I am loving vinted

Hey everyone,

What's everyone's thoughts on vinted? I am absolutely loving it so far.

The clothes I've ordered are practically brand new, amazing condition and a fraction of the price.

It seems especially good for women's and children's clothes and honestly I'm a bit obsessed and need to stop buying really but I'm nearly finished for our holiday and it's mostly been from vinted!

I also feel like I'm saving the earth GrinGrin I know I'm not really but I'm really surprised about how good it is!

Meh.. I don’t know. I haven’t sold but I have bought and with the postage costs and the fee paid to Vinted every time it’s not actually cheap compared to a charity shop which might have a few different things that work for you and you have been able to try on so not mistakes.

Also I don’t like how the risk is completely on you if sellers take the piss despite all the protection fees- I had items arrive with stains that the selller just wouldn’t accept were there and just had to lump it.

I guess part of it as a pp said below of finding sellers with the same style as you and that sell quality items.

@BreadInCaptivity search for postage bags, there are loads in all different sizes. They always have an offer on one brand so the one I used may not be the cheapest now

Thank you

Awittyfool · 12/08/2023 01:05

I’ve just bought the replacement boots I wanted for half the price ebay sellers wanted.
However generally I find ebay has more stuff.

None of my clothes seem to sell on Vinted but if I list them on eBay they do so giving up selling there.

You are clearly not using filters properly!

I always filter for BNWT, and for brands where I know my size, then colour if I know what I’m looking for

I agree with Roystonv. I've* *applied filters and still been presented with stuff that's horrid, old fashioned, poorly presented and crumpled. And often I'm not convinced is genuinely the brand I searched for.

NewUserNameSaved · 12/08/2023 07:44

I’m honestly not getting the love.
What do you all search for? I’ve just had a quick look and people are selling Shein clothes on there really expensively. Other stuff looks tatty/faded/scrunched up. I wouldn’t even look at it in a charity shop!

Can anyone tell me their secret for for searches to enter to find decent bargains?

magicalkitty · 12/08/2023 07:53

It is good as you can find some bargains but I only buy things with tags myself.

I also weigh up how much it costs once you add the delivery and buyers fee, sometimes you may as well just buy new from the shop. Some sellers try and sell things at the same price or only a couple of pounds less than they paid for it new!

RunnyPaint · 12/08/2023 07:54

I have had some gems (the latest being very good condition leather Converse for £10 including fees and delivery) and some duff items (possibly bought on a whim while tipsy), and have sold a few items recently. It takes a fair bit of patience and guesswork regarding how the sellers describe their items, but I enjoy it and it stops me buying new while satisfying my shopping habit from the comfort of home.

I search 'new with tags' condition, and then filter to the brands/sizes I want.

Ohhhh it sounds like I'm not using filters....

I'm a bit obsessed with hellbunny dresses so I love it for that.

I've favourited some items, and One woman keeps sending me lower and lower offers. Then another messaged me asking was I interested in buying the item I had favourited. I found that a bit much tbh.

I would love to try selling but just get overwhelmed.

Well as an example I have a favourite style of trouser from H&M but not in black so I searched under “tailored trousers” filtered for black, H&M and BNWT and found (yes you do have to scroll a lot of the wrong style) the one I wanted for £3 ☺️.

it’s always worth favouriting things before buying as you will often get offers like this. And you can make an offer - worth seeing how long the item has been listed, if it’s been up for weeks the seller more likely to want to get rid! I don’t appreciate the “are you interested in buying” messages though, seems a bit pushy

NatashaDancing · 12/08/2023 09:01

I'm suspicious of "brand new with tags". Why? If you bought something online you can get a refund. Are there really so many people buying new items in shops and never wearing them?

Are they (a) people buying up and reselling surplus stock which retailers sent to charity shops? Or (b) actually nicked from shops or warehouses?

NatashaDancing · 12/08/2023 09:10

This for example
Klements silk dress

I've bought from Klements. They have excellent customer service. Their dresses are around £300. If you bought that and didn't like why not return it for a full refund. Are there really people spending that amount of money on a dress and sticking it in a wardrobe and never wearing it?

I have loads of things I have bought and not worn yet. I leave the tags on until I wear them incase I change my mind and sell it on. If its outside of the return period or the cost to return it is too great (I have to travel to do that) I might just pass it on, charity shop it or sell it. A lot of people do the same. DH detags straight away then if he changes his mind he can't return and doesn't make as much reselling as the tags are removed.

Nothingbuttheglory · 12/08/2023 09:22

Obviously what brands are desirable varies from person to person. I find though that searching by material - specify silk, alpaca, cashmere, merino - cuts out a lot of the crap. And if you do search by brand you won't see the Shein junk that clogs it up otherwise.

I just keep adding filters until the number to scroll through gets below 100.

Like with charity shops, the real gem bargains do take a bit of finding. But you can skim much faster on Vinted, without getting out of bed. Main thing though is to check seller feedback and that the photos really do show you the whole item - zoom in!

Nothingbuttheglory · 12/08/2023 09:25

The culture on Vinted is different to eBay - haggling is totally the way to go. So if you want to sell something for a fiver, list it for 7 because people will ask for a discount. Similarly, I always make an offer 10-20% off if I want to buy something. Sometimes it's accepted, sometimes not, but it's not personal and nothing to get upset about.

I work in a charity shop - you wouldn’t believe the amount of stuff people donate with tags on! I think it’s stuff people buy on impulse in sales, stuff they forget or can’t be arsed to return, stuff bought in anticipation of weight loss, stuff bought that’s now too big due to weight loss….all sorts of reasons!

Sorry but that just seems bonkers to me. I've been told off on here for buying too much but I've never bought anything which I don't wear.

Also many of the more upmarket brands don't use those tags secured by a bit of plastic, which if you break you couldn't reattach. The brand I linked to, Klements, ties their tags on. They could easily be untied and tied back on.

VanCleefArpels · 12/08/2023 09:28

I would add that one of the reasons I choose BNWT is to ensure it hasn’t been laundered and therefore not shrunk or bobbled - it’s the ultimate quality filter

To me that's just weird. I wear everything I buy as soon as I buy it. I buy a lot, but I never buy anything I'm not sure I'll love.

Sorry but I don't care what you think. I just answered the question. I don't care what strangers in think or if they "tell me off" as I'm an adult. You do you.

Of course, but I don't like the sort of "everything is disposable" mentality. I'm not sure reselling it on alters the element of everything is disposable.

For items that are second hand why does nobody iron them?
