Can anyone give advice as to the best way forward.

Seller sold a small football related bundle to me. I pay full price but not the extra £1.10 protection as the goods were £10 full price, didn’t seem worth it. Of course the bundle comes with a key element missing 🤦🏻‍♀️

Seller tells me in the chat they didn’t put it in. Apparently in the end it didn’t match so left it out. Refuses to send it on or an equivalent which I’ve said I’d accept. So I’m now being hit with the postage to return. I have discussed with the seller as instructed to do so in the T&Cs. Seller says doesn’t care if I write a poor review, they aren’t paying return postage.

Is that it now? I’m either out of pocket by accepting it or out of pocket by returning it?

This is where eBay would come in handy, as they almost always protect buyers. Can't advise as I'm quite new to vinted myself.

RudsyFarmer · 12/08/2023 10:29

I’m new to it too. I knew they wasn’t any protection if it didn’t fit or I changed my mind but i had no idea that if the seller just decided to stuff you there wax also no recompense!!!

Typos galore. You get my point though 🤣

You have brought this on yourself for the sake of the £1.10 buyers protection cover. If you had this then Vinted would have refunded you and you wouldn’t have to return the items you did receive. Lesson learned!

RudsyFarmer · 12/08/2023 10:32

Pmsl. I love that this is my fault 🤣. Such a classic Mumsnet post.

I didn't know you could opt out of the buyer protection. Sadly, it is because you did that you're going to be out of pocket.

I'd keep the stuff, write a poor review and either resell or keep it. Lesson learned.

Well unless someone had a gun to your head when you opted out of the protection then it WAS your decision that results in the outcome you describe 🤷🏻‍♀️

RudsyFarmer · 12/08/2023 11:06

I don’t remember opting out of anything so I will need to have a look the next time I risk buying something. It just tickles me that I’ve been scammed and it’s my fault. You must be one of my kids to come to that conclusion 🤣

In your OP you state that you didn’t pay the £1.10 as it “wasn’t worth it” which indicates a positive choice, one which you are now regretting. However, on the upside you have a bundle of stuff you paid £10 for which no doubt would have set you back a lot more if you bought brand new

RudsyFarmer · 12/08/2023 11:28

I did write that but I think I was trying to not drip feed and explain that it hadn’t happened for ease of reply.

I found out about the buyer protection when trying to deal with this issue. It must have been an option as I was checking out but I didn’t click it as opposed to choosing not to click it.

Hindsight is obviously 50/50 and when the items are low value it doesn’t make sense to add an extra tax. However I didn’t realise the seller could in essence send dirt in a bag and there was no recompense without paying the buyer tax. Hats certainly a lesson learned.

OP posts:
RudsyFarmer · 12/08/2023 11:29

And sadly the items are not worth the money I paid as o don’t have the full set. So it’s lose lose.

VanCleefArpels · 12/08/2023 11:47

It’s called buyer “protection” and you have discovered why. Better luck next time

Thank you

I didn't realise you could opt out of buyers protection but this is why you've lost out
I always add the cost of it and postage to what it would cost to see if it's worth it( to me)
If the seller disagrees there's nothing you can do except leave a review

OooohAhhhh · 12/08/2023 13:12

They are a shitty seller, and make sure your feedback reflects that. It's up to you if you don't want the non matching item, they should have included it as it was advertised in the listing.
Unfortunately it's twats like this that give selling platforms a bad name, they have your money & now aren't interested.
Also I don't know why they aren't bothered about receiving a shitty review, business depends on reviews. People just won't buy from them if they have neg feedback, good!

anon2022anon · 15/08/2023 07:37

As far as I'm aware (and I use Vinted A LOT!) you can't opt out of buyer protection. But even if you could, it would make absolutely no difference, as the buyer protection is absolutely rubbish, and the buyer still has to cover return postage in the situation you describe. The cost of a shipping label is deducted from your refund of item + original shipping. It's the biggest negative side to Vinted.

You also can't leave feedback, good or bad, after returning the item.

RudsyFarmer · 15/08/2023 10:38

I didn’t know there were more replies, sorry for disappearing.

I haven’t purchased anything else yet but I’ve been trying to navigate it better in preparation. I’ve just offered on an item. Is buyer protection only available if you pay the price the seller is requesting? If that’s the case I can see why I didn’t have any as most items I’m buying are as a result of making offers.

That’s what I thought! I think eBay have positioned themselves as a buyer friendly platform and Vinted as seller friendly. Which is useful to know.

Well now I’m thoroughly confused!!!! I’ve just completed an order I offered a lower price on. Seller accepted. I go through the order and buyer protection has automatically been added with no option to deselect it. So I officially have no idea how this works and am wondering if I had buyer protection all along.

I need to go and look at that other order that went wrong.

And I’ve found the receipt and yes I paid the fee. So what bloody protection was this meant to afford me then? Because so far I am out of pocket.

When acknowledging receipt of the item you get the opportunity to click on “I’m not happy” which kicks off the investigation into what’s wrong. If you click on “Everything’s fine” then there’s no opportunity to complain

All of that’s in process but I have no right to get my postage returned to me and that’s my beef. Why am I out of pocket for ding precisely zero wrong?

OP posts:
anon2022anon · 15/08/2023 17:37

@RudsyFarmer it is shit, but unfortunately that is completely how Vinted is- you just need to decide whether the lower prices are worth the potential issues. The only time I've seen Vinted say refund without having to return the item is when it's been insufficient packaging for the item. Every other time it depends on having a decent seller who offers to send you the cost of the return via PayPal.

VanCleefArpels · 15/08/2023 20:43

Why don’t you sell the other items in the bundle to recoup the postage fee?

RudsyFarmer · 15/08/2023 21:12

You mean why didn’t I just accept the bundle as it was and try and resell it? To be honest I didn’t know I would be out of pocket by sending it back.

Plus the two items were unlikely to make enough money to recoup the money. It was the three items together that made it worth more.
