Want an actual waterproof coat with a hood for muggy weather.

Have had to resort to my only truly waterproof coat today but it's too warm for this weather. I'm boiling. Is a cagoule really the only option? Are Uniqlo's jackets really not waterproof? I am trying to avoid using an umbrella as carry enough to work as it is

Being stylish would be great but I don't hold out much hope.

I have this (hopefully the link works but it's the hilltop 2 jacket) for work. It's incredibly boring but has survived Scottish summer and is pretty good, lightweight and squishes down into a bag but vaguely smart, or at least inoffensive, enough for work.

Report back on aged Uniqlo blocktech. Put it to the test, unintentionally, in Scottish downpour, and water did get through at the cuffs and top of shoulders. Not sure whether that’s because it’s old, or because it’s only marketed as ‘showerproof’!

It was great for general drizzle mind you.

Yet another vote for Protected Species.

I’m a short, dumpy, menopausal mess and it’s the only stylish thing I own. I love it. I’ve had mine 2 years, wear it most of the year and it still looks new and feels soft.

ethical, sustainable, female owned company too.

Do theee come up small large or just right? In between a 18-20 but I have big hips and wondering how it would fit

You cannot beat Rains.

I haven't scrolled through all of the posts so I don't know whether anyone else has mentioned finnisterre? Their Rainbird jacket is very lightweight and completely waterproof.

I have the Finisterre Stormbird which is even more waterproof than the Rainbird. I do love it. Great colours too. Finisterre stormbird

I'm voting for Uniqlo blocktech for occasional in town use or when you need to stuff it in a bag - its waterproof in a short downpour and really thin without all the extra pockets and zips. No bulk in it at all. Doesn't look too much like a waterproof. Maybe I like it because it the short version is just the right length for me at 5' 4.
If I'm off up a mountain or on a very long walk I'd wear something else. Not sure one coat does everything

Hoolahoophop · 29/08/2023 14:42

On the subject of coats. Has anyone ever found a petite rain coat?

Jillybloop393 · 29/08/2023 19:45

There was a similar post a couple of weeks ago, and the Tenby raincoat from Joules got highly recommended. I purchased one straight away to wear when I went to see Robbie Williams at Sandringham this last Saturday. It poured with rain when I was stuck in the traffic jam to get in, but didn't rain afterwards, so as yet the coat is untested with regards to it being waterproof. It's knee length, not lined, so suitable for summer. Not particularly elegant - but I was looking on the practical side rather than looks. Nicely made, plenty of pockets .... and it rolls up to actually fit into it's own pouch - excellent! I'll do another post when I find out how it copes in the rain!
