Is this ok to get married in?

What do you think of this dress?

Eloping so just two witnesses in a registry office. I'm 36 and size 10 and same skin shade as the model. I'm not a girly girl so pretty clueless however I have worn navy dresses in the past so know they suit me. Don't want anything too fancy but I do like this.

Also it's on November so thought about a jacket like this?

What do you think? Or any other suggestions for a jacket maybe cheaper 😀 and shoes like the model has on seem ok.

Thanks if you have any thoughts.

Beautiful dress

Be very careful getting something navy to go with the dress. Navy is very inconsistent and it be noticeable if you have two different shades.

Medusaismyhero · 18/08/2023 22:24

I'm 10 years older than you and wouldn't wear that to work let alone my wedding. You're young, slim and in love! Buy something beautiful that makes you feel amazing. Not something that makes you look like a middle aged solicitor who may or may not be a serial killer.

wanttokickoffbutcant · 18/08/2023 22:40

I was going to be a bit snarky and ask if you were getting married in an office but when I read that are you marrying in a registry office in a very small ceremony - I actually think it is lovely. You will get further use out of the outfit and will also be able to go about the rest of your day after the marriage.

Congratulations in advance!!

I really like it

Newmum110 · 18/08/2023 23:06

OP it's a very nice dress & it's all about what you feel comfortable in. However I do think that long sleeves may be better so you don't have the hassle of finding a suitable jacket. I love navy & think the Wolf & Banger & Monsoon dresses are both lovely & possibly a little more special.

Charming.

Even if you dont like it, there are ways of saying it that dont make you look like a complete arse. HTH

You could get married in your jammies, if you so wished. If you like the dress & feel good in it then in answer to Is this ok to get married in? is yes.

isitshe · 18/08/2023 23:29

Oh, and congratulations and very best wishes for your wedding!

Nat6999 · 18/08/2023 23:39

Ds got married in the registry office this afternoon & the couple who got married before him, the bride had that style dress on in Burgundy.

IamEarthymama · 19/08/2023 00:11

I think this is beautiful and just the thing for a bride who doesn’t want a traditional look!

Timetoflower22 · 19/08/2023 00:19

I think a gorgeous elegant white dress would suit! This is giving 'mother of the bride' vibes more than anything to me personally. Sorry OP!

PyongyangKipperbang · 19/08/2023 00:26

@thisdress1234

All you are going to get is people telling what they would wear if they could. But it isnt them getting married is it? Its you. Do you love it? Then wear it. If you dont then keep looking. The only thing I would say is that if you are not sure to the point where you need to ask on MN, then it probably isnt the one.

wowthatsharsh · 19/08/2023 00:26

I think you should wear a navy pashmina shawl/wrap with that dress. They feel comfortable to wear but can look very glam!

KCandtheSunlightBand · 19/08/2023 01:23

I’m sorry OP, I agree with the half of posters that think it’s frumpy, and I’m old enough to be your Mother! The Wolf and Badger one is lovely as is the velvet tea dress someone linked to, and either of those are more appropriate for a November wedding. Go to town a little bit, don’t wear something that you could wear to the office, it should be a special day for you.

SequinsandStiIettos · 19/08/2023 02:03

Only matters how it makes you feel.

inappropriateraspberry · 19/08/2023 04:47

There are so many, prettier, more 'special' dresses you could choose! This is boring. As other have said it's like work west or a wedding guest outfit. You're getting married! Get something wow! A beautiful dress that you can wear for other special occasions - not something you get married in on Saturday, then wear to work on Monday.

thisdress1234 · 19/08/2023 06:29

Thanks all for the replies off to work so will read through late. I'm open to any colour jacket.

As some have mentioned yes I know you should wear what you're comfortable in etc but I do have summer dresses I wear and I am comfy in them as long as they're knee length or shorter. I just don't suit long dresses.

I do really like the dress I've looked at loads and I just kinda thought yep, that's the one!

Those saying they'd wear it to work I totally get that. I've always worn scrubs to work and look like a bag lady!

I appreciate all of your comments and ideas. I'm glad I asked on here.

I've got autism and clothes drive me mad and o guess that's why I find it hard. It takes me ages to make a decision on a pair of jeans so this is way out of my comfort zone.

I also get what you mean about maybe needing something more wow but I'm not sure that's me hence the eloping. I hate people looking at me. Blush
