"Nothing" clothing is fine. Not every outfit for every occasion has to be carefully styled, artistic self-expression. And normcore is a thing anyway.

DuchessOfSausage · 19/08/2023 14:52

nothing article of clothing is a strange way of saying it, but I agree that they are completely unremarkable. I thought that was the point of them - they don't look smart or too casual, don't look old-fashioned or fashionable.

DuchessOfSausage · 19/08/2023 11:20

@NatashaDancing , a 'buff' is a tube of fabric that you can wear in various ways. Multifunctional tubulars and Snoods (buff.com)

Thanks - hardly the acme of male sartorial elegance.

DuchessOfSausage · 19/08/2023 15:00

No. The person who owns one mentioned in a pp didn't sound like someone sartorially elegant either.

He'd look better without it

pictoosh · 19/08/2023 15:26

That's a good example. Even Brad Pitt looks boring in a polo shirt. If he can't style it out, what hope does your average Joe have?

He can wear what he wants for me to be honest.

But they aren't boring to some people. Would you prefer a band t-shirt?

AppleTurnover1000Degrees · 19/08/2023 15:32

Alright then you may have a point.

Bright psychedelic-patterned spandex leggings - Jamie Lee Curtis meets Janis Joplin.
3-quarter sleeves on jumpers or cardigans - they shorten limbs and only warm half your arm. Why?
High-waisted jeans - it's hard to find normal waisted jeans nowadays. As a petite person, high-waisted jeans start under my boobs. I look like a denim-clad clown.
Ripped jeans - why the high price tag on clothes meant to look damaged?
Clunky boots - only suit punks and soldiers

DuchessOfSausage · 19/08/2023 16:37

Grin @AppleTurnover1000Degrees . Thank you.

LolaSmiles · 19/08/2023 16:58

The notion that 'smart' and 'smart casual' = trustworthiness, respectability and a reliable measure of a person's values is facile in the extreme...but we still cling to it don't we?
I've not come across smart casual as a measure of trustworthiness.

But I do find myself thinking some people present themselves quite scruffy, especially post-lockdowns.

AppleTurnover1000Degrees · 19/08/2023 17:01

@pictoosh I'm sat in our local and there are a lot of polo shirts here, you would hate it.

AppleTurnover1000Degrees · 19/08/2023 17:03

My DH has a baby pink t-sirt on.

MidnightMeltdown · 19/08/2023 17:10

High waisted jeans.

Anyone who isn't a size 8 with a flat stomach ends up with a belly like Father Christmas

Nothing wrong with a baby pink t-shirt.

I agree 👍

SocksAndTheCity · 19/08/2023 17:37

I hate polo shirts and the weird fabric they're made out of makes me shudder. If I could I would burn them all.

I do like knee length skirts and dresses (and loathe midi anything 😁).

anothergrievingsister · 19/08/2023 17:44

@MidnightMeltdown I am size 8-10 with a moderate belly. Many midrise jeans and trousers emphasise it. High rise that aren’t too tight are much more flattering.

I don’t understand it either

itsnotmeitsu · 19/08/2023 18:07

@MidnightMeltdown - "High waisted jeans.

Does that mean everyone else outside of the 'size 8 with a flat stomach' shouldn't be wearing jeans? If you're a bit (or a lot) overweight your belly will be hanging over low-rise and mid-rise jeans, rather than being contained inside the jeans. Anyway, Father Christmas has plenty of fans.

Highdaysandholidays1 · 19/08/2023 19:50

I have to say that looking at the second pic of Brad, I'm not focused on his fashion sense at all.

Nice quality polo shirts are usually cotton, that's why I like them, my husband used to wear them slightly baggy in navy and that was one of the least offensive things he wore (faded band t-shirts from 20 years prior much much worse).

Brad Pitt rocking the polo shirt at Wimbledon recently 👌

Much prefer that collar and tie guy !

tough choice 🤔 would be hard to say no to either of them 🤪

The half zip. Just why?

This style of jumper really suits me. I’m big chested so any crew neck jumpers emphasises them, same with a polo neck and a hoodie. I can wear a v neck but the half zip seems to suit me better
