I am loving vinted

Hey everyone,

What's everyone's thoughts on vinted? I am absolutely loving it so far.

The clothes I've ordered are practically brand new, amazing condition and a fraction of the price.

It seems especially good for women's and children's clothes and honestly I'm a bit obsessed and need to stop buying really but I'm nearly finished for our holiday and it's mostly been from vinted!

I also feel like I'm saving the earth GrinGrin I know I'm not really but I'm really surprised about how good it is!

Yep love it. Sell stuff on there too, so i have a balance/ float and it doesn't feel like I'm spending any money 🙌

I love the idea of it. But not being able to try on and send back, if it doesn’t suit or fit, puts me off. So I’d only buy stuff I already know suits me - eg a duplicate of something I own already, or if I’ve been able to try the same item or a new season version on new.

Just sell it!

CowboyBootsForAllOcassions · 13/08/2023 09:56

Love Vinted...! Think it's a much better platform than ebay etc and I like the idea of things being reused and reworn rather than chucked out.. had some fab bargains and found some really unique pieces too.
Not really done much of the selling but might have to give it a bash too... like the idea of having a little balance to play with!

NewUserNameSaved · 13/08/2023 15:02

The brands and sizing issue would be the same if ordering direct from the retailer though
But could be easily returned.
I’m just finding it to be quite hard work that’s all. I wasn’t specifically looking for Levi’s but as they were listed as my size I looked.
I have also seen a top I liked but when I looked closely and read the listing it says ‘easily washable mark on front’. WTH doesn’t wash an item before selling it?! The mind boggles.

Pigtailsandall · 14/08/2023 08:59

@NewUserNameSaved Yes, I had this exact issue with jeans too and it really put me off. I wear a lot of Levi's jeans, and the issue is that the waist measurement is forced to translate to a UK size. I usually wear a 32 inch waist, but depending on who lists the item, it could be a size 14, 16 or even a 12 sometimes. Then you have got to trail through the description or even the photos of the tags to find the leg length. And some sellers don't list those at all. So it's super-hard to find the right size of jeans. I wish they had better filters, particularly for the length. I get so excited to find a pair of jeans only to realise they are way too short for me

I'm pretty much sticking to kid's stuff now - DC has gotten a bundle of nearly-new leggings for a fiver, plus brand new crocs for £2.50 so I'm happy. I just withdrew the rest of my £100ish balance to stop impulse shopping, as I've almost always been disappointed with the adult items.

ChangingTheNarative · 14/08/2023 10:05

Maybe I've just been lucky everything has been really nice. I've had to wash them and iron them but there's nothing wrong with them.

To be fair though I've ordered mostly dresses and the sizing has been fine but I haven't tied jeans or pants.

OldGreyBoots · 14/08/2023 13:52

I've also just discovered Vinted and it's been a godsend - I have a wedding to go to next month, and I've managed to get shoes, bag, fascinator, and jacket for under £20 all in Grin

LadyBird1973 · 14/08/2023 15:21

I've just ordered a warehouse leather jacket for £23 inc postage. Looks a bit wrinkled on the pics but will see. I let dd sell my old stuff on there and keep the money.
Re buying new snd never wearing, I've done that loads in the past - bought shoes I think are beautiful and couldn't walk in, but couldn't bring myself to return them! As part of my wider house decluttering process, I'm letting dd sell it all on vinted. Someone else might as well enjoy them because it's wasteful just leaving them in the back of the wardrobe.

I bought a brand new handbag in a charity shop with the tags on for £30 that was £150 new. It's funny what some people will just give away.

I have finally won my challenge against a permanent ban from Vinted. Really bizarre experience.

Two reasons given - selling RL polo shirts they deemed were fake and apparently having duplicate accounts.

I was sufficiently pissed off to miraculously find the receipts from Macy's in the US in 2015 and took every photo they wanted just to prove a point. They confirmed they're genuine and they'd made a mistake but I still couldn't list them for 'internal reasons they couldn't share'. I wouldn't mind but half the RL items on Vinted are clearly fake.

Apparently they couldn't deal with both issues on one ticket so I go again on the duplicate account part of the ban. They ask for the user names, I can only give the one I know of and ask them for the second one that I must have created and forgotten about. So it goes back and forth until they say they're sorry but they'd made a mistake and I don't have a duplicate account either.

So I was permanently banned for two reasons that proved to be total bollocks. They didn't even ask for proof of the two supposedly fake polos before the ban. I've sold about a thousand items on eBay with a 100% rating and Vinted seems an odd experience in comparison.

I purchased some designer shoes from Vinted that didn't fit, tried to resell via Vinted and they rejected them as fakes 😡

Purplepeopleeaterz · 14/08/2023 16:57

Love it! I may have been lucky but everything I’ve bought has been great quality for a fraction of the price, had a few M&S bits and the rest Hobbs or LK Bennett. Also picked up a Thomas Pink shirt BNWT for £6, no way would I have paid the £125 it’s selling for.

Its important to me to stop buying fast fashion so preowned makes me happy 😊 the searches can be a pain though I agree.

TotalDramarama · 14/08/2023 17:01

Love it too! Prefer buying to selling tbh. I have bought a few bundles on there lately which has worked out so cheap.

I sold loads of barely worn or unworn, higher end items on there a while ago and made quite a bit of money, but I just found packing it all up a bit of a faff. I think bundles are the way forward.

The best things for me on there are dresses as I can wear them a bit big or a bit small and not feel uncomfortable.

I've had to delete the app recently as it was getting a bit much 😬

grownup2 · 14/08/2023 18:35

I love Vinted but the search is so basic.
I've found some lovely things by trying to be creative with search.
These are my tips. Would love to know yours.

Search for

  • little-known or defunct quality brands eg "linen press"
  • types of things people don't realise are on there eg knitting wool
  • specific high quality fabrics eg alpaca, pima
  • particular colour shades you love eg chartreuse
Perhaps it is women with appreciation of quality who are more likely to specify in these ways.

Even woollens new with tags can have moth holes seller might not have noticed. Ask seller to hold the garment up to a window and look carefully for you.

Notcontent · 14/08/2023 19:32

I love Vinted but initially had a few bad experiences - mainly items described is new or nearly new but clearly not. Also, things that did not fit. But I have learned the hard way and now I am really careful. I check reviews, as questions, stick to brands I am familiar with. I avoid really vague descriptions - “worn a few times” - what does that mean in term of the condition of the item??

LadyBird1973 · 14/08/2023 21:12

I'm gonna have to delete this app! Just bought a Phase Eight wool blazer for £30 new but without tags. I'm supposed to be decluttering, not buying more clothes!

I finding that I've been bitten by the second hand clothes bug now - having picked up a couple of really lovely things in charity shops recently, I'm finding myself reluctant to buy new. Especially from shops like H&M or New Look, where they aren't made for longevity.

Apple Pay is bloody lethal though - doesn't feel like real money!

Whattodo112222 · 14/08/2023 21:52

I've bought so many little Ted Baker and Joules dresses for my little girl x

BreadInCaptivity · 14/08/2023 23:55

Thought I'd update.

So far I've sold 6 items so pretty happy.

Think I'm getting the hang of it.

As posted previously I'm getting rid of my corporate wardrobe (career change) and a few items bought for posh events that didn't materialise.

Mostly Hobbs/Jigsaw/Mint Velvet and two pairs of Louboutins though I'm not sure how well "high end" designer shoes will sell on the platform.

Have cleared out quite a bit but more to go, but I'll see how what I've posted already does I think before posting more.

Looking at it maybe Vestiere might be better for the shoes? Vinted seems more about bagging a bargain?

Generally though I'm finding it quite cathartic so "shed" my corporate attire. It's a bit odd as I didn't wear them much (so in great condition) because office was casual clothing, but when visiting clients I had to dress up - so most things were only worn a few times.

Frankly, I'm a bit shocked looking at it in how much I spent on clothes that were worn so infrequently and (buying more) worried it wouldn't look good to wear the same dress to another meeting with the same client (I'll bet in hindsight they didn't notice what I wore).

Motorina · 15/08/2023 00:03

@BreadInCaptivity if you are a 14 can you message me a link please? I’m doing a career change in the opposite direction! Thanks.

No problem!

Most of the dresses have sold but a few left and yes size 14 (few items in 16 because they simply fitted better and I'd say were a 14).

BreadInCaptivity · 17/08/2023 23:29

Well as my Vinted experience continues a warning...

It's generally been very positive, but checking pricing on my Louboutin's I found two accounts (which I've reported) offering my shoes, with my photos for a ridiculously low price.

So I'd definitely advise some caution when buying high end item's especially. Very much so when they are a bargain.

Both the accounts had Facebook validations and had listed a few other (less valuable) items - though through search I found these were also duplicated.

There was no way I could contact the people who've added to favourites etc to warn them.

I'm assuming they sell, ship something crappy and take the fee when you collect.

So definitely get the buyers insurance when ordering high value items.

SlowlyLosing · 18/08/2023 00:24

I do prefer vinted to ebay, seems to be more on there or its just easier to find.

I only ever buy new with tags (aka wore it with the tags or managed to reattatch them) and new without tags (aka wore a few times but you can't really tell). If it was ebay lots would go back for being misdescribed but I've adjusted my expectations and budget to allow for it instead.

Just received a new with tags coat - one missing button but there is a spare (could have been bought like that), covered in cat hair with a hole in the pocket and a lighter in the lining! It is a fabulous coat though, £350 label I paid £25. Worth sending for cleaning and repair.

My worst find was a bright red broken false (I hope!) nail in the pocket of a blazer 🤢

Darklane · 18/08/2023 00:33

Must say to begin with that I’ve never used it,or even looked. But going off posts I’ve read I can understand why prople buy But after reading about people buying whole outfits for under £20 etc I can’t see why anyone would sell good quality, new or hardly worn expensive items on there? Can anyone who does sell explain why it would be a good thing? I have far too many clothes, most really good quality hardly worn & would seriously like to reduce the amount but can’t see the appeal of selling for tiny amounts things that were expensive & virtually new condition.

BreadInCaptivity · 18/08/2023 01:21

You sound like me!

I have/had a wardrobe full of expensive clothes that I was not going to wear (career change).

So what to do?

So I'm getting rid of them and it's quite cathartic.

I like the fact they are going to be worn by someone else.

They serve no purpose in my wardrobe so fling them to someone else Smile

Sweetsweetlike1111 · 18/08/2023 02:13

I love it. So many bargains considering I only BNWT. Since downloading the app, I haven't shopped for clothes anywhere else

VanCleefArpels · 18/08/2023 06:39

@Darklane i think you have to forget the original cost to you and focus on the benefit of decluttering, and the benefit you are giving someone else. What’s the point of hanging on to something you are never likely to wear again just because it once cost you a lot? Getting rid feels good, provides a bit of pocket money and gives you a nice feeling that someone else can enjoy the article of clothing in the same way you once did

grass321 · 18/08/2023 06:57

Now I'm un-banned, yesterday's discovery was that you can also sell books and DVDs on Vinted.

What I haven't discovered yet is a 'sell similar' feature on Vinted so you can copy some of the same wording from a different listing.
