Is this ok to get married in?

What do you think of this dress?

www.hobbs.com/product/scarlett-embroidered-dress/0223-5830-9045L00-NAVY-YELLOW.html

Eloping so just two witnesses in a registry office. I'm 36 and size 10 and same skin shade as the model. I'm not a girly girl so pretty clueless however I have worn navy dresses in the past so know they suit me. Don't want anything too fancy but I do like this.

Also it's on November so thought about a jacket like this?

What do you think? Or any other suggestions for a jacket maybe cheaper 😀 and shoes like the model has on seem ok.

Thanks if you have any thoughts.

I think everyone should get married in something like this. But your idea is also lovely.

I know someone who got married in a pink and silver dress not too unlike this, I think she had massive regret afterwards, has worn white outfits for DC special occasions since, I think she probably will wear white when DC gets married, oops!

Perfect dress for the occasion. This ivory jacket might work if it’s not too white for your wedding vibe:

I came on here to suggest this one too!

OneMoreCookieMonster · 18/08/2023 20:54

Sorry but I hate it. You're only 36 and getting married not going to a conference. It has absolutely no personality to it, the shape is blah especially if you're a size 10. Add the jacket and god forbid tights and it's aged you at least 10 years.

Hopefully ypu will have hair and makes up done professionally.

Because, your eloping it should be more magical and special that you're not tied to or expected to conform to tradition. It's about you and your soon to be, make a perfect memory!

If you some styling advice or tips please feel free to pm. I'm on mat leave and bored. (It's the work I do) depending where ypu live and getting married I can also point you in the direction of some professionals to help.

Going against the grain but I think the Hobbs dress is a bit more mother of the bride than bride. I’d look for something more contemporary and elegant.

Don’t love the Wolf and Badger dress pp shared but I’d recommend scouring there and Anthropologie, Wyse and other similar brands for some special but still very wearable.

Meadowflower2023 · 18/08/2023 21:15

We eloped too OP for the same reasons. We had the best day! We still wore fairly traditional wedding attire as I wanted some lovely pictures of us not in our usual get up. I'm a little older than you but wouldn't have chosen your dress as it's too formal and I like boho vibes but if it's what you like and what you're comfortable wearing then that is absolutely all that matters. Best wishes for your wedding.

What about this? Has sleeves so no need for another layer. Its very beautiful.

luckbealadytonight · 18/08/2023 21:41

I do think it's a little bit frumpy for a 36yo, especially for getting married in.

You either need to wear what you feel happy in or go out of your comfort zone and find something a bit special.

I eloped too and wore a dress from reformation.

It's nice but not something I'd get married in. I'm 38 and it's something I'd wear to work. I'd imagine it as a wedding outfit on someone much older.

Soakitup37 · 18/08/2023 21:44

I can see why you like it but it looks very aging and more like a guest outfit to a wedding. Eloping or not I think you deserve something a bit more special which you could defo find for a price of that dress and jacket. Something that shape with a lovely coat would be beautiful

Lenald2512 · 18/08/2023 21:47

I don’t like it, think it’s maybe for older women, but that’s just one persons opinion.

If you feel beautiful wear it, I’m sure you will, it’s just not my style.

2o23 · 18/08/2023 21:50

We eloped. I wore a brown long dress from Monsoon. It was thereafter given to a charity shop.

I suppose it depends on how much value you put on clothes.

Do what makes you feel happy. Don't worry about others.

RedDedRedemption · 18/08/2023 21:51

It's your wedding, you can choose any dress you like. But I personally wouldn't get married in that, as lovely as it is looks a bit too professional. What comes up when you google 'occasion wear'? anything take your fancy?

Fourlegsandatail · 18/08/2023 21:52

Noooooooo I’d wear this to work!!!

ShoesoftheWorld · 18/08/2023 21:59

I think the dress is pretty ordinary, tbh - the PP who said 'you're not going to a conference' had it right, I think. I really like the velvet one above.

It's your wedding so you can make the rules here. As others have said, it does look more like a wedding guest dress than a bridal gown, but if you absolutely love it and really want to wear it then why not? On the other hand, if you're only cimsidering it because you're not really sure and don't want to spend wedding dress money, I might keep looking. Find something you love, that flatters you and that will make you feel fabulous. I don't care whether that's a bin bag from Tesco or a replica Marilyn Monroe gown, just be sure it's really what you want.

RaceToTheMiddle · 18/08/2023 22:03

If you want honesty, then sorry but I don’t like it!

You’re only 36, to me that looks so frumpy. I am a few years older than you and would never wear something like this.

With your figure and age and the fact it’s your wedding!!! I think you can do better

Elis44 · 18/08/2023 22:06

I would search The Outnet for something a little more ‘fun’.

Have you considered a jumpsuit?

unicornsandchocolate · 18/08/2023 22:08

I like the dress, and agree with pp that Hobbs clothes tend to fit well. I think if I were eloping I would wear something like this; sleeves, so no need for a jacket, and Ghost clothes also fall really nicely....www.ghost.co.uk/madison-dress15-d05g001-k10

Dillane · 18/08/2023 22:10

Beautiful outfit. What about a cashmere wrap instead of a jacket?

This is lovely.
The Hobbs dress is very nice but you are only 36. This dress might be too old as well .

That’s lovely

k1233 · 18/08/2023 22:13

I read these threads and always end up confused. Some of the options posted are what I consider frumpy - shapeless and poorly cut, hang horribly and would look decidedly worse on a non model figure.

Personally I like clothes with subtle detail. So OPs dress, to me, is lovely. The small edging detail at neck and waist is beautiful. I think its a lovely dress to get married in.

I like the long sleeve dress suggested as well. It's a shame you can't see the fastenings on the cuffs as that would be the make or break detail for me. Regular flat buttons would ruin it.

IDontLikeMondays88 · 18/08/2023 22:13

i agree the outfit is too old for a 36 year old. It’s like a mother of the bride outfit
