Welcome to week 2 of the second WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2008. Hello everyone.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's winter
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Helloooo...everyone?
so not many power walkers on here today then
Am doing fine on water and eating front, decided not to brave the gales and horizontal sheets of rain at lunchtime, am feeling amazingly better than even this morning. My white blood cells are on top of things again today
Am humbled by bama's awesome mileage - and yes, that must be muscle, surely.
Hope batters made it home safely from babysitting her diminutive little diplomat, and Duchess has not been blown into the trees...

moonshine · 10/03/2008 17:27

Bamamama - is that a typing error??? Nearly 60 miles . And the rest. I genuflect at your (obviously very toned) feet.

Batters - out of the mouths of babes and all that - it's a lovely compliment.

WWW - have you come up with an exit strategy then?

I too managed a gym session on Sunday but 38 mins of huffing and puffing on the treadmill and some weights have left me with a John Wayne walk as my inner thighs have not seen such action in a very long while. I did start to have a glass of wine in the evening but then could only drink half of it so felt mildly smug (although the raspberry and apple crumble after the huge Sunday roast should make me otherwise).

I am getting very impatient with the weather as I am desperate for a bit of sunshine (am not bothered so much about the warmth). In preparation, and as I should not be spending any money, I ordered a skirt and top from White Stuff - oops. And, for those of you who have clothes from there, you'll understand about the wonder of their 'vanity' sizing .

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 10/03/2008 19:38

Eek what a day! Rather windy, lots of outbuildings to repair (again) and everything back to being under 2ft of mud. How's the weather with you now t/shell?

bama - fabulous amounts of exercise.
marina - glad to hear your recovery continues.
batters - arf at 'gym hippo' and at compliment.
moonshine - I think you should get extra points for doing a gym session on a Sunday! Good work.

Just 6000 steps again for me today but I have mucked out and wandered about the wet fields checking storm damage and I had 3 separate school runs so I'm a bit .

I've eaten toast & marmite, coffee, shortbread biscuit, veg soup & crust from homemade bread (Mmmm!), orange, raw carrots , a few crackers and parma ravioli in a tomatoey sauce with large slices of mozzarella on top. Another orange and lots of water.

Last night I ate half a G&B easter egg (godfather bought bag of eggs for the DCs last weekend but DS doesn't eat chocolate so it's a miracle it lasted so long)!

Several applications of both face & hand cream to combat the weather. Will do feet later.

unknownrebelbang · 10/03/2008 20:46

Glad you're feeling a bit better Marina.

10 am's early for a party isn't it? Amazing how time runs away though isn't it?

The boys like Amerton, although we hadn't been for a while (even better without the boys imvho, we had no "can I have" whilst I was trying to choose between the various goodies, lol).

Bama I'm surrounded by grisly goings-on...I work within the CJS too. To be fair to DH, the places were quite infamous for a while. Can't say that I've noticed him doing it too much before...or maybe I just don't listen, lol.

We were in the car though, sadly, I don't do jogging, lol.

60 miles - wow, that's stunning.

Batters, I think that's quite cute from your nephew.

  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze
  • 30 mins ex bike.
  • Lots of water/weak tea.
  • Apply body cream as often as possible, lax
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, yes
  • Go to bed at 8pm, asleep by 10ish, in fact I had two early nights
  • Eat healthily - far too much bread today.
  • Be happy. Not bad (for a Monday, lol). Managed to 2/3 deadlines out of the way, and also managed to sneak a quick lunch with a colleague whilst ostensibly checking her work. She even did me the favour of making a minor error, so that I could justify escaping from the office, lol.
WideWebWitch · 10/03/2008 21:25

sorry, didn't start another thread shall we stay here this week?

batters, how lovely from your dn!

59000 MILES, wow!

oh well done to everyone, sorry, I have just read you all, will reply to everyone more fully tomorrow.

I have decided I can't leave until I get something else but I have no time to find something else so it's a bit Catch 22. So I must make time, hmm. Typed a load of boring old detail there but deleted as it's tmi, frankly.

Am drinking wine, I'm afraid.

Lol, it does have its amusing moments....
(and not just black humour).

And they do say fact is stranger than fiction.

I'm just off to work, having been thwarted in my attempt to walk home from school this morning again.

unknownrebelbang · 11/03/2008 09:07

(Good luck at the gym).

LoveAndSqualor · 11/03/2008 10:10

Morning all, sorry for lack of weekend posts - the interweb has been v patchy round our way for the last couple of days.

WWW, oy vey to the work business. Catch-22 sounds about right. Don't really have any useful suggestions, but what does come across is how unhappy you are with the current situation - second what Batters said about poss taking a week off to see if you can blitz it?

Marina, v glad you're feeling better, sickness sounded horrid.

Duchess, bad luck about the repairs and the mud, at the G&B easter egg! I have descended into a vat of chocolate and cake over the last few days, due to a combination of hordes of pre-baby visitors and my sudden inability to do much more than raise a weary hand from the sofa. Think i may have said this already, but visits from couples with 2+ kids makes me realise how comparatively easy a first pg must be - I can nap and sit around as I feel like, which certainly won't be the case next time! Have decided to make the most of this luxury rather than moan about the drag of these last days.

Soooo - as you may gather, bootcamping rather off the menu at the moment, though I am slathering myself in unguents and went for a pre-child haircut yesterday, which was v nice. My gorgeous, insane, Italian hairdresser (who I like so much I actually talk to, rather than defensively burying my nose in a book/magazine) spent much of the hour trying to persuade me to call the baby Lorenzo . Managed a small swim on Saturday morning, and finally sorted out a room for the baby, but otherwise I really have been lying on the sofa eating crap (and imagine this pattern will continue up to childbirth). Exercise this morning will consist of wobbling round to a friend's house for tea ...

feetheart · 11/03/2008 10:38

L&S - sounds like you have it sussed, lounging and scoffing is the ONLY way to prepare for childbirth IMO

Off to drag reluctant DS round Sainsburys if we are to eat tonight - menu-planning slightly awry as had forgotten Parents Evening tonight and need to have meal ready to eat within minutes of coming back or meltdown will ensue - possibly children, more likely to be me
Will update later.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 11/03/2008 20:10

So how are the gym-bunnies this evening? Anymore 'John Waynes'?

L&S - resting is good and you need the extra food to get through the birth and b/feed and er, blah, blah!

I've had a hard day, at least physically. Repairing damaged barn roof from yesterdays winds, DH in town so had to do all the animals and cart DD2 on both school runs and it rained hard everytime we went out. DCs are now fast asleep and I have just finished evening hay.

I have eaten porridge, lime & iron supplement, orange, ham with avocado & salad & breadsticks, yoghurt, raw carrots!, griddled chicken kebabs (in current Waitrose magazine) with quinoa and plain stir-fry veg. Dinner was gorgeous and I'd recommend the kebabs. I've had a couple of biscuits too.

I have drunk lots of water but neglected everything else. If I can muster the energy I might slap on some lotion before I go to bed but I might be beyond caring today.

unknownrebelbang · 11/03/2008 20:57

Fleeting visit tonight.

  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze
  • 30 mins ex bike.
  • Lots of water/weak tea.
  • Apply body cream as often as possible, lax
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, yes
  • Go to bed - midnight last night.
  • Eat healthily - not too bad today, althoug portion control slightly haywire...
  • Be happy. Yes. Spent an hour watching DS3 in some dance thing (lots of different schools involved). Not the most scintillating evening, but quite enjoyable (DS3's class were of course superb... ) He's not bad for a lad built for rugby, hehe.
WideWebWitch · 11/03/2008 21:02

God DofN, you are impressive, you do loads of physical stuff, wow.

L&S, thanks, you MUST sit around as much as possible, enjoy!

Batters, thanks , hope gym was ok

I got in at 8.45 tonight as central line so shite I missed my train. But decided to make best of it and go for a glass of wine in first class lounge. And called dh and said "check online, have they got showers?" and he couldn't find out but I was considering going to The Body Shop, getting shampoo and conditioner and at least getting a hair washing chore out of the way at Euston but anyway, he couldn't find it so I didn't get shampoo but went in the loos and they DO have showers! But no towels and there's nowhere to buy one at Euston, hmm. I need one of those childrens expanding ones or something don't I? I had also decided it would be a bit too tragic to start trying to do personal grooming chores at Euston, first cals or not, so I had a glass of wine instead and read my book. And tried to look on the briht side as at least the later train was a Virgin fast one.

Chased boss on proposal (via email) and she hasn't answered, which doesn't bode well but dh and I have agreed if they say no I say ok, here's my 2 weeks notice. Fuck it.

Anyway, terrible day bootcampwise
toast
houmous sanswich THEN rem, embered going to lnunch with boss at PE in Ealing. And it was weird because I once had supper with my dad there before he died and I marrid dh1 in ealing reg office and I spent lots of time walking madly around the shops there when ds was a ababy (he's 10 now) and it was just a bit oddly nostalgic. I was sad about my lost youth mainly and my dad. I was 31 when ds was born
Chicken caesar salad
banoffee pie
coffee (no wine)
then choc covred peanuts and raisins at Euston
and japanese rice crackers at bar
and have glass of wine now but going to bed soon

marina · 11/03/2008 21:09

Oh, www
Another rotten journey. Thinking of you.
Good-ish bootcamp today but still no walking due to it being Meeting Madness at work. Must get in to gear? But lots of cream, water, healthy eating and appreciation of no more tonsillitis here

feetheart · 11/03/2008 22:15

DofN - hope you had more than a couple of biscuits after your exertions, sounds like hard work.

WWW - hope you get some resolution to the work situation soon, it really sounds awful.

  • Sunscreen - no, forgot!
  • Booze/chocolate (my downfall is pigging out on all things sweet) - a few too many choc crispies cakes going round Sainsburys, they were for a friend who was looking after children later. She did get some so not all was lost
  • Walking - scraped 6,000 as only walked to school once today and no time for hula hoop
  • Water - not brilliant
  • Body cream - yes
  • Hand cream/foot cream - yes
  • Go to bed early - off after I've posted this
  • Eat healthily - OKish
  • Be happy - busy day but nice Parents Evening for DD (just 5) whose teacher said she was lovely!
tortoiseSHELL · 11/03/2008 22:19

Sorry you had a bad journey www. Here's hoping your boss is just being crap on the email and will be happy about your proposal.

I know what you mean about 'lost youth' and that nostalgic feeling. Dh was out last Friday night for a curry, so I watched a DVD my brother gave me for my bday last year - 'Starter for 10' - which is all about a student in his first year at Bristol uni, and I did feel REALLY melancholy for that time - seeing the union, and student flats, and the halls of residence etc, I did yearn for that time a bit.

Glad you're feeling better marina .

Duchess - you need a GOLD STAR!

It's REALLY windy here tonight! The 'storm' on Monday never really got going imo (it was blustery but no more) but it really is blowing a gale here tonight. I'm really shattered as was very good mum with ds2 this morning, and didn't scatter toys on the floor for him to play with whilst I MNetted - we did playdough, drawing, reading, playing Happy Land, then since picking the kids up and doing reading/piano/violin, I also sang in a recording session and played for a Bach B minor mass rehearsal. So am VERY tired, and cooking pasta with pesto, garlic bread and wine, then to bed!

moonshine · 11/03/2008 22:38

Evening all especially to those of us who are awake and should be in bed (although 10:15 feels like an ungodly-ish early hour to go to bed, even though I'm tired ).

Batters - I always try to do at least half an hour on the treadmill, but the amount of time I can actually run/jog is very minimal still atm - I have lots of huffing and puffing recovery time trying to catch my breath. My inner thighs still hate me today and are begging me to lay off the exercise but I have packed my gym bag all ready to go tomorrow morning before work.

As for White Stuff - I find that I always have to go down at least one size, especially in skirts, and am sure I have read on MN that others have experienced the same. In contrast I tried some clothes on in H&M and, as usual, I have to go up a size - please tell me this isn't just me who finds this!

WWW - surely the end of your terrible commuting hell is nigh now that you have a Plan. Good luck with it.

Duchess - I have visions of you in a long flowing tea dress and Cath Kidston wellies, clambouring onto the roof of your barn, hammer in hand with a storm raging round your head before descending to cook yet another healthy gourmet meal (although, in all honesty, I'm not sure I am tempted by the porridge, lime and iron supplement concoction but each to their own ).

And it's taken me so long to compose this post that maybe I should think about emptying the dishwasher and going to bed (if I can take the excitement). Good night all.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 11/03/2008 22:49

Eek moonshine - yes should be in bad really.

www - that journey sounds grim

Good news - I lost 2 pounds last week. Went to Bodytone class last night but have done nothing today (except work ho hum) Davina has arrived but is still in the wrapper. This class is great but I doo fear for my pelvic floor sometimes as there's much jumping around. Doing OK otherwise though, bar being pretty stressed at work - surrounded by germ laden children, end of financial year, end of term (that should be a good point really) and an inspection on the horizon. Happy days!

The wind has really got up here - sounds like we might have a rough night. Hope all is calm elsewhere.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 11/03/2008 22:50

bad bed

LOL at Sweet Stuart and Monosyllabic Michael batters and well done on getting a programme sorted
Am also LOLing at the vignette of duchess clambering about Cold Comfort Farm style on the roof of her quaking barn, nice one moonshine
Well, I may not have eaten much over the past couple of weeks (stress and then tonsillitis) but I don't seem to have lost any more weight probably because lying on the sofa shivering is not that energetic. Oh well!
Sounds like wine was deserved all round last night, what with good reports at parents' evening and a surfeit of playdoh!
I am lunching with an occasional bootcamper today. We have scoured the City for a all you can eat Tex Mex dive salad bar so will be sure to keep it moderate

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 12/03/2008 14:11

batters - well done, SS sounds nice but I think I'd avoid MM too.

marina - I love Cold Comfort Farm - and we are in Sussex. I don't have sons named Seth & Reuben though. (Though if I had a son that looked like Seth I might be as lascivious as Cousin Judith!

I'm having a better day. More later.

marina · 12/03/2008 14:14

Be still my beating heart! He was born to play that role. We don't see nearly enough of Rufus on the box IMO

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 12/03/2008 14:24

Now I'm happily remembering Rufus washing in the farmyard trough and realise I don't have the right staff here...!
