt not to have a carbfest brekfast but will have a soft-boiled egg and a slice of rye bread for my 'soldiers'.

Have a good weekend all.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 08/03/2008 10:28

Marina - thanks for the website. Will browse later.

Well done on the gym batters. I've ordered Davina's DVD for the days when I can't get out. It'll probably still be in the packaging this time next year lol!

Am at the champagne truffles Norks.

rebel - I'd hate that, cold dh getting into my warm bed, Noooooo!

Did OK yesterday, drank plenty, walked (at dh's yomping pace) for 70 minutes, avoided bread all day, didn't do the body lotion but did do hands, face and feet.

Need to move off my butt now as I've been up for a couple of hours and done nothing.

Iota · 08/03/2008 10:34

I'm still plateauing and still slacking.

WE are slipping back to our old wine fuelled ways again.

I made a fab fish gratin last night (smoked haddock, spinach, mustard, lemon juice, parmesan, cayenne, nutmeg and a vat of cream.

Was very nice though.mmmmmm

Iota · 08/03/2008 10:35

recipe here in case you are tempted

ChutneyMary · 08/03/2008 12:07

Iota that sounds gorgeous! I am still WW os may not be able to indulge for a while.

Saggars - Davina is supposed to be brill. I think Marina may be able to tell you more !

Marina - sympathies for the tonsils. Can you gargle with something? I have had very bad tonsils and a quinsy (sp?) in my puff and find, if you can bear it, that eating a bit of bread or something soft is good to scrape the yuk off the back of the throat. It is completely vile though - get well soon. Here is something to make you feel better

Moonshine - hope you have a good day with the kids. I find Sat and Sun more difficult with mine than normal days as they expect DH to be around and can play up a little if he isn't.

Duch, you are still an inspriration doing any steps - hope you have a restful weekend.

Hello everyone else - am at work having taught the delights of probate and inheritance tax this morning. More of the same this afternoon. So far done 3800 steps but most of that was round a seminar room so not aerobic. I'll check in later.

Hope you are all ok and having a good day

WideWebWitch · 08/03/2008 12:25

Not much time but yesterday a DISASTER bootcamp wise

2 sausage and egg McMuffins in comfort eating haze
smoked salmon sandwich
packet crisps
Pizza Express American hot
caesar salad
bannffee pie iirc
vats and vats of wine
last 4 items shared with dodgy woman so very lovely evening

today so far
bacon roll
lie in
long bath, body lotion, Flexitol etc

Have come to conclusion tat I HAVE to leave the job and fk the money. I will just have to do something extremely creative to put food on the table etc, probably involving taking dd out of nusery (£700 a month saving), ds out of after school club (£150 a monh), losing the cleaner (£250 a month) etc etc. Maybe sell the car so we go down to 1, I dno't know yet but I intend to spend this weekend working out my exit strategy.
crying before work, as I did yesterday, is not good. It can't go on.

Happy weekend everyone. Will start a new thread tomorrow.

OP posts:
bossykate · 08/03/2008 18:52

www, that is great news re the job/exit strategy, brilliant

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 08/03/2008 19:14

www - sounds like a plan.
chutney - talking about tax on a Saturday sounds like last circle of hell to me! I think you definitely need a drink later!
iota - fish gratin sounds good.
saggars - thats a good walk.
moonshine - hope you enjoyed your breakfast and the DCs became less fractious.

Me. Just under 5000 steps today. I'm beginning to think my Moron is broken as I'd done 1000 steps whilst mucking out before breakfast and certainly haven't been sitting about for the rest of the day.

Have eaten orange juice, toasted homemade bread with marmite, lime juice & iron supplement, orange, bread & butter, ham & salad, raw carrots, plum, fish pie (Waitrose As Good As) and lemon meringue pie with cream. Lots of water and not much coffee.

It's been a busy, rushing about sort of day with swimming lessons, shopping, etc. I'd like a good rest tomorrow but we have a friends DDs 4th birthday party which is an hours drive away. [Fumpf]

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 09/03/2008 09:40

www - glad you have an escape plan

Bad bootcamp day yesterday - nuff said.

Have resolved to do better today. Just out for a run as it's a very lovely morning - the calm before the storm perhaps.

unknownrebelbang · 09/03/2008 09:51

I had a lovely day yesterday, but bootcamp was poor...

No breakfast
Chicken, brie and cranberry sandwiches
Soup
McCoys
The biggest rum ball cake.
Pizza for tea (DS1's choice)
A bag of fondant creams.
Dolly mixture Fudge (lovely.)

Having got rid taken DS3 to his activity, spent the morning in bed then we went for a run out. Great fun being married to a copper.... To the left...the farm where all that trouble was; to the right...that's the church where they dug up that woman's body .

Anyway, we spent a couple of hours wandering around Lichfield and had some lunch, called at Amerton Farm on thw way back for some goodies and spent the evening lazing with DS3.

My peace ends in about four hours when I have to collect DS1+2 from camp, and I have work to do this morning, whilst trying to fend off the bread pudding we also bought yesterday....

unknownrebelbang · 09/03/2008 09:53

Do hope you get something sorted www.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 09/03/2008 16:19

arf @ unknowns 'black museum-style' tour!
saggars - how was your run? It was sunny here this morning but we've just had thunder/lightening/heavy rain AND hail! Sunny again now but some very threatening looking grey clouds on horizon.

Not a good bootcamp day for me. We left for friends DDs birthday party at 10am as it's an hour away. Completely disorganised and no drinks or food for adults and we didn't get back until nearly 3pm, by which time DH & I were starving & dehydrated. I've since devoured peanut butter sandwich, 2 fig roll biscuits and 2 raw carrots, 1 coffee and 3 huge glasses of water. And I have an awful headache.

DS1, sensibly, has gone for a nap. DDs are playing scalectrix with DH. I'm supposed to be doing Ocado order and I still have stuff to get ready for school tomorrow but thought I'd drop in for a moan! Sob, sob, woe is me! And I haven't done any exercise.

marina · 09/03/2008 16:40

Hi all,

Not been eating much due to sore throat - good
Drinking plenty of water and dilute fruit juice - good
Hardly any exercise
But am feeling a fair bit better today, thanks for all good wishes
WWW, I wish you all the best with the exit strategy. I think from all you have endured recently this is where your magnficent energies are best directed tbh
PMSL at ureb's Midsomer run, sorry, your dh sounds just a teensy bit like my mother for a minute there . Hope work perks up a bit though
I've made that mistake before now Duchess, and come home from a long party trip frazzled and parched
Chutney and iota, thanks for those gorgeous recipe links! Not just the ideas but the prose was balm to the soul in that tale of delicious soup
Wishing everyone a good week ahead (esp. www and all new members )

Iota · 09/03/2008 17:18

sorry that the commuting is so wearing, WWW - I have always hated commuting (haven't done it since 1995)

Don't sell the car - you will need it when you get your new, more convenient job.

tortoiseSHELL · 09/03/2008 18:54

marina, hope you are feeling better soon - it is horrid having a sore throat isn't it. Www - that sounds a good plan! Hope you are able to improve your working life to where you want it to be.

Not had too bad a week - haven't eaten a huge amount because dh has been out most of the week, so haven't really cooked. Did buy a HUGE chocolate cake yesterday but had friends over, and only had 1 small slice .

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 09/03/2008 19:59

Better day today.

The run was OK Norks - weather changed as soon as we got back - but I'm not back to 'enjoying' it yet. We did 40 minutes and then I walked for 20 later to the shop and post box.

I've been good food-wise - dh cooked roast chicken for dinner and it was lovely Everything else is ticked and I'm off to bed after Lost.

You made me laugh rebel with your outing - dh does the same, rescued a dog from impaling there, fatal RTC there (just what you need driving down the A500) I used to love Amerton Farm when mine were little though.

Glad you're feeling a little better marina.

bamamama · 09/03/2008 21:00

Morning all. Marina, glad you're feeling a little better. WWW, fingers crossed that the exit plan it a success. Norks - glad to see you managed your carrots (they really have taken the place of 100g of granola)
Saggar, roast chicken sounds lovely, I can never be arsed to deal with a whole bird. Note to self - Must. Try. Harder! Ureb, do you ever wish you didn't know the grisly goings on of your neighbourhood? Batters - how's the gym going?

We had 3 young men round for dinner on saturday night (dh's students) and my goodness they could drink. They were all about 15 years younger and bereft of the draining element of having a toddler so they drank us under the table. I wussed out at midnight but poor dh was up 'til four and I suspect a 72 hour hangover is on the cards!

In the last 7 days I have done the following exercise - 59.93 miles of walking, two hour long bike rides plus two hour long exercise classes. Put on 3 pounds. Now I know it's probably muscle but I'd rather have lost 3 pounds really.

Hope you're all enjoying the tail end of your weekends.
