Do we have a boot thread yet? A/W 2023

Ankle boots are usually my absolute comfort zone but with skinny trousers going out of fashion I'm a bit lost. What boots are we all planning to buy/wear this year, and how do I work wider leg trousers into my autumn wardrobe? I live in a cold and wet part of the UK.

I’ve got some lovely brogue boots from Lanx that have been my go-to for the last couple of years but I am also thinking of longer boots now. I think I’m leaning that way because everything seems a midi length dress wise. I’m only 160cm so ankle boot + midi dress doesn’t really work. I can’t decide if I want to go for something chunky/biker below knee or something more slender/sock boot possibly even above knee? (Though that choice in itself causes problems at my height!)

I have a pair of black lace up ankle boots with buckles from Dune which will do another turn this year. I wanted something chunkier so got these last week in the sale . Think that will do me for this winter. www.debenhams.com/product/ravel-brown-nell-leather-ankle-boots_p-cd9ade00-adfe-46de-80c7-494030711d43

My heart is set on these chunky heeled Docs this year

I have been ogling these too but just couldn't bring myself to part with the cash. They are amazing!

Redwinestillfine · 02/09/2023 14:53

Any ideas for boots to go with smart fitted knee length/ midi dresses?

RaisinCain · 02/09/2023 15:05

I don’t do chunky boots and have resisted this fashion so far, so I’m looking for more classic styles that still look a bit current. I also don’t do wide legged trousers, so I’m looking for boots that go with slim/straight/tapered trousers, or dresses. Oh, and no heels as I’m tall and don’t need the height and can’t walk in heels. It’s making it quite hard, but I am a determined sort Grin.

I’ve got some black ankle boots with a sort of brogue detailing from last year that I plan to wear again as they went with a lot of my clothes.

I’d quite like some knee length boots this year. Maybe western/cowboy style, in black and maybe tan/brown, to wear with longer skirts. Boden have some lovely ones but they’re a bit pricey for my humble budget.

Any recommendations for comfortable (ie only a tiny heel, can walk in them for hours) and waterproof boots? Both knee high and ankle would be good.

Janettz · 02/09/2023 16:43

I have 2 x 35L pull-out rectangular bins in a kitchen cupboard and I haven’t been able to find bin liners that aren’t either massively too big, or too small. I’ve tried Brabantia and Simple Human liners with no luck. What do others use please?

MetaDaughter · 02/09/2023 16:51

This is a thread about Autumn/Winter boots, @Janettz - not bins!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/09/2023 16:57

I think flat boots look a bit weird with wide legged trousers, at least on me. A slight heel, block or chunky, tends to work better on me. It's weird, because wide legged trousers look great with trainers, but I find them harder to pair with shoes/boots!

Heeled boots are getting more popular. Cowboy boots are in.
I love my ankle boots and have lots of them. I also have mid-calf boots.

If skinny jeans are out of fashion, why are the shops still selling them?

Have you any idea of the style of cowboy boots that are in? I would love a pair, especially as a horsey girl with fields at home. I can’t open the gates without mud in winter and so can’t wear nice shoes unless I faff about and change in the car. I mainly wear country boots as it’s easier but I’m a bit bored now of them. I quite fancy a pair of cowboy boots.

Same here @RaisinCain I am the wrong shape for skinny jeans ( unless its summer and I can turn them up a few times and wear a long top). I just feel all wrong in wide legs,no matter how fashionable they are. So I’m hoping I can get another year out of straight and bootcut jeans/trousers

UsernameNotAvailableNow · 02/09/2023 17:04

That vogue article up thread is insane. Who in their right mind would pair a rugby shirt with denim bermudas and really heavy biker boots?? Every outfit in that article is ridiculous.

BestIsWest · 02/09/2023 17:06

@notlucreziaborgia the 2nd FlyLondon are probably the closest (and lovely colour). I’d need a 42 or 43 though. Thanks for looking!

What does everyone think of this sort of thing? (A sort of hybrid of the styles I was thinking of 😁)

@Janettz I brought some back from self-catering in Portugal that fitted perfectly, but have the same problem as you!

On the boots front, I might just have bought (another pair of) Andia Fora kneelength flattish ones in lead grey from Yoox at half price. Still expensive, but rather dashing and the 38 will fit perfectly.

MrsVeryTired · 02/09/2023 18:16

I'm on the hunt for chunky biker style boots, spotted Ugg Ashtons for great price on BrandAlley a few days ago but was too slow, now sold out in my size Sad

I bought these babies on ebay, they're originally from Clarks.

I already have some brown leather ankle boots that I love, but I fancied these for the rounded toe and the braiding detail. I'm a lifelong cowgirl at heart.

I’d look for some cowboy boots on eBay. I got mine in Texas and they’re made by Ariat but Justin is another legit brand. Mine are tooled but not too blingy looking. I was hoping to find brown ropers while in the US this summer but the thrift gods did not shine on me. I did find some proper vintage moto boots though which are quite tall and I have no clue how to wear them yet.

Lovely boots. That dress is gorgeous too!

DeathStarCanteenGal · 02/09/2023 19:25

Just bought these, kinda DMish, but with a handy zip at the side and colour somewhere between dark red and purple

The leg part is fine but I hate those ugly tractor tyre soles which just about every boot on this thread has.

I'll be sticking with Lanx Chipping and Joseph Cheaney Balmoral and an ancient Stuart Weizmann black suede over the knee boots and and an ancient pair of Ted and Muffy black leather over the knee boots - all with normal soles.

I struggle - 2007 until 2020 I worked for a boot company and got loads of free pairs so I could go crazy - ankle, OTK, biker, red patent that one time. Now I have to pay!

It's my third winter for my chestnut brown Grenson Nanettes and second for my cream suede pair. I've also got black Dr Martens and some brown Serenas. So honestly I don't really know what to buy. I sold all my knee highs except one pair of Dubarry-a-like waterproof country boots.

I'm going to be replacing my summer uniform of platform Converse with rolled jeans with the Docs and honestly I think with wide legs I'm going to stick with fitted tops and the Converse. I don't think I can quite go back to 2003 me with the chunky boots and wet jean hems.

Yeah it was the chunky sole I wasn’t so sure about, though I don’t mind a chunky sole the tread isn’t my favourite. (My Lanx are the Langho which are like Chipping but chunkier)
