@PretLea i tried some and bear in mind they are tiny! I had to hve a large and maybe they are even smaller now. They are meant to be tight as they are layers

Noodle421 · 31/08/2023 10:42

If anyone is interested, I saw someone try on and buy the duffle style coat in the shop - I was casting a few admiring glances and she offered to let me try it on too. It’s a beautiful coat, substantial but not too weighty and great quality ( as it should be !!). It’s a rich and dark midnight blue and hangs well.

PretLea · 31/08/2023 10:48

Thanks @Noodle421 I do love the subtle high neck on it and seems a good layering option for autumn. I quite like the raw edge look, but hopefully these won’t fray! Are you referring to the heat gen tops at Uniqlo? I worry about the fibres making me a bit sweaty. I don’t own any thermal layers, which maybe explains why I was so cold last winter 🙃

@Snowyowl78 this is helpful for choosing my size, thanks. I might try the biggest of the two I had in mind and see how it fits - I generally find tight fitting tops uncomfortable.

ScottishMouse · 31/08/2023 10:51

I have been having a really rubbish time lately, and this week has been awful. A lot of stress coming from a few different things all piling on top of one another (health concerns, family issues, blah blah blah). I had to drag myself out of my bed this morning to get a child to school. Threw on the check shirt dress I picked up on the Circle rail last week, didn’t even look in the mirror. And a lovely mum at the school gate (a much younger than me and very stylish mum, I should add) told me I looked fabulous. I could have kissed her (but that would have been weird, I hardly know her!).
Thankfully not working today, and wondering if a Toast trying on trip is in order for a bit of self-care. New drop things I’m interested in are:
Boat neck cotton gingham dress
Pintuck cotton gingham top
Ruffle collar slubby check shirt in ink
Anja shirt in cinnamon
Brushed cotton linen herringbone trousers in navy
Buttoned alpaca blend knitted tank
Floral hand woven scarf in painter blue
And that is after narrowing it down from an even longer list!

Does anyone have the brushed cotton line. Herringbone trousers from last season? How does the fabric wash & wear? I’m worried it might look shabby quite quickly.

Noodle421 · 31/08/2023 11:11

@PretLea yes, the heat gen tops many people seem to rave about. My friend showed me hers and I thought it looked very clingy which I’d find maddening but she said it was very comfortable. I also tried the M&S version which my sister wears all year round ( she lives in Scotland). I tried it but ended up giving it away because I felt too sweaty and enclosed in it ( perhaps I should’ve bought the larger size to be fair ). In summary, I believe the Toast Tencel top adds warmth but is probably not as warm as other alternatives but it also looks stylish with a lovely neckline, is comfortable to wear and is very versatile.

Saurus72 · 31/08/2023 11:12

I have the herringbone cotton/linen trousers @ScottishMouse I wear mine just for wfh and I wash them after each wear because they do stretch out around the bum and don’t look great after that. They look fine so far - I’ve worn/washed them around 10 times I would say.

Sorry to hear you’re feeling rubbish, hope things pick up.

Noodle421 · 31/08/2023 11:15

@ScottishMouse sorry to hear you are having a rubbish time. So many ups and downs in life and this thread provides such great distraction. How lovely to get such a fabulous and heart felt compliment. I really think I would have kissed her I really do but then I’m quite impulsive and it can get me into trouble 😂

Saurus72 · 31/08/2023 11:16

@PretLea I thought the Uniqlo heat gen tops might work for layering but the fabric is not good, I couldn’t buy them.

I wear these from Cos - a fine merino wool layer, works well under jumpers. I also wear them for yoga in cooler weather, non-sweaty and move with you.

I have the wool tencel tops in red navy and d green ( all bought in sales over the years ) and they are really good.. I don't find them at all itchy and they do wash ans wear well.. At first was concerned about the raw edges but mine haven't frayed .. last year's dark green version ( which I had to re buy because I had seemed to have lost mine) was still in old sizes and I have L because I didnt want them too fitted. I'm definitely buying the new pea one but looks like it is new sizes so ill probably have to have XL 🙄. So id recommend sizing up

ScottishMouse · 31/08/2023 11:23

Thanks @Noodle421 and @Saurus72.

The bagging at the bum is one of my pet peeves with all my Toast trousers @Saurus72 so these may not be a good option. I am finding it more and more difficult to find trousers to fit me as my shape changes with perimenopause. Maybe I need to give up altogether and wear dresses more. I’ve been doing this the last couple of months and loving the freedom around the waist 😀

ScottishMouse · 31/08/2023 11:30

I also like the wool cotton herringbone trousers with the wider shape but I can’t bring myself to pay that much for a pair of plain navy trousers!

Saurus72 · 31/08/2023 11:33

Yes and also they’re dry clean only. Eye wateringly expensive!

Laska2Meryls · 31/08/2023 12:01

Its mis here today, rainy and feels a chill in the air .. I am wearing Suki trousers and the rust loop back sweat from a few year ago over a Toast bamboo vest ..

I feel that about the navy loop back ones .. definitely would like them but cant justify £120 on something that tbh I wouldn't wear outside.. Maybe in the sale

Laska2Meryls · 31/08/2023 12:10

I also like the swingy cord jacket in green and the cord shirt also in green..
However the men's version of the green cord Arlo jacket looks good to me also , I especially like the length and pockets . I think thay have a men's section in Notting Hill store.. so if I make it up there next week I may try it on ! Being a bit wide of shoulder I may possibly get away with it ..

TerrierOrTerror · 31/08/2023 12:13

I live in the Uniqlo Heat Tech/Gen tops from late October onwards as a layering item - I personally don't find then overly sweaty (the M&S ones are not great) but equally they aren't attractive so as a visible layer I wouldn't use them.

dudsville · 31/08/2023 12:27

@ScottishMouse , sorry you've beenhaving a rough time. How wonderfully timed that comment was at the school gate! Hope your toast trip boosts your spirits, the floral handwoven scarves are so pretty. I've decided I'm not a dainty scarf person but i do like those very much!

It's raining here today. I got out for my daily post op walk before it started. I was in my aging all white adidas, space check trousers, a long sleeved striped tee, and cord jacket. There was a pleasing bit of clash. The parchement trousers are due to be delivered tomorrow.

ScottishMouse · 31/08/2023 12:33

Have just had a trying on session and can report that there are so many fabulous things in the new drop.
Thankfully, most of the things on my list did not work on me for one reason or another. Will add notes below on what I can remember in case anyone is interested. I did buy the alpaca mix buttoned tank. Very pricey for what it is, but I think it will go with so many things. It is fluffy and neat in size and looked great over my shirt dress.

  • New denim pinafore with the scoop round neck - very long, longer than other pinafores I have, and quite straight until near the bottom where it becomes more a-line. An odd shape on me.
  • Cotton linen herringbone trousers - a bit meh. I think last seasons colours probably made them look a little more interesting but the navy just made them look a bit drab. size wise, the small was quite neat everywhere on me and I was usually xs in Toast trousers before the sizing changed.
  • Gingham cotton boatneck dress - fabulous, but a little tight on my upper arms (a constant issue for me). Medium was a good size for me, I’m a 12 maybe a 10 sometimes.
  • Gingham pintuck shirt - this is very wide and a-line. It didn’t work for me at all. Without the tie it was too wide, with the tie it ballooned a bit over the bust and made me look huge. The sleeves are very wide too which didn’t help. I tried a medium.
  • Anja shirt in cinnamon - the colour was awful on me even though I loved it. Size wise, I tried a 12 and it was too big, so this sizing doesn’t seem to have changed.
  • Ruffle collar shirt in ink check - very thin fabric, more of a summer shirt. Sleeves were too long and too billowy for me, and the collar was a bit odd - it doesn’t meet in the middle and it sort of looked unfinished. I tried a 12 and it was quite big.
The indigo swingy shaped jacket looks beautiful. As do many of the scarves. I particularly liked the orange fluffy one. If there’s anything else in particular anyone wants to know about, I had a good look around.
ScottishMouse · 31/08/2023 12:35

Thanks @dudsville . I quite like a dainty scarf, but one that is at least partly wool rather than the cotton or silk ones. I have a couple of those that I bought last year or the year before and I just don’t wear them that much.
I only saw the new one in the navy and I prefer the other colour. But the navy was nicer in real life than it looks one the screen, the colours really pop.

dudsville · 31/08/2023 12:45

That sounds like a very nice trip out @ScottishMouse . I'm looking at that alpaca tank now that you mention it, as worn over dresses sounds like a great idea!

I clicked on your link and nearly purchased a bunch of those COS tops @Saurus72, they look like such great value, however, I have resumed a phase of hot flushes and think I will be fine with my cotton long sleeved tees for layering for now!

lordloveadog · 31/08/2023 12:53

@ScottishMouse sorry you e been having such a time.

Thanks for the report. Did you see that blanket coat?

Snowyowl78 · 31/08/2023 13:06

Kindred gift alert!!!

PretLea · 31/08/2023 13:12

Thanks @Saurus72 for the COS top suggestion. I just can’t get myself to actively purchase anything for the depths of winter yet, but I’ve noted it for when the time comes.

@ScottishMouse I’m sorry about the tough time you’re having. I did want to ask about the Anja shirt if you don’t mind. The cinnamon colour - is it closer to orange or a rust colour?

ScottishMouse · 31/08/2023 13:19

@lordloveadog i did see the blanket coat. I kind of walked straight past it though. I don’t think it looked at nice in person, definitely not worth what they are charging. But that was just my impression from a fleeting glance, sorry.

@Pretlea, the cinnamon Anja is more rust than orange. Overall, I would say a little duller than it looks on my screen. Lovely, wish it had suited me.

ScottishMouse · 31/08/2023 13:20

Did you get an email @Snowyowl78 ? I didn’t get one. What might it be, any guesses? Too early for Christmas decorations surely.
