Do we have a boot thread yet? A/W 2023

Ankle boots are usually my absolute comfort zone but with skinny trousers going out of fashion I'm a bit lost. What boots are we all planning to buy/wear this year, and how do I work wider leg trousers into my autumn wardrobe? I live in a cold and wet part of the UK.

I expect Solvair, Lanx, Joseph Cheaney and Birkenstock make teeny, tiny adjustments to their boots from season to season but otherwise they just make boots.

Those 4 brands are, for me, miles ahead of the fashion brands suggested.

notlucreziaborgia · 03/09/2023 16:08

I’d add Fratelli Rossetti and Tod’s as fantastic brands for classic, well made shoes and boots. My pairs from both have lasted years.

Early last year I bought the 2021 equivalent of these,

https://www.grenson.com/fran-womens-brogue-boots-in-tan-leather/

from Grenson. Never really got on with them, so I’m glad to have something a little more elegant. No stupid laces and an enforced wardrobe re-think - all good.

My beloved black Chelsea boots are at the stage where they’d probably be cheaper to replace than repair (countless resole and re-heelings), so I’m enjoying browsing options, with no immediate intention to buy.

If you ever sell them and are a size 6 please let me know where they're posted. I absolutely love them, even though I would look like one of the Mr Men.

KirstenBlest · 03/09/2023 16:15

@NatashaDancing , I think that Solovair make standard boots but do them in different colours and finishes occasionally, and they have collaborations with other brands. I have the Jade boots from Toast, which are a variation on the Astronaut boots. Toast also had slightly different dealer boots (Dora) and monkey boots (Ava).

I got mine because I wanted a style that would go with lots of different outfits and not become dated after a couple of years, and I had a clear out of my DMs because I didn't rate the quality.

JofraArchersFastestBall · 03/09/2023 16:22

Ohh, since we're talking about green Solovairs, I'll add my recent Vinted purchase. I'd been hankering after some green ones and couldn't resist these when they appeared in my size... I've gone over them with some dubbin and they've come up beautifully.

Very nice @JofraArchersFastestBall

I'm a bit funny about zips, but M&S always seem to get footwear right

Hell will freeze over before I'll wear anything that isn't slim leg.
My daughter is 13, and she also thinks wide leg jeans are hideous (and lets be honest, she's right!) 😂
That said, she favours platform soled shoes/boots/trainers (and I hate platform soles), so we don't agree on everything...

Inside zips on " lace up" ankle boots are big NO for me.

Stressedafff · 04/09/2023 02:14

I’m going with patent black kickers boots. Absolutely no wayyyy am I sacrificing practicality for style again 🤣 I think I practically slid everywhere last year

Cluelessat33 · 04/09/2023 07:30

To be fair, you'll have to prize skinny jeans out of my cold dead hands. This year I bought a pair of joules leather hiker boots and I'm looking forward to wearing these with dresses and skirts. I have WAAAAY too many boots. Brown Chelsea boots, black riding style boots, brown riding style boots, tan cowboy boots, black Chelsea boots. I only wear boots over the winter period (warm, dry feet for the win). For work I'll generally wear them with skirts or dresses. Normal wear are generally with black or blue skinnies. skinnies. However I think the hiker boots will give me more scope to widen my trousers outlook. However I do think however much skinnies may not be en vogue at the moment, they will always in style. A good fitting pair of skinny jeans and a quality pair of boots is a classic, timeless look. In my unqualified opinion.

I agree on the skinnies. They're literally just leg covering really - I need something between a chunky jumper and chunky boot! Some days I can't be bothered to think about an outfit and I go black skinnies, black Docs.

I just spent too much money on suede knee high boots from Duoboots; I know I'm probably hopelessly dated but I love long suede boots with midi dresses and a smart coat. I'm totally ignoring the fact I wfh and will spend the autumn/winter in the house only going out on (inevitably) rainy school runs and they are a totally impractical purchase.

I really fancy these from Joe Brown's but they fall into "fashion" rather than "good quality will last for years" so I'm not sure. I'll order them I think and see if I like them.

I think flat boots look a bit weird with wide legged trousers, at least on me. A slight heel, block or chunky, tends to work better on me. It's weird, because wide legged trousers look great with trainers, but I find them harder to pair with shoes/boots!

Exactly this. All my trainers look great with wide leg trews but wondering what to do when the weather changes. I bought Dr Marten platform Jayden boots 2 years ago and can’t really justify buying another pair of boots. Is it me, or do wide leg trousers just seem to not go with clumpy boots? Like, by making your silhouette wider, you (I speak for myself) need to make other aspects of your appearance more delicate? I’m a short, plump-ish person so don’t want to be as wide as I am tall!

NancyJoan · 04/09/2023 10:56

Chunky soled Chelsea boots or a lace up Grenson boot for me. I also have some chunky loafers to wear before it’s completely boot weather.

NancyJoan · 04/09/2023 11:05

@WollyParton I think with wide legs and a flat shoe/boot you need your hems slightly shorter, so they hit your ankle.

That’s helpful thanks…yes, my favourite pair of wide leg pants from Hush are that length and the most flattering. I’m a 26 leg so will need to take stuff to be altered.

clowniform · 04/09/2023 11:18

I'm lusting after this pair, though trying to find a cheaper alternative first. Clearly green-boot mood is in the air!

I'm feeling the other skinny jean fans I'm too short and petite to have swathes of fabric wearing me.

I need flexible soles for my size 3 'pigs trotter' feet (think little toddler shoe soles!) so those chunky, tractor-tyre soles give me blisters in odd places, plus the heavy masculine styles wear me.

I go for something more dainty and neater, and have these ordered as a birthday present;
https://www.carvela.com/women/shoes/boots/ankle-boots/addison-black-suede-carvela-comfort-1052600209?istCompanyId=5d29e1c9-8e90-448b-aba7-d122dc5e5729&istFeedId=a4790684-ecc7-4b34-b796-4fa085d68cfc&istItemId=lxmwlpmtm&istBid=t&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI6L6qyuWQgQMViNXtCh3VKQvWEAQYAiABEgKXzvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
More than double what I've ever spent on boots before, but I tried them on in store and my god they were like walking on clouds!! Flexi soles, memory foam insoles comfy heel height....

Not very 'on trend' I know, but they'll be a joy to wear.

Fannyannie · 04/09/2023 16:32

@Possimpible

Why oh why did I open this bloody thread. I now want those Celtic boots so so much !!

And @ CassiniG I think those eye watering expensive boots from Russell and Bromley should /could go viral - if I can bend my foot into them ( doesn’t always work ) they are PERFECTION !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Aaagghhhhhhh

“I live in a cold and wet part of the UK.“

Thanks, that really narrows it down to the whole of the UK.

KirstenBlest · 04/09/2023 19:56

@TwilightBee , some regions are wetter than others.

EffortlessDesmond · 04/09/2023 20:20

Outfits start from the shoe up in the UK, because weather IS a factor. Cold and dry is much, much easier than cold and wet. But as cold and wet is my default setting, I tend to choose chunky and waterproof (hiking) footwear most of the time. And then choose jeans style (or leggings and waterproof over-trousers in a downpour = 4x weekly). Dry, warm feet is the priority, but I never quite let go the notion that it should look decent too.
