I am loving vinted

Hey everyone,

What's everyone's thoughts on vinted? I am absolutely loving it so far.

The clothes I've ordered are practically brand new, amazing condition and a fraction of the price.

It seems especially good for women's and children's clothes and honestly I'm a bit obsessed and need to stop buying really but I'm nearly finished for our holiday and it's mostly been from vinted!

I also feel like I'm saving the earth GrinGrin I know I'm not really but I'm really surprised about how good it is!

Love it. Brand new leather knee boots for 20. Perfect condition cashmere jumper for 30.

Obviously some misses with sizing but just sell on then.

I am very careful to inspect photos though, always zoom in looking for imperfections, never buy shoes without seeing a sharp picture of the soles. Some people have a very different idea of "very good condition" to me.

You do see some interesting pricing strategies. I believe the rule of thumb for second hand is half the RRP, and then subtract further for wear. Sometimes people want to sell something for 55 that they bought for 60 - no chance mate.

I do like seeing things coming back from the dead, almost - when you Google the item to check out the brand or whatever and its actually 20 years old, still with the tags on...

I have bought and sold quite a lot on Vinted. I haven't had many amazing bargains but I'm trying to be more selective about what I buy these days. I do get a bit frustrated when I list an expensive item for £20 (dress that cost £150 and was worn once) and get people asking if I will sell it for £5.

If things don't sell after a few months then I tend to donate them to a charity shop or take them down and relist them a few months later if they are very expensive items.

Some people do list things for very high starting prices but I find they tend to hang around for ages unsold.

I've had some really nice things from Vinted but sent 10 days ago for a jumper for husband which is still 'in transit'. What's the likelihood of it turning up now? Sender is using In Post Locker.

Nothingbuttheglory · 11/08/2023 16:02

I've had minor issues with InPost but things have always turned up eventually.

Roystonv · 11/08/2023 16:07

Everything I have looked at has been horrid, old fashioned, poorly presented and crumpled. Not willing to risk my money when I have no clear idea of what I am buying.

You are clearly not using filters properly!

I always filter for BNWT, and for brands where I know my size, then colour if I know what I’m looking for

You can report via the app that you gave t received the item and they will look into it - you may get your money back

I have finally won my challenge against a permanent ban from Vinted. Really bizarre experience.

Two reasons given - selling RL polo shirts they deemed were fake and apparently having duplicate accounts.

I was sufficiently pissed off to miraculously find the receipts from Macy's in the US in 2015 and took every photo they wanted just to prove a point. They confirmed they're genuine and they'd made a mistake but I still couldn't list them for 'internal reasons they couldn't share'. I wouldn't mind but half the RL items on Vinted are clearly fake.

Apparently they couldn't deal with both issues on one ticket so I go again on the duplicate account part of the ban. They ask for the user names, I can only give the one I know of and ask them for the second one that I must have created and forgotten about. So it goes back and forth until they say they're sorry but they'd made a mistake and I don't have a duplicate account either.

So I was permanently banned for two reasons that proved to be total bollocks. They didn't even ask for proof of the two supposedly fake polos before the ban. I've sold about a thousand items on eBay with a 100% rating and Vinted seems an odd experience in comparison.

Love it.

I really like finding a good seller who have clearly similar taste to myself (or did have) and sweeping up a bundle.

I've got one or two bits I'll re-list, but for the price of postage I got to try a few things I'd otherwise have been too afraid to buy (I am a bit of a safe dresser.)

BreadInCaptivity · 11/08/2023 17:48

Well based on this thread I've signed up and listed about 25% of my old corporate wardrobe (career change) to see how I get on.

Struggling to fathom why listing things for £5
Is worth it though once you've boxed it up (unless you have access to free boxes).

Theimpossiblegirl · 11/08/2023 17:58

Vinted encourages reusing packaging. I don't buy any, I'll use what I can find around the house. Carrier bag, black bag, wrapped in tissue first.

I recycle packaging I don't buy boxes. There's lots drop off points near me and no sellers fees, the fivers add up!

BreadInCaptivity · 11/08/2023 18:06

Thank you.

I've got loads of tissue paper and a few boxes but (face palm) I haven't considered using the boxes from DH's (hobby based) Amazon buys.

Heatherbell1978 · 11/08/2023 18:09

I started using it about a year ago and I'm now at the point I buy all the kids stuff from it and sell a lot as well. I now wish this had been around (and I was as addicted) when DC were tiny. They're 6 and 8 and I can honestly say I must have spend £1000s over the years on clothes as I do like nicer brands for the kids - which I now buy for a fraction of the price!!

Pigtailsandall · 11/08/2023 21:04

I love selling on Vinted, not so much buying. I find the filters aren't sufficient enough for targeted searches, and anything in the brands I like are still quite pricey.

But since starting to sell in early 2023 I've made about £700 and it's been totally hassle-free. Like pp said, the fivers add up. I only use Yodel and Evri because they are right by my supermarket so I go past them twice weekly anyway - so posting a package is no hassle.

Porridgeislife · 11/08/2023 21:09

I love Vinted. You can pick up nice dresses, tops, jeans etc for a fraction. It’s been eye opening in particular how poor resale pricing is on most premium high street brands.

The only thing that annoys me is sellers who interpret “brand new without tags” to mean “I’ve worn it once/a few times and not washed it”. It stops being brand new once it’s worn!

Porridgeislife · 11/08/2023 21:10

I’ve also sold absolutely loads this year and (touch wood) it has been very easy. Far easier than eBay.

FofB · 11/08/2023 21:22

A couple of years ago, I bought a pair of slippers from TKMax. They are my absolute favourite- so comfy and warm. But they are starting to fall apart.

After several months of checking Vinted, I've finally found them in the right size. I currently have a pair of slippers with a Father Christmas on their way to me in the post. Result

OooohAhhhh · 11/08/2023 21:32

Just started selling on it, but successfully sold all 3 items so far! Quite liking how much less faff it is at listing things than eBay.

QueefofSheena · 11/08/2023 21:36

I've made loads on clothes that are now too big. I don't use boxes for clothes, I bought a load of postage bags from Amazon that work out about 5p each. I've had a couple of amazing buys too, totally hooked

sleepismyhobby · 11/08/2023 21:40

Love vinted so much i buy and sell
Loads . The things I've bought for my kids are like new and I'm pretty impressed with stuff I've bought for myself

Purpleavocado · 11/08/2023 21:48

I have cleared loads of clutter on there and also bought a lot. I resell things I don't like. The inpost lockers can be a nightmare though. I don't aim to make loads of money, but before I would have put the things into clothes banks so I look at it as a bonus. I will make a donation to the Sally Army though as I always used to use their banks if I could.

Greydogs123 · 11/08/2023 21:52

It’s brilliant. Just bought my daughter’s winter coat - John Lewis, looks in great condition, £5! Bought lots for my daughter and been very happy with it all. I also sell a lot and have been happy with that, too.

Could you link to the bags you use please?

QueefofSheena · 12/08/2023 00:45

@BreadInCaptivity search for postage bags, there are loads in all different sizes. They always have an offer on one brand so the one I used may not be the cheapest now
