I am loving vinted

Hey everyone,

What's everyone's thoughts on vinted? I am absolutely loving it so far.

The clothes I've ordered are practically brand new, amazing condition and a fraction of the price.

It seems especially good for women's and children's clothes and honestly I'm a bit obsessed and need to stop buying really but I'm nearly finished for our holiday and it's mostly been from vinted!

I also feel like I'm saving the earth GrinGrin I know I'm not really but I'm really surprised about how good it is!

For items that are second hand why does nobody iron them?

I think it's because patt of the appeal of Vinted is that the upload process is so quick - people pull it out of the wardrobe, take a few pictures and post it. You definitely don't get a luxurious customer experience! That's why it's so important to zoom in on details - I think care labels tend to show wear/ laundering first.

VanCleefArpels · 12/08/2023 09:48

reselling ensures at the very least the delay in an item ending up in landfill and provides the seller with a bit of pocket money. That’s good enough for me.

SophieTheWonderCat · 12/08/2023 09:52

I have looked at Vinted several times and I don't get the love for it. Everything seems really cheap or totally overpriced eg the better labels. Maybe it is the format that overwhelms me - so many things come up on a page say as opposed to e Bay. I was speaking to someone the other day who had some amazing baby item bargains. Actually though I am a seller as opposed to a buyer 99.9% of the time. My young SD uses it so guess different strokes etc.

Floisme · 12/08/2023 09:57

I'm definitely keeping an eye on it and if my dress agency lady retires and the local charity shops go downhill then I'll probably give it a try. But while I'm sure there are lovely things to be had, there are equal numbers of shockers and piss takers out there, and I already make lots of mistakes in charity shops when I can see the condition and try it on.

The addictive nature is another turn off for me. I think it's a good thing that I have to make the effort to leave the house and walk to my dress agency.

I see lots of things in charity shops with tags on that have clearly been worn so that filter doesn't impress me.

And don't get me started on how crumpled everything is.

Its brilliant.. I've bought soooo much past 2 weeks. My best purchases so far are a brand new pair of Nike trainers for my daughter for £6, a pair of beautyworks straighteners for £20 and a brand new Michael Kors winter coat for little one for £7!!!

VanCleefArpels · 12/08/2023 10:33

I’ve just posted on your thread : the buyer’s protection cover does what it says on the tin. You should always pay it

BreadInCaptivity · 12/08/2023 14:41

What's the point of favourites?

Nothingbuttheglory · 12/08/2023 14:45

Makes it easier to find things you like if you might want to bid on them later. And the sellers can then message you with a discount.

For comparison purposes and to easily find them later

I think buying on Vinted works best if you set yourself 'rules'. After a few buying mistakes (sizing, condition) mine are:

  • max spend 1/3rd RRP
  • only brands where I know my size
  • only new with or without tags, unless I'm directly replacing something I absolutely love so am willing to risk the seller's interpretation of 'very good' condition

I do resell what doesn't fit, but it's a bit of a hassle when you're not getting any more than your money back (if you're lucky).

Don't forget you're paying postage AND that buyer protection fee, so a £3 bargain can end up costing £8 in the end.

Spudlet · 12/08/2023 14:51

Love it. My best bargain was a Bam sweatshirt for £4. Looks brand new, lovely quality. They cost £70-ish quid new! I tend to stick to brands I know so I know my size. My only small gripe is that there’s no way to search for trousers by leg length or a space for the sellers to add that info and many don’t think to -
the tall (and probably also the short) amongst us would very much value that information. At the moment I have to hope the seller either thought to add it, or took a picture of the label showing the length.

Sooze2023 · 12/08/2023 14:59

Amazing! I rarely buy new or different things. I use it to re-buy things I have previously bought in shops that are no.longer available with great success!

Thank you.

I was wondering if it notifies you if a seller reduces the price.

Yes it does - and you can always make an offer yourself

Agree re measurements - some do give this info but many don’t give any info at all. However I find most are quite responsive if you ask eg the inside leg measurement for something

You can always ask the seller re measurements, I have a few times.

Motorina · 12/08/2023 17:50

I routinely ask sellers for measurements, particularly for things like trousers when the waist really matters. Maybe half reply? The others I don't buy from.

Einevinefine · 12/08/2023 17:55

I need to get started on it. I have six pairs of Vagabond boots, four pairs in box but two never worn without box. (Don’t ask about so many pairs, I know I only have one pair of feet and Dds didn’t want them. So, do boots sell without box?

Yes, you would probably need to mark as 'new without tags' unless it has other tags. Try and send in a sturdy shoebox if you can

Pigtailsandall · 12/08/2023 18:45

I've sold shoes as new with tags when they've had actual tags still on but no box. I've just specified that there's no box as some people really want them!

PlumPeony · 12/08/2023 19:10

I'm also loving vinted! I've bought few things BNWT and saved over 50%. But they were very specific items, I do struggle when searching for example black evening dress. Because some people don't seem to know what is black, or what is a dress 😂

I've also sold lots of my clothes, shoes, bags. I don't bother selling anything under £5, so any items that don't get sold I'll put to charity boxes. It gets quite addictive.

AndrewGarfieldsLaptop · 12/08/2023 21:02

All my children's clothes come from there. My little girl is only 4 months so it's perfect. Been buying loads of bonds leggings.

NewUserNameSaved · 13/08/2023 09:38

I had another look yesterday using the filters suggested. Even going by brands it doesn’t help because some of the items photographed were whilst the owner was wearing them and they weren’t the same size 10 I am. Brands have so little consistency these days.
There was a pair of Levi’s I fancied but, even though they were listed as size 10, the label said W32. It just all seems too much hard work and too much scrolling to even find anything tbh.

The brands and sizing issue would be the same if ordering direct from the retailer though. You would need to know your Levi's size and then just look for that.

I think with Vinted you need to know what brands, sizes, product etc that you are looking for. If you are browsing aimlessly it can be hard work.
