WWW's six week 10 year younger bootcamp, WEEK TWO, MARCH 2008, all welcome

Welcome to week 2 of the second WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2008. Hello everyone.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's winter
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Nothing major Norks - just too much to do, too little time and a lot less inclination - add in 3 stroppy, self centred teens and, well you get the picture. Things will be better tomorrow.

Davina was good and has helped to fend off the need for wine tonight.

unknownrebelbang · 13/03/2008 21:40
  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze
  • 20 mins ex bike.
  • Lots of water/weak tea.
  • Apply body cream as often as possible, lax
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, yes
  • Go to bed - midnightish last night.
  • Eat healthily - hmm...
  • Be happy. hmmm.

My boys have been a nightmarish tonight (and only one a teenager, gawd help me in four years time....)

One of his colleagues had a glass smashed in his face last night...seemingly just for being a copper having a drink in a pub . No words exchanged, no fight, just wham. I don't know the bloke but it's given me the creeps, tbh.

We've decided at work that we must all be fkd up in some way because of the jobs we do, so double whammy for us, and the boys with DH's job as well.

On the up, I've had an appraisal meeting with t'boss today, paper exercise really, (and not worth said paper usually, lol) but he's retiring this year, and he wants to put something in my appraisal about my need for flexbility v. the fact that I'm always reliable blah blah blah, as evidence for future managers to try to ensure that I keep that flexibility. Thought that was worth chalking up, tbh. Will see what he actually writes now....

AND I've got my holiday docs, and a fab new bag (ok, so it's got eurocamp embroidered on it, but it's not bad for free!)

morning all, don't know why I'm here really, I'm such a slacker.

I didn't go to the gym yesterday, I just couldn't be bothered. I went and had coffee with a friend instead.

LOL at parents re school trip, batters.

There is so much happening on this thread - roof blowing off, sickness, work problems (moonshine that sounds grim, Saggers is sagging - I mean mentally not physically). It is like a soap opera in here.

My own small contribution - ds2 was violently sick in the night, so I have the pleasure of his company today and a pile of sheets in the washing machine.

So today, I will probably be mainly mumsnetting.

oh and dh is away on a course with his usual brilliant timing

marina · 14/03/2008 09:30

Morning all, just polishing off a skinny latte and a panettino from Costa, for brekkie
am doing Ok on bootcamp, yay - walking more this week (still need to do more though) means the weight's drifting gently away again, have lost nearly six kilos since doing this properly.
YY to water, cream, happiness, although work is still a weird parallel universe place. All seems normal again but me and my team know what lies beneath - more icebergs. Moonshine, you have my utter sympathy. I lost my excellent appreciative boss in less than pleasant circs last year and I felt terrifyingly exposed suddenly, for similar reasons. New boss is a very different kettle of fish unfortunately. It's like sidling through a minefield - carrying a pack of sweet, loyal but high-maintenance wibblers on my back for good measure
So I am well placed to empathise right now. That goes for all workplace-stressed bootcampers
Saggars, how are you feeling today?
And we all have to make www laugh and be merry, and get her fabulous groove back
Chutney, when will your roof be fixed and hope your dcs and bama's ds feel better soon
Batters, I have a Bad Rep as the parent who asks pointedly about whether short-hop coach trips are really necessary when we are in a suburb with excellent local and central transport links . I hear questions like those a lot of the time but they still make me LOL
Prufrock, I think a lot of us on here are Generation WTF in terms of chronology and we don't get extreme Y stuff in my line of work, so thanks for that salutary reminder of what annoying little tossers they can be [disclaimer - only you can describe your bro specifically as a tosser]
I see your annoying SIL feetheart and raise you mine, a Bridezilla Deluxe
Happy Friday one and all and come in, L&S, Iota, winnie, yoyo and...where has BouncingBlueberries got to? I know bundy is still below par.

marina · 14/03/2008 09:30

Oh there you are iota

Iota · 14/03/2008 09:39

hello marina - I haven't had my breakfast yet, just a coffee, but there is a hot cross bun in the kitchen looking for a good home - it will have to be toasted though, and spread with lashings of butter.

marina · 14/03/2008 09:46

Sounds quite the thing after a traumatic night iota

Iota · 14/03/2008 09:48

OK you have convinced me Marina. Now it will be your fault if I put weight on this week

marina · 14/03/2008 09:51

I usually blame www and her paeans to the bacon butty

Well done on 6 kilos marina, that's fantastic!

I realise reading this thread (and others) that I can never again go to London and order coffee, as would be like Bridget Jones' mum saying 'ooh, what's a white coffee?' (thinking about marina's 'skinny latte' - am country hick! Someone should publish a guide to buying coffee in town! Down here in the sticks we still buy 'coffee please. Yes I'd like milk, but no sugar thank you very much!'

Rambling again!

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 14/03/2008 11:59

6 kilos! Blimmin well done marina. I'm lol at Generation WTF

Sorry to hear about dh's colleague rebel. ds1 has his next stage interview in April. He still has a deferred RAF place and it's a sad indictment that he'd probably be safer in a war zone with them then in the Police here.

Yes TS the only coffee choices here are black/white or frothy. Oh and you might get offered cup or mug. I wouldn't know where to start ordering anything else!

Sorry that ds is poorly Iota Sicky sheets - dd is off sick today but that has lowered my stress levels somewhat as I've skived off work to look after her.

I've had a lovely (not) morning trying to get Travel Insurance cover for her for our holidays. Was banging my head against a brick wall for a while but thanks to a fab lady at Chapman Hurst who went the extra mile, it's all sorted. dh has gone to Cheltenham for the Gold Cup - he'll be back later hopefully having beaten the bookie

Am just about to walk to the shops as exercise isn't top of my list today but apart from that I have the intention of completing the bootcamp list before bed.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 14/03/2008 20:06

Quite a good day. Only 7000 steps but I have been swimming, oh the joy of not having an aching pelvis/coccyx etc for an hour. DCs were brilliant too, so big tick on the happy front.

I've eaten toasted hot cross bun, apple juice, crab & salad sandwich with mayo, RCs!, 2 chocolate digestives (post-swim emergency), 3 slices of pizza, lump of Cornish Yarg & poppy seed crackers and an orange. Plenty of water and too many coffees (real coffee but nothing skinny or frothy ).

Several applications of face & handcream, body scrub earlier and will Flexitol feet at bedtime. Hoping for early night but have some work to finish.

And hurrah because it's the weekend.

unknownrebelbang · 14/03/2008 22:49

Ooh, I'm Generation X, (aka Generation WTF?) PML, DH is a babyboomer. Never thought of him as that before! Am determined my little darlings won't become part of Generation Y! Will I succeed?

Any news yet www?

How's ds bama? and ds2 Iota? and dd saggars?

Where's DD going Batters? DS2+3 are off on a weekend away soon. DH attended the mtg tho, so I didn't have to listen to any insufferable nonsense.

Muchio Sympathy moonshine. Is anyone actually content with their job? I do like mine, but ooh the stress that surrounds it...makes shelf-stacking in Tesco seem desirable.

Six kilos is fab Marina, well done.

You feeling brighter today Saggars? I shudder at the thought of any of my boys joining the police (DS1 has indicated he might), but I think the risk of abuse is bigger than about actual danger iykwim. Never used to bother about DH, always used to think "someone else". I don't know what's changed, tbh, but over the last couple of years I've started to fret more. Maybe it's an age thing.

unknownrebelbang · 14/03/2008 22:54
  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze
  • 30 mins ex bike + two walks home from school (about 4 miles)
  • Lots of water/weak tea. Need a bit more.
  • Apply body cream as often as possible, lax
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, no
  • Go to bed early, midnightish last night
  • Eat healthily - far far too much bread today.
  • Be happy, well I've been off work today and DH was at home for most of the day so that was pleasant (did turn down his offer of lunch out though, not quite sure why), and it's the weekend yay! Boys have been better tonight. Only fly in the ointment is DH's odd shifts over the weekend, but hey, that's nothing new.
WideWebWitch · 15/03/2008 00:01

OP posts:
bamamama · 15/03/2008 02:01

tsk tsk www - have you seen the time? although "wine, row with dh, toast" does go some way to explain this. Hope all is ok.

Marina - fab news re 6 kilos - well done! Also much lol at "loyal, but high maintenance wibblers".

Duchess, glad you got some time off the sciatica, is it at all possible to spend the rest of your pregnancy in a swimming pool?

Batters, hope you enjoyed your wine tasting.

Iota - hope ds2 is feeling better.

Chutney - question for you - how long did it take between getting plans drawn up for you loft and the builders actually starting? We've an extension to build when we get back and I suspect it could take ages.

T/shell - I too used to order a white coffee but 7 months of living in the city and I caught myself ordering a skinny decaf cap the other day (although to be honest there is absolutely no point in that as a beverage. Should have had tea).

Saggar, glad you got your insurance sorted - going anywhere nice?

Ureb, it must be awful starting to fret more about dh, I think I'd find it rather stressful.

Anyhoo, ds back on fighting form - turned out to be a heat rash (that'll be $60 ta chi-ching says the doctor). Still I'm glad he's ok, as a rash it was quite ominous.

Drank too much wine last night but feel ok today. Off to see fireworks tonight and then tomorrow it's lunch at a vineyard then a wine tasting so bootcamping may go out of the window. Still it is the weekend - enjoy!

ChutneyMary · 15/03/2008 19:11

Bama - we were slotted in by the builders, so from having the plans to having the scaffolding put up was about 3 weeks. Our roof is now back on and it's really taking shape. thanks for all the sympathy - it was jolly cold but is roasty toasty again now.

Went to friends for dinner last night and ate and drank too much. Really good fun though. I shared the story of how DH and I met (on the internet 7 years ago, before it became acceptable)and people seemed quite touched. In the sober light of day, I may have overshared some of the details but hope they were all a bit drunk too and won't remember.

Sorry not to reply properly. It was a spicey late one, I've walked miles today and both kids are asleep so I'm off downstairs for a restorative sherry. I'll read and reply properly tomorrow.

Happy Saturday everyone

ChutneyMary · 15/03/2008 19:12

Or even spicy, sorry

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 15/03/2008 19:16

bama - I would quite happily float about for the next 9 weeks! Hope you enjoyed the vineyard - what were the fireworks for?

www - hope it wasn't a serious row.

Hope everyone else/DCs are feeling better.

I've had a reasonable day although I have been out, hammer in hand, wearing wellies and longish flowery maternity skirt (which is as near to a tea-dress as I'm going to manage for those of you giggling at my Cold Comfort Farm arrangements)!

I have eaten cereal, orange, ham/cheese/french bread/apple/clementine & raisins for lunch, Twirl, raw carrots. We made pizza dough in the breadmaker which means pizza 2 nights in a row but it was far superior to yesterdays from Waitrose so I think we'll be making our own regularly now that I don't have to faff about with the dough. (And they freeze well which will be useful for when the baby is born).

Lots of cream, fairly happy but so exhausted. I finished my work late last night and then unwound on here for an hour or so. Hardly slept a wink and had a face like a discarded old teabag this morning.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 15/03/2008 20:47

Bama - we had an extension 3 years ago. Getting plans drawn and passed probably took about 3 months. Builders started about 3 months later but only because we put off the build over the winter.

dd is a little better - hope all the others are too.

Question - does bootcamp allow whisky instead of wine? If not - well it's a bit late now lol!

yoyo · 16/03/2008 20:00

Am starting all over again tomorrow. Have told DH we have 4 weeks to get healthier and we have to make a concerted effort to do it together. No more "it was a crap day let's have wine/crisps/nuts/choc/cheese..". I am fed up of the crap day excuse and am also fed up with ny clothes just getting tighter and tighter. If at the end of 4 weeks sweet FA has happened then I am hitting WW.

About to put batteries into Moron.

Keep me on the straight and narrow please Bootcampers. You all seem to be sticking to the rules pretty well.

Prufrock · 16/03/2008 20:03

I've eaten the sticky toffee pudding, am finishing the 1/3 bottle wine that is left and will go upstairs in a while to scrub and cream. Tomorrow I will be saintly.
