The youngsters wear crocs like sliders - with pulled up ankle socks.

It's not a look I could or wish to carry off 😁.

GettingStuffed · 18/08/2023 19:41

Until yesterday wide leg trousers wouldn't have been on my list, but I managed to trip over one leg and I felt grazing my palm and my knee so I'm in pain today as the knee has been scabbing and reopening the wound

DuchessOfSausage · 18/08/2023 19:51

@GettingStuffed , I used to like wearing midi skirts in the 1990s, and tripping going upstairs was always a risk. I only wore wide palazzo-style trousers the once.

starfish4517 · 18/08/2023 20:42

Cropped trousers! I'm short and overweight and they make me look even shorter and larger as well as frumpy. Just why can't I find proper length trousers anywhere Confused

starfish4517 · 18/08/2023 20:44

Oh and midi dresses 😓 which make me look a 20 year older matron!

pictoosh · 18/08/2023 21:00

Oh yes bog off midi dresses...they're awful. I am 5ft 3 with short legs...they do not flatter me at ALL.

Actually, let's see a return of the just above the knee dress. That's perfect for me. Everything is is mini, midi or maxi and none of those really work well for my short leg, long back proportions.

pictoosh · 18/08/2023 21:03

I don't mind a maxi to look at, they quite suit me...but I don't like them because you can't dance, climb, straddle a chair, sit on the floor, run up the stairs comfortably in them. Or at least I can't.

I recently came across a pic of me from around 2003. Bright red hair, teal corduroy jacket and palazzo-style grey trousers. I look like a clown.

That's my worst length. Even a mini skirt is better on me than that.

I guess it really is impossible to please everyone! Poor fashion designers. I think the rise of fast fashion has a lot to answer for. Even if it didn't destroy the planet and have a terrible human rights record, it's also just sent fit through the toilet. Everyone expects to pick up a size X now and have it fit, but how is that possible when it's mass produced for zillions of people?

reelcat · 18/08/2023 23:04

Crocs
Socks/sliders combo
Bum bags especially worn over the shoulder

I think it suits most men ? 🤷‍♀️ like realistically what do men have in the summer to wear that is smart casual ? 🤔

My DH always looks snappy and he wears a quality T shirt, usually dark, no stupid logos but maybe a grown up graphic print ( no camper vans or surf boards) and coloured jeans or work shorts/ trousers . Good footwear like boots, sporty walking shoes or flip flops, no trainers. Good watch, buff, cap.
Polo shirts and short sleeved shirts are bit middle aged, old school.

in your opinion. my husband doesn't look old school nor middle age when he wears plus for office work cant wear most of what you described. the same in my office men might get away with it on a Friday but most certainly not during the week.

No they aren't. My teenager and his mates look very good in designer polo shirts.

I mentioned golf which my DH plays but my teenage lad doesn't. They both wear polo shirts.

Just my opinion but no man looks "snappy" in a t- shirt, no matter what the quality.

Not sure what "buff" and "cap" are referring to (flat? baseball?) and I'd never notice what type of watch anyone was wearing.

In warm weather my husband wears long sleeved, loose fitting linen shirts and rolls the sleeves up.

We need to see Stubbles regularly, so cute.

Stubbles has been deleted? Why?

How does a logo on a shirt make it any better than others without one or a different one? It's the same type of shirt in the end.

Well it doesn't but the material is going to better than primark

Just this evening I saw two young men on TV wearing polo shirts, neither looked old school nor middle aged.

Marchintospring · 19/08/2023 11:09

Well yes. That’s because I think polo shirts are. Mods, Lacoste/ Perry , are old school , golfers are middle aged. Clearly I’m not the only one that thinks this.

You think differently and that’s ok. Which is why I put “ok”. You are allowed a different opinion.

Marchintospring · 19/08/2023 11:11

Young people always look young though.

DuchessOfSausage · 19/08/2023 11:20

@NatashaDancing , a 'buff' is a tube of fabric that you can wear in various ways. Multifunctional tubulars and Snoods (buff.com)
